Here's an oldie but a goodie... :)

I'll go first. My favorite is POA, hands down. :D I love Sirius and Lupin and all the mystery and finding out about Harry's dad.

Same here! Finding out about the marauders was the best! And the shrieking shack scene was INTENSE.

I think GoF comes close, though....

Draco Malfoy, the Amazing Bouncing Ferret....

GOF was so intense..........and the longest!:D

I was sooo shocked when CD died I was bawling! Voldemorts baddness is very frightening in this book and I just feel totally for Harry.

POA for the reasons stated by Kristin and Fleur. This was the book that really got me into the Harry Potter series

I can't decide between POA and GOF! I like them both the same.

PoA is undoubtedly my favourite. I think I too like it so much because I really love Lupin and Sirius and the plot is really interesting (basically the same reasons as Fleur, Kristin and Swen)

Another here who has a hard time deciding between PoA and GoF. PoA I think is just a wee bit higher on my list, but GoF gets so exciting at the end (grumble grumble... or could be, if we ever found out what happens next...)

I voted Prizoner of Azkaban. Somehow the mood of that book fits me. And I liked Lupin :D

PoA, because, like Swen, it's what got me hooked. It was the first book I could barely put down.

But GoF is SOOO incredibly close it can hardly count. :swoon:

I do not know why. Probably to me the theme with relations between Ginny and is simply interesting to Harry

It has to be Philosopher`s stone.:)

GoF for me, followed closely by PoA by the way.

EDIT:

Ooops. Sorry. I should have posted a spoiler warning for PoA.

AZKABAN SPOILER AHEAD

One of the things I disliked intensely about PoA was the Scabbers thing. Of all the places to hide in the world, going to Hogwarts with a boy likely to get sorted into Gryffindor was a bit too much for me. It sounded far too contrived a way to prove Sirius innocence... but then I'm probably nit-picking.

Prisoner of Azkaban is definitely my favorite....followed closely by GoF...although, I do like all of them immensly...:)

FYI: spoilers for those who haven't finished all the books yet....

There's probably a plot point about that somewhere along the line...it seems like just about every major thing that happens in the books has some reason behind it...

Someone in another thread said that it was to be best placed to hear news.........although an owl would have been better IMO.

GoF. It was the Longest, and I found it to be the thickest, in terms of the plot, although PoA was as well. I love them all however, making this a rather hard decision.

Had to go with GoF.

It had the best ending, by which i mean, all the other books wrapped up the story nicely with a happy ending. But, in GoF, everyone is standing on the brink of all hell breaking loose.

I love a cliffhanger and things are about to get nuts for Harry and the gang.

And with this long of a wait, Book Five better be, like....3,000 pages!!!!! Might be hard to transfer into a movie, but I don't care!!!!

it was really between PoA and GoF, but in the end i had to vote for GoF, only because of the character developments between Harry, Ron, and Hermione and because of the cliffhanger......

but if the poll only went up to PoA, then of course i'd've pick this one! i loved reading about Mssrs. Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs!

I think one of the reasons I liked PoA better is because it felt less rushed than GoF. Don't get me wrong, GoF WAS brilliant, but there were sooo many different things going on - so many sub plots to keep up with etc etc. I liked that, but then again I liked the way PoA felt more finshed and kind of - loved or something, like JK put 3 times as much effort in to getting it perfect, not long. Hopefully that's what OotP will be like.

I think it was they way I could warm to the newer characters in PoA far more that makes it better for me. I just don't get that from GoF, everyone seems far more distant.

I agree with Fleur, GoF felt far more rushed and I think that there was increasing pressure on JKR to get the book out, meaning she needed to get the book finished in less time than maybe she would've liked.

However, it could also be down to the fact that the book's a turning point, which means that it needed to be quite a big story, with lots of little sub-plots and details. I think the fact that OotP is far more of a continuation of GoF and JKR's taken far longer to write it, will probably make it a far better book, without such a feeling that it's been rushed.

I hadn't thought about that before, but you're right! :)

Lupin and Sirius immediately became two of my favorite characters. :) :swoon:

Ok, so here's my problem.

I like PoA more than GoF, and GoF more than PoA.

They're both such EXCELLENT BOOKS, and there are certain ascepts of each that are just WONDERFUL.

:swoon: :swoon: :swoon: :swoon:

Ok, I've been rereading them the past 3 or 4 days. And I am IN LOVE with these books.

I have no idea how on earth OotP can possibly be better.

PoA is great because it's still got a kid feel, and Snape. :swoon:
Favorite scenes:
"Miss Granger, you are already facing suspension from this school," Snape spat. "You, Potter, and Weasley are out-of-bounds, in the company of a convicted murderer and a werewolf. For once in your life, hold your tongue."

"But if -- if there was a mistake --"

"KEEP QUIET, YOU STUPID GIRL!" Snape shouted, looking suddenly quite deranged. "DON'T TALK ABOUT WHAT YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!"

... But there was a mad glint in Snape's eyes that Harry had never seen before. He seemed beyond reason.

..."YOU'RE PATHETIC! Harry yelled. "JUST BECAUSE THEY MADE A FOOL OF YOU AT SCHOOL YOU WON'T EVEN LISTEN --"

"SILENCE! I WILL NOT BE SPOKEN TO LIKE THAT!" Snape shrieked, looking madder than ever. "Like father, like son, Potter! I have just saved your neck; you should be thanking me on bended knee! You would have been well served if he'd killed you! You'd have died like your father, too arrogant to believe you might be mistaken in Black -- now get out of the way, or I will make you. GET OUT OF THE WAY, POTTER!"

Earlier:
"What would your head have been doing in Hogsmeade, Potter?" said Snape softly. "You head is not allowed in Hogsmeade. No part of your body has permission to be in Hogsmeade."

Not to mention all the vampire references, which I won't get into here. ;)

But GoF.. it's raw. It's edgy. There are 500 things happening at once, just like real life. Any fewer subplots would've been an insult to our intelligence. Gone are the comfortable days at Hogwarts, where your biggest worry was the History test coming up. Gone are the days where Harry and company always figure it out in the end. Even in GoF, Sirius Black is dead wrong. By the end of the book, I'm fighting with myself, half feeling sorry for Harry and half knowing I shouldn't. But his strength, his character, seeing a fellow student get killed by the same curse that killed his parents. Being subject to the Cruciatus Curse.. It all impresses me terribly. When Harry nears the first task, I get nervous WITH HIM. And I feel the creepy shadows lingering over him in the maze, I sense the eerie quiet as he works his way through it.

But, in GoF, everyone is standing on the brink of all hell breaking loose.

Cliffhanger to the nth degree.

Despite all Harry's circumstances, despite his life thus far, GoF is the first time I feel like I can relate. I'm still not sure WHY i can relate, but I can. I feel miserable for him, and when he starts to cry at the end, I want to cry FOR him. I swear, if whoever plays Harry in this movie screws the end up, I will personally hunt him down and STRANGLE him.

I adore Sirius and Snape's second meeting, the insense loathing between them, and their forced handshake.

I love the masked death eaters... I love how Harry can now face Draco KNOWING. Knowing 100% what his father has done.

And I love the lifting of the mysteries between Harry and Snape. I know Snape has a hundred more secrets up his cape (er... sleeve ;)) but the HONESTY that's developing. When Snape realizes that Harry knows he used to be a death eater.. I can't wait to see that on screen. That man is so complex.. he has such HISTORY. I'd bet anything that he was the spy that found out the Potters were Voldie's next victims. But now, Snape is in danger. "One, who I believe has left me forever ... he will be killed, of course..." - Voldie.

I love how Neville is taught by the very man that caused his parents to go insane, and he doesn't even know it. I've never really liked Neville, but him developing a couple dimensions helps immensely.

*Sigh* This is longer than I originally intended.

Jo's gonna have a hard time topping these two books.

It's got to be PoA. The scene in the Shreiking Shack is great, Snape's on great form and has some great lines, Sirius and Remus are brilliant, the plot twist is the best one so far, the bit with the patronus makes me cry every time...
