Does anyone know who might direct "Harry Potter And The Prisoner of Azkaban", or want to talk about anticipations of the third movie?

P.S. I'm looking forward to Film Two. I think Branagh will make a brilliant Lockhart.

The second Harry Potter book was actually my favourite, anyway - although Book 4 is very good, too ...

Azkaban is my personal favourite, and the one which ought to make the best film, IMO, because it's so tense and gripping. (Although I really like Chamber of Secrets too).

And I love Sirius Black and Remus Lupin.

I heard that the director would be a Spanish one... but I forgot the name. :D I am worried that many details will be cut in Azkaban though, based on how the Sorcerer's Stone turned out.

Yeah, that is worrisome. And POA is my favorite HP book. So I really want them to do it right.

Yeah, a spanish man that has directed something called" The little princess"

I liked GOF the best, that may be made into two movies!

You know, I think COS is going to be quite scary! I think I will have to take a teddy bear in with me!

Or a Frodoll? ;)

Compassionate blue eyes - :swoon:

;)

Why am I the only person who liked POA LEAST of the four books?

Or a Frodoll?

Okay okay! I WAS thinking Frodoll but I typed Teddy instead - you know me too well!

I didn't like POA as much as the others either.:)

I heard somewhere that it might be Steven Spielberg. Probably total speculation, but it could be interesting to have someone like him to do it.

Just had to jump in here 'cause hey I know this! The director for POA is Alfonso Cuaron. Yes he did direct a wonderful adaptation of A Little Princess a few years ago so that proves he can work with young actors. He also did Great Expectations and Y Mama Tambien which proves he can do, ahhh, interesting stuff too :D

For a list of his credits (and wow they already list POA!), go here:
Cuaron info (http://us.imdb.com/Name?Cuar%F3n,+Alfonso)

I'm both excited and a bit worried. An innovative director could bring a lot of life to these books (like Peter Jackson did so brilliantly with LOTR) but on the other hand we don't want too much innovative here, now do we?

And on a side note, I also think Kenneth Branagh will be brilliant as Lockhart. Even his few seconds in the trailer look fabulous. I can't wait.

Yes, he's definitely proved he can make, uh, teenage road movies (interpret that as you will ;)) but Azkaban will be a real challenge I think, because you've got the pressure of being as good as the previous two, and not being too dissimilar to them either, because people will have gotten used to Chris Columbus' Harry Potter, and people don't like change

Well, I'd be glad of some change - not visually, but in terms of the plot-dynamic, which I found a bit turgid. No offence meant to those who love it!

I can't define what makes a film work for me - but certain directors seem to get the soup just right - either every time they direct, or just now and then.

I don't know CC's other work - what else has he directed? And I'd be happy to be ba-zazzed by Chamber of Secrets.

When I first saw Fellowship, I felt more confused than anything - but I knew Id be able to sit through the film again.

Philospher's Stone I couldn't though, I don't think - unless it was on the TV or video at home and I was reading or something at the same time.

Comparisons are odious things, of course ... but I'm surprised there hasn't been more three-way comparison - Lord of the Rings - Harry Potter - Star Wars ...

The guy who directed A Little Princess for POA? I'm not sure what I think of that. I adored the book as a child but the film version was a bit icky and sentimental ... and annoyingly politically correct.

Still, he's a no worse choice than Chris Columbus.

POA is far and away my favourite HP.

With Chambers of Secrets a very close second, because it has such a magnificent stand-off between Voldemort and Harry at the end ... the first film's depiction of their confrontation was very disappointing and anti-climactic.

POA rocks. :) It's got Dementors, Lupin, Sirius, Hagrid's magical beasts, the Shrieking Shack, butterbeer, Hermione's little time-travelling device, the name of which escapes me, a GREAT plot ... and all that stuff about Harry's parents is very moving ...

:D Chris Columbus directed Nine Months, with Hugh Grant.

Ahhh I love Hugh Grant. :notworthy :swoon:

From IMDB:

Mexican Director Set for Third Potter Movie

Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón (Y Tu Mama También, Great Expectations, A Little Princess) has been selected to direct the third Harry Potter movie, The Prisoner of Azkaban, scheduled for release in 2004, taking over the helm from Chris Columbus, who directed the first two Potter movies. Columbus will remain as a producer of the third film. (In producer Art Linson's tell-all book about the movie business, What Just Happened?, he devotes a chapter to Cuarón's "lavish direction" of Great Expectations, which he says caused endless delays, 19 script revisions, and huge budget overruns.)

Hmmm...This could be cool!!! Having a Spanish director direct a well known English novel...*counts days till possible release of Movie 3* Plus, PoA was my favorite book of all of them, so I can't wait to see it on the screen!!! :)

Surprisingly, Book 1 was my least favorite. After reading GoF, PoF, etc, when I went back to read that it was so......Juvenile....O_o
