Thankyee very much! Hey does anyone know when we can shed our selves of these demeaning 'junior member' titles?

I know. It's not fair, we've been here two years...

My mother has just spent 2hours on the phone to my aunt in Ireland. That's why I vanished from msn btw

After a day you can get a custom title.

I'm going to miss my old title -- Grammar Avenger, Auror Extraordinaire and Parrot of the Angband Pirates (Arrrr!)

It's too long. :(

But I feel worse for the people who can't get their original user-names back.

Hey, maybe Ravenclaw house can be the first to 500 posts (like it was the first time around).

Kristin sets to work rebuilding the roller coaster. :)

Hi, I don't think I've ever posted in here before, and seeing as I only ever seemed to post in Hufflepuff, I thought I'd see what the other houses are like.

Remus takes a cookie

Mmm. :D

Our thread house talking, well singing...

You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you girl,
We couldn't get much higher

Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire

The time to hesitate is through
There's no time to wallow in the mire
If I was to say to you
That our love becomes a funeral pyre

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah

Light my fire
Light my fire yeah yeah

The time to hesitate is through
There's no time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre

Come on baby light my fire
Come on baby light, light my fire
Light my fire, Light my fire, light my fire,

Light, light, light, light, light, girl, girl, girl

All you've got to do is light my fire
Light my fire girl, yeah, yeah

Only fire song I could find! :D

Remus, maybe those cookies may enchant you to chngeinto a Ravenclaw!

APPLE PIE! :D Freshly made, Grandmother style! :)

Cedric

Bbwwaaahahahahah!! She's ours for life!! AhAaaahhahaha!

Too much?

Remember, it's not a race, whoever posts 500 first posts 500 first, it really doesn't matter who it is unless it's Slytherin....

:D

-Cedric

Fleurdelacour
09-07-2002, 06:29 PM
Not a race? My dear Ced, it's a race indeed!

It's the London Maraton, and we're the Paula McCarthys! And you (lot) are the bloke in the deep sea diving suit that finished last! ;)

Why are the Hufflepuffs so popular? We're witty and god, I've forgotten....

lol, I make sense.

Kristin
09-08-2002, 01:21 AM
It's not a race.

The race was already run -- and won. Ravenclaw was the first house to ever reach 500 posts. It's not our fault we lost everything. As far as I'm concerned, Ravenclaw's record (and superiority) still stands. :D ;)

Kristin helps herself to cookies and butterbeer. :)

Anarie

Cedric is here!!! :D

just wanted to show how happy I am...

Cedric
09-08-2002, 03:19 PM
Gives Anarie a big hug!!

Well I'm happy too :)

That's a very good point Kristin, the record's still there, wether we can see it or not. So whoever gets it this times isn't really getting anything, it's just like we're adding on to the other house posts we had.

-Cedric

Fleurdelacour
09-08-2002, 05:40 PM
C'om peoples! Be fun! lol, maybe I belong in Slytherin!

;)

School tomorrow. I'm being made to pick up rubbish on the streets of Greenwich because the bus company broke down and only run every 45 mins so I was late for school on my second day. Now I have to pick up filthy rubbish until the black bags are filled. All this after school. It's illegal in Britian to keep us after school for more then 7 mins. I HATE MY HEADTEACHER!

Cedric
09-08-2002, 06:19 PM
Ced sneaks up behind Fleur, and gives her a super tight hug!!

Lol! No! Don't do anything rash like that! You'd never forget yourself :D

With a flick of his wand a giant banner appears that says "fun central", then "celebrate good times" starts playing

No downers aloud in here, got it? ;)

I'm a pessimist! I can never think happy! :( War's immenant, and I'm feeling really down right now :(

Well, I'll try to be happy! I'm going to a concert on Sunday! It's on telly too!

Remus
09-09-2002, 03:51 PM
Cool.

My pescimism (and moaning) has also kicked right back into action since the new school year started, I think it must just be something to do with having to get up early and actually work every day.

My headteacher's insane and keeps telling us "the sheepdog is coming" (to seperate us from the pack). I haven't a clue what he's on about

Fleurdelacour

Wooohooo! I don't have to go to school anymore!!! And uni is much much better than school, especially when it starts in november ! :p :)

Fleurdelacour
09-09-2002, 04:30 PM
I can't wait until Uni and College (this time next year... christ..)

We should get treated like human beings there, right Anarie?  :o

Anarie
09-09-2002, 04:41 PM
Comparing to school, Uni is paradise!

You have no homework, you don't have to be present at all the lessons/lectures, no one telling you how and what to wear, you build your lessons schedule (?) by yourself, and the most important thing you choose what you want to learn (no more history lessons horror! no more sports lessons torture! no more many other @#*%! ) :D

Fleurdelacour
09-09-2002, 05:47 PM
Sounds like heaven! :D (shame about those Studen Loan things, I'll go to Uni in London and stay with my parents haha)

Speaking of history, got it tomorrow morning...

I hate sports, it's pointless, takes up my time when I could be doing my late 19th Centrury Parisain fashion and culture project for art!

RE, I think is pointless, because we have more RE lessons then art! My beloved art and design lessons!

:jawdrop:

I've got three years. Three years ago I was in year Eight the year where you do nothing. I had not a care in the world, I was thirteen/twelve, that age...

Religious Education. It was okay in Primary School, but it'll be a year on Wednesday since I stopped believing in God :(

Anarie
09-10-2002, 04:11 AM
We have it too, in our schools. Not exectly religious education, I mean no one's doing religious brainwashings (unless if it's religious school), but there are bible lessons, we learn how to read it and different interpretations of it, that's how I learned to understand ancient hebrew and arameic. I liked those lessons, but most of people usually hate it.

TChaaa! Whatever! Hufflepuff totally rule. In the new old MI Hufflepuff was leading by about 500 except the Slytherins but they don't count because their posts consist of an average of 10 words. But actually, I don't really mind, because Ravenclaw House is a cool place to hang out too! Before I had a house, I was more Ravenclaw than Hufflepuff.

Why can't we all just get along? ;)

hahahahaha. WHAT ever.

My pescimism (and moaning) has also kicked right back into action since the new school year started, I think it must just be something to do with having to get up early and actually work every day.

You're telling me? You are the most pessimistic person I know. Infact I think you delight in pointing out averything wrong with the world.. ;)

The Sheepdog is a metaphorical (we hope) dog that 'separates' us from our friends in the form of GCSE tests. See, we are on our own in the tests. We have to 'grow up' or something.

WOOF!

We're brainwashed. I go to a convent school... We're only taught about one religon  How does that work in a multicultural society, espech when I live in London...

Your lessons sound interesting. I swear if I have to read one more passage from marks gospel. I'll explode!

I would just like to say I do not ! There just happens to be a lot in the world that I find I need to moan about (and I am far from pescimistic most of the time)

RS at my school's pretty rubbish, but Philosophy's pretty cool, we actually get a chance to question religion (well, sometimes)

Happy Birthday Kristin! *hugs!*

Our school is hopeless, and made so soo bloody amd today!

After lunch, we had Maths, we out evil selfish headmistress, and we went in, and she said to prey for Denise because she's feeling ill... I think she failed to reilise that it was 1.45 pm and in one minute we should be paying our respects to the victims of 9/11... Then I got told off for not answering her during my two minute silence at 1.46pm...  :(

Today's been such a crap day, adn the woman opposite me on the bus insisted on smothering her newspaper in my face. Some people just have no respect, whatsoever...

It infuriated me that our school did not observe the 1 46 1 minutes silence. I had to listen to my PSE teacher droan on.

I couldn't live without the Laines. They have the coolest shops ever, most of them one offs or small brighton based chains.

Like, Hocus Pocus! wow whatta great shop. And I get a lot of clothes from Greenwich Village and retro shops.. but one high street dhip I have to admit I would find it hard without is Hennes! I love it! So cool, so cheap!

Remus
09-30-2002, 04:39 PM
Ditto. Without the Laines I don't know where I'd be !

I'm just annoyed because now loads of the shops that used to be cool have turned all weird (and not particularly nice) as a really horrible chain store takes them over ! But there are loads of other shops left that are great (plus there is, as Fleur said, always Hennes).

Fleurdelacour
09-30-2002, 05:19 PM
Oh! If you ever go to Covent Garden you two, go to Blackout II in Covent Garden it's a really cool vintage shop that does all cool glamorus stuff from the 1920s to the 1990s!

RAVENCLAW

Huggs and Butterbeer galore!

Cheers! And a Merry Christmas. And watch out for those reindeer crossings, they're nasty. And beware of UFRS (Unidentified Flying Red Sleighs). And don't forget to ask about the wife when you give Santa your Christmas list. And make sure NOT to tug on his beard; it IS real. And--

Are we having a battle of the houses???

I will admit, we are having one interesting discussion over there. And here I was, thinking Ravenclaw was the smarter house.

However, I will have to say (seeing as I am in the comfort of my own house) that I have to agree with these fine (or finest) people here. Nandor Nymph, MysticMariel and everyone. Ravenclaw is the, ahem, better house (and person, for that matter ;)).

Of course, you know I would never say this anywhere but here, me being the diplomat that I am.

Elfëa

Ravenclaw is interesting house... not to mention ppl in it are smart... but they're usually the loved ones - JRK hasn't really mentioned anyone from Ravenclaw unless they're someone's crush, date or bf/gf...

:) I'd probably be a Ravenclaw - go unnoticed through the series... ;)

But I won't comment which house I'd want to be in. ;)

I PRACTICALLY live in London. We go there at least twice a year...

OK, so i don't live there, but hey! It's hard to travel from over here, especially when the stupid airlines don't have any competition so they think they can do anything they want... Lousy Egypt Air. The flight was delayed from six to ten PM, the service was terrible, AND my mum lost her luggage ON THE SAME FLIGHT! And when they found her bag again, they refused to deliver. And we didn't even have a car, how were we supposed to pick it up???

I hate the stupid way they run this place. Everyone's so lazy!

Forgot about us, Fleur? How could you forget???

Oh another question, is most everyone here from the UK?
Ooops, I knew I forgot something...

I'm not from UK, except for the fact I'm supposed to live there for next three years... well, most of the year :)
I'm from Finland ans I study in a university in Northern Wales :) Been there for 4 months, right now on holidays visit family in Finland :D
Going back soon... can't wait... back to the floods :p Well, at least it's away from the cold! - it's -30 C here now!

Well I am from Canada! Good ol' windy prairies in the middle of Canada. It's usually about -30C here too in the winter but so far this winter it's been rather warm.

I've heard of all the floods!! Crazy stuff, floods aren't fun. We've had major floods here too.

Ravenclaw is without a doubt my favourtie house. I just wish Rowling would write more about it!!!! And mention the Grey Lady a little more than once.

I was reading previous stuff about how dreary and horrible school is. I agree!! In a few days my winter holiday will be over :(

Must spend as much time as possible doing fun stuff!

Thanx for the welcome :)

Hey, Elfëa, call me dense, but I didn't know you were from Finland! lol!

Yeah, another TCK! I knew a girl and her brother from Finland. They were really nice. Names were Salla and Sampo. I think that's how you spell his name... I didn't know him that well. Met them in Belgium. It was colder there than it is here, but probably not as cold as what you Finish and Canadian and Russian people are used to. Actually, most DEFINATELY not that cold.

I desperately need snow. Who ever heard of a dust storm on Christmas day? :(

Of course those in Australia know warm Decembers all the time, don't you guys?

Elfëa
01-03-2003, 05:19 AM
Salla and Sampo? wow... Sampo is rather old "fashioned" name - it's from Kalevala! :D Salla is not so common girl's name, but I like it :p
Personally I wouldn't name anyone Sampo cause it's a name of a bank and was a machine of endless richess in Kalevala...

-30 is not usual in the part of Finland I live in... I can't remember when it's been this cold!

I hope my town hasn't got the floods... But I doupt - I haven't seen any bigger rivers near there... :p

Is it still flooding badly in the UK?

Fleurdelacour

Silly virusus, they're evil things...

Methinks is time to revive this old thread.........

Bah, let's see if I can come up with anything G-Rated (argh...) to talk about....

I was TRYING to get to "This is our Youth" two days ago in Picadilly, but those silly protesters made it sooooo difficult. And the busses only went to Oxford Street so we had to walk in the cold and I was freezing cause I live in friggin Egypt and I forgot that it's cold in the rest of the world.

Me and my older friend Hilary were following this group with signs and stuff, and it almost looked like we were a part of it.

By the time the play was over, though, and we had gotten Freddie Prinze Jr's autograph, they had gone (we saw the matinee).

Is anyone else in warmer places than the states LONGING to be stuck in the blizard on the East Coast?

Why don't blizzards ever close schools in Finland?

Remus
02-18-2003, 03:51 AM
It would take something to knock the entire school down before my head teacher would close the school. He only closed the school earlier this term for a couple of days because the temperature was so low inside that it was illegal to keep us all in school. So I very much doubt blizzards would stop him keeping the school open (as per usual  )

Elfëa
02-18-2003, 09:10 AM
Blizzards don't close schools in Finland - but they might prevent some people getting to school if the busses don't run :p But most kids live on walking distance from their primary school...

Is it cold there somewhere south? It's totally sunny and snowless here in North Wales :D Well, we do have minus degrees at night...

Ravenclaw
02-18-2003, 02:14 PM
:( I know blizards are classified as 'disasters,' desturbing people's everyday lives, a tow-trucks Christmas Bonus, closing down businesses and educational offices, not to mention how difficult it is to stay warm... And of course, there is the occasional loss of life due to icey roads and avalanches and what not...

But I just can't STAND knowing that in places only a few latitude lines above me are getting like five feet of snow a week! You want to know what I see in March? Sand. Lots and lots of sand.

It's actually kind of funny, though. Here I am, longing to be in New York or Maryland or DC or Jersey, or heck, even Main, just to be barricaded in my house, away from school, watching the snow fall by a fire and watching It's A Wonderful Life with my Dominoes Pizza I had to trudge in the snow to pick up cause they don't deliver in this weather... wow... runon sentence...

And yet, there are people who are on the East Coast that tell me "Wow, you get sand storms? That must be AWESOME! Way cooler than all this SNOW! I mean, you get piles of SAND at your doorstep!" Let me tell you this. Sand does not pack as easily as snow, so when you make a 'sandball' it scatters as soon as you throw it. Secondly, it's also really hard to shovel out of your living room. Thirdly, living in Egypt, with the polution and the sandstorms, is like smoking two packs of cigarettes a day and my lungs don't like that. AND you can't see a bloody thing that's two inches in front of your nose! Cough cough cough is all you do. :(. I ate my sandwitch outside in a light Khamsin (sandstorm) and got sand all over it. It smells like crazy. Practically the only cool thing about it is the sky turns orange. And you rarely get school off cause of it either, unless it's really bad.

I want snow so badly it's not funny. Got to London last Friday, friends said they had more snow than usual that Wednessday, but it had melted. They said the same thing when I got to Brussles. It really really sucked. In Europe for a week didn't see one snow flake. Bah. I think I'm cursed.

Fleurdelacour
02-18-2003, 04:09 PM
It's snowyish in Scotland... It's always snowy there...

It's been frezzing down here but sunny too Elfea... Not that I've left the house since Friday (lazy, moi?) I couldn't even be bothered to get my bible, heat magazine today.

Time for another change of subject.

I have a question:

You know this smilie:

Is that, by chance, promoting alcoholism?

And this one: :barf:

Is this not a tad disgusting?

And this smilie:

Could this, perhaps promote devil worship?

And of course, the age-old debate: :trout:

Could this be considered an act of violence, especially for the poor trouts involved???

I, of the BFC Organization (Better Future for our CHildren) suggest these horrible, terrible expressions of emotions be CENSORED.

We of the BFC are also opposed to:

Other religions that are not Christian
People/actions/things different from what we consider normal
Individuality
Freedom of Speach
Encoraging Creativity
Expression of any kind
The arts (includes music, drama, painting, writing, reading, etc.)

Note: The policies of the BFC do not in anyway imply world domination nor suppression of one's own rights and no one should ever think that that is our intentions. We at the BFC believe that people are entitled to their own opinions and thoughts, just opposed to sharing those ideas/thoughts/opinions with other people in any shape, way or form. Thank you for your time.

Hahaha. Bored? No, just angry.

There's this group at this church here in Cairo called "Better Future for our Children" that's ticking me off. They want the world to be exactly how they think it should be: Everyone is a clone of everyon else and no one is allowed to have their own opinion.

They censor everything in sight. Even spray paint on the sides of buildings because they think it "spoils the minds of children with Satan's lies!" God, they're just a bunch of hypocritical snobs if you ask me.

Good thing they don't have any real power, otherwise they could get together with some neo-nazis! AH!

They're scary. ANd you think living in a third world country like this would give them a wider mind instead of a narrower one.

Hey, Fleur, that depends on if you shed all responsibilites, stay home from work/school and do nothing BUT read.

I read the whole trilogy in 4 weeks. Missed class, skipped homework, got in trouble with teachers and parents.....Now, I'm NOT advocating that, mind you!

And that was fift, er, um, twen, er......SOME years ago.

I read the GoF in about 8 hours... or less. Annoyed the boss, used up sick time.....did I say the word responsible?

OoTP? I'll read it in a day! But then I'm a fast reader, and for some reason that makes me an incredibly bad speller! So there's a trade off. Well, we have about 6 weeks to compare reading notes! ;)

Fleurdelacour

now my prescious copy is in the hands of Ms Warond (more like walrus) ten miles away in a science lab drawer...

Xaz scowls, sitting on the cold floor outside the entrance to the Ravenclaw common room, listening to the crickets chirping in in the cool night air.

X: "Wow, this is hard... think Xaz, think!"

Xaz assumes a look of concentration and thinks hard. Suddenly, he blinks, grins and jumps up.

X: "Aha! I know! Quoth the Raven.. Nevermore!"

On the word 'Nevermore', the door to the Ravenclaw common room slowly swings open. Xaz looks at it in astonishment and almost falls over.

X: "That was it? Really? I was only kidding! Oh well!"

Xaz hurriedly steps inside the Ravenclaw common room, and gazes around with a contented sigh at the comfy looking armchairs in front of the fire and the friendly atmosphere ofthe room. A Ravenclaw student walking by looks at him curiously and waves at him. Xaz grins and waves back. As he is looking around, a girl comes up to him and holds out her hand.

Girl: "Hi, you must be new! I'm Padma Patil, Ravenclaw prefect. I'll get Anthony Goldstein, the male prefect, to show you to a room so you can settle in."

Padma gestures to Anthony, who shakes Xaz's hand and grins at him.

A: "Hi! Xazinon, right? Welcome to Ravenclaw House!"

X: "Er, thanks. Um, how do you know my name? And, if you knew I was coming, why didn't you let me on the door? I was out there for hours!"

Anthony just grins at him and, opening a door ahead of him, gestures Xaz inside. He points him to an unoccupied bed.

A: "Here you go, you can sleep here. Make yourself at home... your roommates will be along eventually, I'm sure."

Xaz looks around at the room, taking in the decor. Piles of books are strewn around the room, along with various suitcases and the like. He watches Quidditch players zoom past on the Tornados poster adorning the wall above his neighbour's bed with a smile. Xaz drops his suitcase down hext to the bed and throws himself onto the bed.

X: "Ooh, nice.. it has all the comfort and support I need and deserve. Still, this place needs something..."

With a grin, Xaz delves into his suitcase and pulls out a poster of his own. He tacks it onto the wall above his bed and stands back to admire his handiwork.

X: "Quidditch may be good, but gimme AFL any day! Go the Bombers! Nothing wrong with Muggle sports, I say!"

Xaz grins at his stationary Muggle poster and lies back on his bed with a happy sigh.

Oh dear... Sorry Xaz, the Agency... Ah, well I haven't been in the right state of mind since the 21st, I've completly lost it... And now I'm off on holiday tomorrow....

But yes, anyhoo!

Welcome Ollie! You have good taste already! :D

Fleurd pulls out some Honeydukes chocolate and shares it with the others before departing

Well, I'm off to Jersey for a week, then a weekend in Devon (hoping to find me a Ottery St Catchpole!)

Au Revoir! :D

Xaz grins and clinks glasses with Ollie and Elfea.

Glad you could all stay: it's almost like a real party now! ;)

Aww, don't worry about the Detective Agency FleurD, I was only teasing: if people want to participate in it, well and good, but there's no point in guilting people into posting. Supposed to be fun, after all! :)

Have a good holiday, FleurD: don't know what a Ottery St Catchpole is, but hope you find one! :D

Sure, drop by the agency, Elfea! I'm sure your presence would be more than welcome! Sweet of you to put me in your signature by the way! :D

Booooo! Hissssss!

Yeah yeah, you gave us a bit of a hiding, didn't you? :(

I think we were in trouble from the very start: a) not in Melbourne b) raining c) raining and no Jason Johnson d) oh yeah.. Adelaide are pretty good, too ;)

Good thing James Hird was playing or it could have been awful! *sigh*

Xaz peers over the Adelaide poster with a thoughtful, rather than angry look.

Still, this isn't all bad.. gives me a chance to test out my darts set! :D

Were you one of the ones booing the goalpost, Amb?

I did not have tickets so was watching on tv

I think we can win even without Carey so I was not that upset (did wince when it happened as it must have hurt - lots)

Xaz, Iwould have thought you'd have known what Ottery St.Catchpole is! It's where the Weasleys live! :D (obbsessed, moi?)

Here I am, in Jersey, at Jersey Goldsmiths... My back is burnt. It's raw red, blistered a bit, and I cant lie back and read.... Grrrr....

This is the nearest I have got to the Internet since I left, and it's hell...TAKE ME HOME! Family arguments, galore! Fun... Oh Jersey is in a drought right now... No rain for weeks, although it was actually raining this morning, the Islanders looked as if Christmas came early!

I found my Lupins! Y'know the flowers, I've been searching for them, everywhere, and found them outside a Nazi Underground Hospital.... Oh see, the Channel Islands were occupiedby the Nazis... Bloody Nazis.... History exam on the Nazis, now this I cannot escape!!:p

Nice to see all these closed threads....

Fleur sticks her Chelsea FC Football poster over the other one

Xazinon
07-15-2003, 11:20 PM
It was a bit nasty, Amb: you sohlud get round goalposts like the proper footy grounds have. ;)

Xaz slaps his hand against his head and groans.
D'oh! Well, I feel stupid now, heh! I knew it sounded familiar, but I couldn't quite place it. Must be the butterbeer talking! So have you managed to find your Ottery St Catchpole, FleurD? :) Sorry your holiday isn't going so well!

Xaz starts to nod off in front of the fire in the Ravenclaw common room, butterbeer in hand, wondering idly as he starts to fall asleep whether he should be concerned at the constant stream of people entering his room and pasting over his poster.

Hmm... nah. :D

We didnt go to Devon after all, so I haven't found my Ottery St Catchpole, but I looked on a map and found Ottery St Mary! If that's anything...

But I'm back! no more countryside!!! :D

After it rained, it carried on raining.... and we had to endure Nazi musumes all week... But home! look buildings! tall buildings! cars! no rain! dead grass...

the grass and lilies in the garden, are dead...

Fleur finds a sofa and falls asleep on her front not touching her sunburnt back

Good double coated, chicken flavored, greasy as heck, gravy! She has returned!

Ced gives double A a big hug to welcome here back

So, what have you been up to? :D

You know, I gotta say FleurD, I didn't know what you were talking about at first either... Maybe it's just the fact that you live somewhere near the place, so it's easier to remember, for the mere chance that you might visit it...

Oh, and when did this discussion get to Xaz's bed??? I remember one minute we were in the common room, then next, BAM! Oh well....

Ced walks over to the growing number of posters on the wall...

Well, since I have no idea what these teams are, I'll just add my own touch...

He plunges his hand into his pocket and pulls out a big, rolled up poster of "courage the cowardly dog" and staples it on.... With that he turns around with a wink on his face and his right thumb raised to the heavens...

Courage the cowardly dog... rings a belll for some reason...

Well, I don't live anywhere near it, its in the south of England, but that's it, it's in the West Country where people have Hagrid accents... But I live kinda inbetween Wimbledon and Elephant and Castle, where the dodgy toilets in Ootp were which is quite cool, I squeaked as I read :p :o

Fleur walks over to the poster and sticks a DOWN WITH TIMBERLAKE poster over it

sick to death of him... my sister has a worrying obsession with him....

Well, discussions sway a lot from time to time... One second we're in a comming room and we're all in a bed! hey i aint complaining!

Diamondbacks... sounds like a type of shoe... ok must get over the shoe obsession... not helping as the last series of sex and the city is about to start over here.... :o

Phoenix Suns... Went to see one of their games while I was visiting my grandparents down there... It was a total slaughter, the suns won by at least ten points.

Ten quid? Nah, just Wayne Bridge! thought you can give us Wayne Bridge AND ten quid for Graham Le Saux if you want.. I'll go buy some candy or something. ;)

Big Courage fan eh Cedric? It's an okay show, but a bit weird: I can't really get into it, I gotta say. I am a big fan of Cartoon Network though... I watch many of their fine programs. :D

Fleurdelacour
07-25-2003, 11:04 AM
Sure buy Candy, there was a nasty little Malfoy type of a girl in my old class called Candy, buy her all you want! She thought I was some sort of weirdo... She was right a bit I guess, but there was no need to say it, rentlessly in all my beloved English lessons...

Ooh Cartoon Network! That's where I reconise Courage from! We used to have that... Until the digital tv company we got it from went bust... We have Freeview now, and it's crap... My little brother still pines for it, he visits their website in hope that maybe onday, we'll have digital satellite installed...

It's done more then re-wired my mind!

Xaz, expect a visit from my Grandparents in the near future, they're being unleashed on Australia this autumn! And they dont know it! It's a suprise... For their 40th wedding anniversairy... big party this weekend and a day out in the London Eye... should be fun.. relations from as far as Scotland, Birmingam, and Ireland are coming, with their devilish kids which I have to babysit... Help...

Cedric
07-25-2003, 02:01 PM
Lol Fleur... I'd help if I could :D

I'm a big cartoon fan period... It's what I watch probably 80% of the time I watch T.V.... It's pretty helpful to my own drawings, because I can see good ways of pulling things off on paper, like a way of drawing and arm at an angle or something.

I'd have to say that one of the best is Fairly odd Parents... Love that show :)

-Cedric

Fleurdelacour
07-25-2003, 03:53 PM
We get Fairly Odd Parents on the bbc! :D I like that show, the fifties style animation :)

They're here... Well two of them, the ones from Ireland. the Blonde Demons. The nine year old was standing in the doorway from my brother's room wearing an Irish footie teeshirt. It was dark upstairs because the bulb blew, but he looked evil... They're outside now, climbing the apple tree... It's only small... they'll break it!! They cackle relentlessly... Jesus....

edit:

Oh god... they're worse then I could ever imagine!!! they've taken the biscuits, and poured water over my copy of GoF... They're running in front of the telly, blocking it... I WANT TO WATCH TELLY! Oh god... imagine if it was next friday... then I'd be missing Sex and the City... They're evil.... EVIL!!!

Cedric
07-25-2003, 10:37 PM
I'm sorry Fleur :( My brother spilled a little coke on my OotP... And I'm still mad about it... But that's MUCH worse.

Hang in there ;)

Er, no, you can have that Candy: doesn't sound like much fun! Hehe, Malfoy type of girl: what an interesting new way to describe people! :)

Your grandparents eh? They going all round Australia or just to the main touristy places like Sydney, maybe Uluru, that kind of thing? I'll make sure I wave to them, okay? ;)

Yeah, I watch Cartoon Network all the time, though I've never heard of that Fairly Odd Parents show! I was watching Space Ghost Coast to Coast last night, that's gotta be one of my favourites, though I do like most of their stuff: you're never too old to be entertained! ;) :D

I think they're asleep... Now... I put on Philosopher's stone for them... and I started to cry during the Mirror of Erised bit - I am hopeless...

There's also, Umbridge kinda teacher! had a few of them whilst in secondary school... *shudder*

Spilt coke on your copy of OotP.... Oh, I'd kill him! That's unforgivable! I think my copy of GoF and PoA are the scruffiest books I own, even my copy of Ootp is looking a bit forlorn.. There's a scratch over the phoenix, and the cover is coming off a bit, that's because I threw it... After the death...

I have no idea what they'll do, probaly everything... They like culture (well... that depends... on some things...) they should know that they're going to Australia as the suprise party is on now, whilst I'm stuck here... at home with nothing but depressing Harry Potter books and films, as well as a Thesaurus and laptop to keep me company... *sigh*

Cedric
07-26-2003, 10:28 PM
It wasn't a huge spot, just a little drop, but I tried to rub it out which made the cover kinda flake off in a tiny section of it.... Didn't have the dust cover on, which made things worse...

I'm lucky in that I've never really had to take care of younger members of my extended family.

Yipee! Do I get a hug?

 back anyway!

Hi. I decided to join this conversation. And yet I have nothing of value to add...

My uncle adopted the sweetest little baby boy! His name's Eddie and he's black and the cutest thing! When he was a few months old, he had an afro, but it got hard to maintain so they trimmed it. He's really well behaved, too. He started whining, but we just stuck a pacifier in his mouth and I sang him some songs (random slow songs, some even from musicals like Les Mis) and he fell asleep. He was well behaved at the table when we went to eat lunch (except for the fact that he dropped my aunt's sunglasses and kept drooling over the plastic menu.) He's six monthes old and he knows two words.

And I am just in love with him!

But I babysit too, but the kids are a little older. The boys are really terrors, though there are the occasional angelic demon girl child. These two kids I sit for regularly, one's in fifth grade, the other's in third. Kelsey, the eldest, keeps her little brother in line better than I do! Connor can be a real pain, but Kelsey can massage the kink outa my neck that he's left.

OK, now that I've added that little tidbit, I'm off and away to save the day!

Hiya Ravenclaw! Have a butterbeer! I must say, the place seems more like itself with its namesake hanging about! :)

Xaz glances at Ravenclaw's avatar and grins.

Aha, we have another Cartoon Network fan amongst us! Good ol' Grim, hehehe! Reminds me, I've be meaning to change MY avatar...

Eh, maybe later. :D

Ravenclaw :D:hug: That baby sounds adorable! Babies are just the cutest! I can deal with them, although my baby brother is now two... Babies! *squeaks!* Aww! he just burst his balloon on the cactus!

There's me thinking her avatar was a cartoony Voldie! :o

Grim?!?! *Eeeeep!* I love that show... So glad they got their own show, evil was kinda stupid.

Children are only fun when they're not yours, it may be fun to play with them for a while (even though I don't like babies no matter what), but you wouldn't want to take care of one by yourself.

Sounds like you're talking about dolls Cedric! My sister used to have dolls, but she hated looking after her friend's dolls :p

Ok, this good mood is worrying me... Every single one of my friends is on holiday... and I'm in a good mood...

Cedric
07-29-2003, 04:43 PM

Yeah, we get Arthur, but it's on PBS, which isn't a channel I watch... Mostly educational shows.

Fleurdelacour
07-29-2003, 05:16 PM
Many things Cedric, like the fact, I can now read PoA with out crying... That's weird enough! Or maybe I'm the weird one... That's possible... or maybe it's hormones... Not been this happy since I left school!!

Education shows are fun :) In a way... Documentaries rock! :D :p

Ravenclaw
07-29-2003, 06:34 PM
PPS is an OK station, like if I'm channel surfing, I'll stop and catch the Magic School Bus. lol.

You cry in PoA? I scream! I get so frustrated at the end with Snape and... argh! But yes, I suppose I can see the sadness in it.

Hm... books 3, 4, and 5 are all kinda depressing at the end, and the depression increases in each book. Gosh, by book 7, Harry'll need a darn good psychiatrist!

By the way, anyone here watch the Disney Channel? Hehe, I like shows there too. Like Even Stevens or Kim Possible or Boy Meets World...

OK, I'm done being strange now.

ChianaWeasley
07-29-2003, 09:11 PM
We used to receive the disney channel but we dont anymore, the only thing I really watched on an everyday basis was 'Even Stevens'. Who doesn't love Louis, or good ole' Beans?

"I smell bacon!!!"

Haven't seen that show in ages...well not unless I'm at someone else's house. :D

I used to watch Arthur every now and then but not anymore, that was right after the teletubbies and before the Price is Right. Good old animatronic Bob Barker;)

Well, I don't have to change it, I just figured a change is as good as a holiday! Plus, our other Tv is busted, and what with uni and all I don't have time to play Zelda at the moment which can be frustrating when I look at my avatar. ;)

I've got a coupla ideas, I was gonna go with the Cartoon Network theme everyone else seems to be going with, hehe! :)

Oh! The Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles! :D I looooved them! They rocked me socks :D!! And they've made a new version?! :jawdrop: I refuse to believe it until I see it!!

Johnny Quest... Doesn't ring a bell... Maybe we didn't get it in Britian, or maybe I didn't watch it.... I remember Johnny Bravo, that arrogant git with the blonde hair... But he's pretty recent.

Does anyone remember the Smurfs? They were fantastic! There was like, one girl smurf to go round!

Remebered another one! Raggydolls, this was British so maybe you didn't get it... but it had the best theme tune! Raggy dolls, raggy dolls! Doll like you and me!

Mmm... I might change my avatar... I'm rather attached to it, lol...If I found a good Smurf one!

Cedric

I think we were talking about the new one Cw. I only remember one episode of that show very well... And it's true Fleur, I've heard of that new show, thought it was kinda stupid though, even though I've never seen it.

The Smurfs is still on here, not new ones or anything. I turned on the T.V. one day to some cartoons and it was on.... Maybe it was the movie...

Well i heard in Europe they changed it, because it offended people or something along those lines.

I remember the smurfs!!!
I used to watch them all the time!
I dont think it is on air anymore here, but if it is I've missed it.

I LOVED Masters of The Universe, Ghostbusters, Muppet Babies, Fraggle Rock, the Muppet Show, Rugrats, Angry Beavers, Two Stupid Dogs, Dexter, My Little Ponies, and Care Bears!!!

There are loads more I just cant remember them at the moment. :p

I was into the old Johnny Quest as well!

*squeaks reinisantly!*

Oh! all these shoes! I feel like I'm going back about ten years! I loved Ghostbusters, that was the Harry Potter of my pre-school years! I had the tricycle, the action bloke toy things, the books, rah! I was obsessed! I can't believe I forgot about it!

The Muppet Show! Oh that was genius! It was always on at dinner time! My mum loves the Muppet Show, she loves Animal, but, I don't care, Fossie Bear was my baby!

My Little Pony! That was a short phase we me... I think... I don't really remember being obsessed with it, but my mum said I was... I remember getting the magazine once in Sainsburies, but thats it!

Care Bares!! I remember them... slightly... They're coming back too... When I was on the ferry coming back from Jersey they were selling cuddly toys... And in Topshop (my home ;) ) they were selling really kitch Care Bear tee-shirts in the same rack as the John Lennon ones, but they didn't have them in my size...*sigh*

Oh! Does anyone remember the Animals Of Farthing Wood? That changed my life! I never thought I'd cry my eyes out over hedgehogs getting killed!!

ok, still really happy, so hugs to everyone!! :D

I could probably name all my favorite characters from those shows!

Eigon was the ghostbuster w/ glasses, yeah? I don't remember. Well I liked him. I'll look it up hold on...

I liked Jessie from Johnny Quest... and Johnny of course. Uh, actually, I've seen both the 60's and the recent nineties one of JQ cuz it used to be my fav show in Cartoon Network and they showed both. Like, one's the Original Adventures and the other's the New Adventures or something... The New Adventures has a cooler intro.

Ooh ooh! I liked baby Beaker from Muppet babies! I have a couple episodes of that on VHS. My brother taped cartoons in the US before we moved to another country so he'd have his fav shows to watch-- he's 20 now with no need for them. I try to make good use of them, laughing and reminiscing.

You know what else I liked? Transformers! They were cool!

I loved the Muppet Show. They were so funny, I saw a couple rerun episodes on BBC about two years ago, but it was on at 11:00AM so I only watched it in summer and that's the last time I've seen it.

Speaking of "Rerun" who here likes Charlie Brown? (I can explain if you don't see my conection).

Care Bears! Hahaha, I saw their movie! The first one they made. Oh, I loved that show. Loved My Little Ponies too. LOL, MLP was on Belgian TV, and it was all in Flemmish. It was funny to watch.

I think I'll get out my old tapes and see what other cartoons I miss...

*Cedric-- good idea about the avatar. I think we should have a cartoon themed month every year where everyone has a cartoon avatar, title, maybe even siggy and the like. Ooh, I'll do that now... Hey, let's make it August since it just started. Yes, yes, spread the word!

Hehehehehehehe!

Oh, and PS: I love Family Guy and Adult Swim. Haha, Home Movies... Birdman, Attorny at law... I find these shows hilarious. Oh, and Futurama of course!

Fleurdelacour
08-02-2003, 03:41 PM
The siggy is going to far ;) *strokes siggy* I had to make an avatar instead!

Oh! Does anyone remember Super Ted? :D oh, he was amazing!

Cedric
08-02-2003, 09:24 PM
Super Ted?? Ced nods and slowly backs away....

I loved Beast wars, that's really the only Transformers I've ever gotten into. The new one is kinda stupid, with the minicons and everything.

That's a great idea Rc, I'll should start a thread about that.

I just love all those Adult Swim shows... Home movies, birdman, aqua teen, SeaLab. Comedy central has a good late night line-up on Sunday too. Dilbert, The Critic, and Undergrads. Good stuff.

Yeah, I remember it.. I loved that show, even though I was far too old for it, LOL. Moley was my favourite, remember the little mole who used to sit on Badger's head all the time? He was adorable! :)

Hehehe, SuperTed! I suppose he was kinda awesome. ;)

Thank god! Someone else remembers! I remember once an owl... Who reminds me of Professor McGonagall... Got covered in cement or something. That show was depressing... They kept killing the hedgehogs!! Didn't badger die too? And the Weasles! They hated each other at first then they loved each other...

Speaking of death in cartoons... Does anyone remember a show about ducks... There was a whole family of ducks, and they all got run over. And the father wanted to seek revenge on who killed his family... I only saw one episode because I was sick and it was on during school... but it was depressing... I covered my lunchbox in pictures of the ducks! :o But I can't remember what the show was called... so if anyone knows! tell me...

Ahh, Super Ted, I loved him when I was about... Five I think, he was more of a book thing though. He was a flying teddy!! A Super Teddy! ;)

Captain Planet... Rings a bell! I rememember Banana Man, sme kid called Eric ate a banana and turned into a muscle man...

It is sooooo hot right now... In Paris and Rome it's meant to be like 40c! And it's no cooler here!! On Wednesday it's going to be so hot, the weather peeps thinks it'll break records! 37c!! :jawdrop:

I use to watch Capitan Planet all the time. I think it always annoyed me to some point though...

I know how you feel Fleur, it's been around those temps here the last week or so. But today and yesterday it's been cooling down a lot. There are still cities around me that have been having 40c-ish temperatures for about a week straight.

How hot was in today Fleur? Here, it's really cloudy and chilly. Hasn't been like this is months. We actually got rain. Crappy thing about it is that there's been T storms all day, which started about 4 hours before I got up. The things were so loud I was feeling things around me shake.

But it has been nice getting a good nights sleep, and not having to pull off my covers because it's so hot.

It's not exactly that I was rooting for the bad side, it's just that a lot of things didn't make sense. I donno, maybe I'm just not remembering it right :)

Band camp? It's like camp, but your in a band, right Chiana?

Wonderful sword play,
great story line,
interesting characters,
Orlando and Johnny :swoon:

Elizabeth, the female character, isn't the usual damsel in distress which I'de like to see more often. Honestly, you females out there, doesn't that get alittle old. I know I wouldn't be screeching "Oh,somebody please save me!!!"

It's kinda funny that Pirates is just coming out over there, and it's been out here for a while, and there's someone in the movie who's in a movie that's been out over there for a while, but is just now coming out over here. Did any of that make sense?

Oh god... read this!! a review to a fic i cant post up here... a musical with the marauders... Lmao! I've never read a funnier HP parody than this before!! I cracked up
everytime they came to thier senses and realized what's going on.rnrnToo bad
Remmie's gay in this fic! *pouts* ^^ rnBut it would be so funny, if Lily next catches this 'disease'. Like she could be really angry at James, AGAIN, and then all of a sudden she starts signing to him. Or maybe Snape! That would be halarious!! But its only the marauders that sing, right?Anywayz, can u write
songs that are popular...? All this Queen and uh...what do u call it? I think Abba, well I had no idea how the tunes went except for 'If ur not the one'. Can
u write parody's of Britteny Spears or Avril Lavigne?

I am NOT going to start my Marauders singing Britney and Avril!! ugh! Sorry, just needed to rant! Yeah, good review, but no! Queen is popular! and it wasn't Abba! It was Cyndi Lauper! Everyone knows Queen songs surely?!

Cedric
08-08-2003, 10:58 PM
Yeah, it would be quicker for me to sneak into a theater, steal a reel, mail it to a British cinema, and let them show it. There is no point in making either of us wait. I could have downloaded "28 days later" off the internet before it came out in theaters here.... Craaazy.

Hehe, yup, that's the one.. they sung it in 'We Will Rock You', the Queen musical.. I went to see it last weekend! :D

I didn't think their version of Crazy Little Thing Called Love was fantastic, but the musical itself was pretty excellent. They changed some things for the Australian audience which no doubt probably helped a little too. :)

Fleurdelacour
08-08-2003, 11:49 PM
You saw 'We Will Rock You' *jealous face* I'm desperate to see that, properly!

Last year at a concert, the cast of 'We Will Rock You' did the finale, and Brian May was doing the guitar bits, and he walked past me twice! My mother refused to believe it, even though I had the picture! She's a massive Queen fan, never got to see them live though... One of her biggest regrets...

I don't know whether you heard, but some bloke called John Farnham is meant to be replacing Freddie Mercury in a re-release of a Queen single - I think... It's nearly 4am... cant really remember... I heard he's pretty, well crap... No one can replace Freddie...

Xazinon
08-09-2003, 12:05 AM
Well, Ben Elton walked past us on the way out, thanking people for going: that was pretty neat .:)

LOL, John Farnham? I hadn't heard THAT about him! He's a very famous guy over here.. he's just been touring, his last official tour. I wouldn't go calling him 'crap' too loudly over here.. maybe his version of a Queen song aint too flash, but he's had some pretty big hits over here.

Like 'Sadie, the cleaning lady...' sing it with me Amb! :D

Amberion
08-09-2003, 12:26 AM

We Will Rock You was great - in fact it kinda rocked!! I really enjoyed infact it was probably the best thing i have seen for ages. Fleurdelacour

Sticky buns.... Mmmm.... Why don't you get them on Tuesdays and Thursdays? Don't they like being baked ob days that begin with Ts? :p I wonder what college food will be like... Better be better then the flies on pizza we used to get... Blarfgh! :barf: *shudder*

if anything the food will be worse!! i have never had good school food!
What courses are you going to do in college Phineas? I think i must be mad - i want to physics, maths, History and Enlish! (i can't believe i want to do physics! only borring people do physics...

Fleurdelacour
08-15-2003, 03:11 PM
Physics is interesting... Siriusly! I love Science, wasn't very good at it, but it was interesting! Maths? That's mad... That's even wrong....

I'm doing... Media Studies, English, Fine Art, and Textiles... Soft subjects :p

PhineasNigellus

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea of going to college at 16. That's craaaaaazy.

Oh, and what's the difference between media studies and fine art? And what do you do in textiles? Different kinds of faberic perhaps?

PhineasNigellus

Well, at least you can console yourself with the fact the Govenment are going to love you! Just what i always wanted! - i reckon all the marks are fixed anyway though!

Fleurdelacour
08-16-2003, 12:49 PM
Well Fine Art is well, art, just with a better name :p And full of artsy boys (NO MORE GIRLS CONVENT!!). And Media Studies just looks liek pure fun, a boy in my class looks like the lead singer of the all american rejects... :swoon: anyway... in media studies, you study aspects of the media, design websites, make music videos, anyalyse films and fun things like that :D and essays, and an exam in January, but I can deal with that.

Textiles....No idea what we do there, we didn't do a introductory course for that subject when we had the welcome day in July. But it's got something to do with fabric and stuff :p I'm taking because I want to be a designer in something...

Yup, it's fixed. Agree with you there! If I don't pass English and Art, it's a fix!....

ChianaWeasley
08-16-2003, 05:41 PM
I never did understand how someone could fail an art class...either someone does no work, or the teacher is out to get them. I had a spanish teacher my freshman year of highschool who was out to get me, but Avas!!!:D I passed anyway, muhaha

Textiles always seemed like an iteresting class to take. I've taken fine art already, it was an alright class. But I'm sure college fine Art courses are much more interesting then highschool Fine Art courses.

I just recieved my course listing for my junior year, very blah because I doubled up on subjects, but that leaves more interesting classes to choose from senior year:cool:

Honors British Literature
Honors Global History II
Honors Chemistry
Honors Geo-Trig
CP Geometry
CP Physics Wave
Band
Life Mgt Skills (blarg!)

and my best subject: Lunch :p

Fleurdelacour
08-16-2003, 06:43 PM
Life Mgt Skills? Life Midget Skills? :p

Maybe in British Lit, you might study Harry Potter. I'm hoping for that in college (if I get my B...) I'd pass with flying colours! :D Well, it was on our reading list...

Cedric
08-16-2003, 07:17 PM
Crist... I couldn't ever handle that many honors classes, I prefer just getting over 100% in some of my normal classes. Gives you a much better feeling :D

I'm not so sure about that art thing Chiana, I mean some teachers (like the one I had this last semester) will let you pass as long as you do everything. It really amazed me how many people failed that class. But their are some that grade you on how good you are, which, in moderation in a good thing.

Harry potter? I think they'd probably teach more along the lines of Daniel Defoe, Jane Austen. But you can always hope :D

-Cedric

Fleurdelacour
08-16-2003, 07:30 PM
My sister did Harry Potter, but she's thirteen ;)

Ah! Jane Austen! She's on my reading list! I didn't read her... I didn't read anyone apart from Harry Potter and some other ones... You just reminded me! Oh never went to the art galleries either... ok, thats what I'll do next week to keep my mind off Doomsday... thank you for reminding me!

What are honors etc?

PhineasNigellus
08-16-2003, 08:09 PM
if u did Hp in class you would end up really hating it - english teachers have this habit of twisting books you like so badly that you really hate them! (if that makes sense..)

ChianaWeasley
08-16-2003, 09:50 PM
Well, i like to challenge myself, and at my school if you take lower level classes the people in it just dont care. But not everyone. I find honors classes are better because most of the class is willing to learn. And I had to read Jane Erye for brit lit, and that was a sinche. Because I've read it since seventh grade, score!

And I had to read a book by a british author, Harry Potter OoTP, done and done :D. And if they say no to that book then...hopefully Jenifer Roberson is british :D

Keeping your mind of doomsday? You mean going back to school..lol...thats one way of putting it ;)

Fleurdelacour
08-17-2003, 10:51 AM
Doomsday - Thursday 21st August Midday.... GCSE Results.... THIS WEEK!!!! :jawdrop:

But, there is something good, on the 2nd September I'm finally seeing Phamtom of the Opera!! :D

I don't think a teacher would twist it... I don't know if they could twist it... I'm not religeious... Not unless the teacher kept on mentioning Sirius's death, or if the teacher was a Harry/Hermione shipper :p

PhineasNigellus
08-17-2003, 02:32 PM
I can just imagine my old english teacher over analysing the scene where Harry first meets Snape to such an extent that really it was obvious (due to the use of syntax, of course) that Snape really does love Harry.

My english teacher this year was very interesting, and odd and cool at the same time. Now I catch myself over anaylzing. Darn you Mr. Reinking:p And now me and Avada go back into the books and read over them to reanaylze them all, discuss what we may have missed or overlooked.

Fleurdelacour
08-18-2003, 04:19 PM
My old English teacher was Italian, she was a LotR fantatic, posters of Aragorn all over the classroom :swoon: She wasn't the best of teachers, so we never did over analyze... The higher classes got that with Mrs Muller...

My old maths teacher was Professor Umbridge - I swear. She was also headmistress.. She looked like a toad, came into the school and changed everything! She was a little horror... But I think I've ranted about her before.

It's Monday....

Fleur, honors classes are just like regular classes, only harder and more advanced.

The thing that bothers me is that just because I'm smart, and I do well in school, my teachers suddenly think that I want to be given harder material. What's wrong with just blazing through something that I find easy?!? Doesn't make sense to me... See, I don't consider myself as "the smart type", but I guess other people do, which is weird.

Here follows my qualifications.

Art - B
English Lit - B
English Language - B
French - D (I was predicted C, I find french bloody easy...)
Maths - D (somehow... I got a D... I expected a U!)
Double Science - DD (third best subject... got As in my modules. something fishy... How the hell can I get a D in Maths and get a D in science...)
History - D (i expected that though :p It's just horrid... oh god...)
Religious Education - D (I'm suprised at that, as I never listened in class or did my coursework...)

Everyone I know, from Fleur to my best mates got practially straight As... OH GREAT! NOW MY LAPTOP IS PLAYING UP!! CHARGE YOU STUPID THING!!!

ok... breath... get chocolate and more wine...

You'd be me-less ;) Think I joined Hufflepuff... not brave... not cunning unless it involves tormenting my sister... not brainy... hufflepuff only one left...

Aww!

Try not to worry about it, FleurD, though I know that's probably a very hard thing to do! I always try to hold on to the fact that grades aren't the end of the world, and that there is more to life than school and marks and essays and assignments and so on.

You just need to pick yourself up, get back on that little bicycle and pedal pedal pedal! School is like the training wheels: it helps, but you're still the one in charge of the bike and where you want it to go!
Gosh, I sound so deep and insightful: amazing! :D

Glad I could help you out a little FleurD: you're too much fun to be going around being miserable! ;)

Another thing is, university isn't always the best thing for people right after high school: I've already changed universities myself and I still don't have any real idea what I want to do or anything. :)
I don't know how it works over in the UK, but here you can still get into some of the university courses providing you go to a TAFE (no, I can't remember what it stands for) first. I was doing accounting, and if you went and did two years at TAFE and got a diploma you were exempt from the first year of the university course. It might be more work, but it would also be cheaper initially, and you could possibly get a better idea as to whether that was really the course for you. I don't know if that's true, it's just a suggestion I thought I might offer. :)

I think I've been helpful enough to earn a chocolate bar.. whaddya say people? :D

That's great Fleur :)

The registration for the upcoming semester took me all of about five minutes, they are SOOOOOOO unorganized! I'm not even gonna know where my classes are (or even if they gave me the right classes) until the first day. To add to that, they're giving us an entire new time schedule, and it even looked to me like they took off the signs that tell you which rooms are where.

I just wanna know what these people are smoking and get it away from them as soon as possible.

Hullo everyone... haven't posted here in a while.

Hello Ravenclaw_girl. Enjoy yourself here, there's plenty of fun to be had.

Raven sneaks in through the portraithole and retreats to a corner where she magicks up a piano. She enchants the piano to play a tune while holding sheet music and nervously biting her lip.

"On my own, there's no one here besiiiiiide me! No, no, that's not it..."

Ravenclaw, who has previously had the whole score to the musical Les Miserables memorized backwards, forewards and upside down, and could sing the whole upside down is now so anxious, she seems to have forgotten the friggen words.

"Oh woe is me! Auditions are on Sunday and I've forgotten the song!"

Oh, and by the by, CONGRATS FLEUR! They're lucky to have you.

NOTE: I haven't really forgotten the solo of my favorite character in Les Mis, but my hands are sweaty, and shaking so much it's so hard not to make any typos. Gosh, it's only, what, Wednessday? LOL!

Ooh, a piano! And Les Miserables! I'd like to help you practice, Ravenclaw, but I haven't seen it performed: the only bit I know is the bit from the time we had to sing it at a high school presentation night, heh! Though, apparently, it was the best presentation night song ever! I know that one which goes...

Xaz clears his throat importantly.

"Do you hear the people SING, singing the song of angry men,
It is the music of the people who will not be slaves again!"

...

And so forth.. I can help you with that bit if you like! :D

Best of luck with the auditions, Ravenclaw! :) Maybe to relax you need to calm down and play something else, to take your mind off it! Ooh, like the Entertainer, gotta love that tune! I used tp play piano, and that's about the only thing I can really half remember how to play. And the Sting, what a cool movie! :D

Er, sorry, how long ago did I digress? ;)

Ravenclaw
09-04-2003, 11:22 AM
No problems, Xaz, I digress all the time.

Ah, Do You Hear the People Sing! Great song! Beautiful beat. DA da DA da DA da DA! Quite powerful...

Aw, I'm alright. I gave singing lessons to some anxious Freshmen today who were worse than I was. There's a particular part I want, and there are 50 people trying out so... Yeah, it's a big deal for our school, you know? Cuz it's a huge play...

um, yah.

Ooh a guitar guy! :D Better then those MC type of peoples... I have one in my form class in college, he just suddenly started to MC when introducing himself...

ChianaWeasley
09-05-2003, 11:28 PM
a mandolin is a round guitar...alot like the lute. Plays beautifully for folkish music, and its also used for bluegrass. Depends on the type really, but they're really exspensive!

We debated earlier which was more attractive, a pianist or a guitarist. I say a pianist :D

Xazinon
09-05-2003, 11:33 PM
Hey, if I can play both piano AND guitar, does that then make me doubly attractive? ;) :D

Xaz makes a note to start practicing piano again.

I suppose I'm a guitar guy, though I'm not particularly any good: I used to have lessons for a couple of years, but now I just tend to potter round on it for my own amusement more than anything. I can play a couple of thing reasonably well: the good thing about guitar is it seems to be much easier to get music for it off the 'Net than it is to get piano sheet music. :)

I really enjoy the guitar, but I would find it really cool to be good enough at piano to play in one of those saloons in Western movies: hehehe, that'd be sooooo neat! :) :D

ChianaWeasley

Well they use fires at Hogwarty-worts... Viktor Krum complained he didnt have anyway...

Yes, I suppose it is a muggle luxury, but some of those muggles have it pretty good I reckon, not every idea they have can be a bad one, can it? :) You girls are right though, I suppose magic always DOES hold the answers!

Raises an interesting question, this does: at what point in the history of invention do you think muggles and wizards diverged? I mean, yknow, who's taking credit for the wheel, and fire, and furniture and stuff? I'm guessing the wizards probably would, but surely the muggles must have come up with SOMETHING good!

Mmmm, a fire.. it's all wintery over here, not summery like it is for you northern hemisphere folk!

Xaz drops into a comfy armchair near the fire, keeping a sharp eye out for BH and the fire poker she's wielding.

Ahhh, that's better... someone wake me up if my shoes are on fire, would you? ;)

Our weather has returned to wintry... Was fabulously hot, I even manged sunburn on my back... It's miserable drizzle and quite windy now...

Yes I suppose it would be interesting...

Muggle Cave Guy #1: Look! I big brain! *points to fire*

Muggle Cave Woman #1: Blah! Mammoth Dung! Bloke there did fire with STICK! *points to the other bloke.

Wizard Cave Guy (Other bloke): I am genius! *Points his magical stick at Cave Guy #1, making him explode.

Muggle Cave Woman #1: Lets make small cave-people! *runs off with wizard cave guy*

Fleur throws pieces of coal at BH. "Wake me up and dieeee!"

Kind of like the chicken and the egg question. Who actually created fire first; the wizard or the drooling Neaderthal? Of course we all know the answer to that question....;)

Its alot like China, who has invented everything before everyone else. Except the hot air balloon, which the U.S. invented first. I should be proud of that...:p

~BH
06-18-2004, 06:30 PM
Thwacks the coal away with the fire poker so that it hits Chiana and Xaz

Even more interesting, how did wands come about? Did a cave wizard just see a twig one day a think 'well, you know what I think would be a really nice idea, really fun, if I just picked up that stick over there and waved it around while saying strange sounding words, yes, what a lark that will be. Woo hoo'.

Xazinon
06-18-2004, 11:04 PM
Xaz yelps and wakes up with a start, rubbing his head, before picking pieces of coal out of his hair.

"Ow, who threw that? Why I oughtta...oughtta...well, I oughtta do something, but it's just so nice and warm and cozy here that I don't think I can be bothered. Just.. don't do it again, y'hear?"

Xaz snuggles back down into the chair, casting wary gazes from side to side.

****

Ooh, good question, I wonder who DID come up with the idea for wands? My money's on Gilderoy Lockhart, he'd surely at least take credit for it! ;)

The US invented the hot air balloon? Wow, good for you guys, I didn't know that! made me wonder exactly what Australia had invented, I knew a couple of them, but a couple I certainly didn't! If you want to see, go to http://www.palindrome.com.au/firsts.html and scroll down to the inventions category... one of us bright Aussies invented the notepad, that's pretty impressive! :D

I always thought the French invented the air balloon... I think one of my Paris posters clouded my knowledge...

http://images.art.com/images/products/regular/10061000/10061175.jpg

Eiffle Tower + air balloon = Fleur thinking air balloons come from France...

We used to have an air balloon on the South Bank... It was tied down so it wouldnt float away... Only thing is... It DID float away one day and ened up miles away in Peckham! The air balloon has since been replaced by the London Eye... A lot safer :p

Ah where would be without the notebook? Our hand would be blue and black from the amount of inky notes...

Laytex gloves! Oh they're awful! They remind me of the dentists... *shudder* I don't want a man's laytex fingers in my mouth thank you very much...

Oh lets see... What did the Irish invent!

Irish Inventions! (http://www.oxygen.ie/features/feat_inventions.php3)

We're responsibe for the ATOMIC BOMB?! Well... We invented colour photography! :p

Leonardo Divinci?

no, no, no! I learned in S.S. class that the US invented the hot air balloon, that cannot be wrong!!!No!!!

Ah Leonardo DaVinci... The Mona Lisa is being ruined in Musee de Louvre... People keep on taking photos of it! There's a queue to see the famous painting (that's oh so small, but yet so capitvating) and there was this American couple, who actually looked and acted like the typical tourist, and they were talking about how they couldn't wait to TAKE A PHOTO of it! Ugh! The nerve of them! I felt like turning around and swering to them in French... But I didn't... They had some big arse camera too! And there were signs everywhere in all languages from Afrikaans to Zulu! PICTURES! And if you don't understand pictures then why are you in the world's biggest and most famous art gallery?!

So yes... The Mona Lisa is slowly fading away...

Leonardo DaVinci did blueprints for allsorts of inventions.... The submarine, helicopter, crane, clock, parachutes, a robot activated by water or weights, water pumps... He obviously had a lot of time on his hands :p

Well now, this is interesting... according to this (http://www.thewayitworks.co.uk/invention32-Inventor.html) link, the hot air balloon wasn't invented by the Americans OR by Leonardo Da Vinci but instead was invented by a couple of French people! Of course internet sources are always of somewhat dubious credibility, but I think that it's an interesting consideration nonetheless! There go the French again trying to take credit for everything, eh? ;)

Xaz throws a marshmallow at BH and gives her a wink.

Ah, you gave up too easy, dear! I think you just need to try throwing something more edible and you might have a bit more success! :D

Prefer the flying coal to marshmallows eh Fleur?

Da Vinci did invent a flying machine, it just wasn't a balloon (http://www.angelfire.com/electronic/awakening101/leonardo.html). I knew it was something.

For those of an enquiring mind - The Montgolfier brothers (french) invented the first ballon to get off the ground

So the french can correctly take credit for this

Actually Chiana there have been many inventions by americans - none more important than the electric light globe

My goodness... I just read through the entire thead... Which has resulted in a bad tension headache... I relieved quite depressing memories back in this thread! I'm feeling really sentimental now :o Today was just a weird day at college... We started our A-LEVELS! So it reminded me of when I failed my exams... The worst day of my life... But, (still in cheesey sentimental mood) I really don't think I'd be doing my A-Levels now if it wasn't for you lot... :)

Hehe, thanks Amb, I guess that internet source I used can be accredited as correct after all! :)

Hey, the light bulb, that's pretty good! However would cartoon characters have come up with ANY ideas if it wasn't for the invention of the light bulb and its ability to hover over their heads at moments of inspiration? Would have been very difficult, I'd wager! ;)

Wow, that Da Vinci bloke did pretty well for himself in between fighting evil, eating pizza and living in a sewer, didn't he? Don't know WHERE he found the time for cross-dressing, but good on him for giving it a go! :D

Awww, a bit sentimental FleurD? Nothing wrong with that, not at all! It's nice to see this place came in handy for you, I knew it must be good for something, heh. Hey, nice umbrella by the way, very stylish! ;)

Ah... all those great Old Masters of the sewers, Donatello, Michelangelo... it ain't easy being green.

Have you read the Da Vinci Code Chiana? I finished it a few days ago and got really involved with the storyline. Makes you wonder how much truth is in the basic idea.

My great, great, great, great (insert a whole bunch of greats here) grand uncle invented immunisation (specifially immunisation against smallpox, it was the first type ever). So you can thank him for all those injections you had to go through at school.

Fleurdelacour
06-22-2004, 12:01 PM
Ha! Someone to blame at long last :p Y'know... I never got the BCG because I've these three injection marks on my upper left arm... I rolled up my school shirt and the nurse said I didn't need it! But no one has three...

Ah the Old Masters :notworthy much better then that Tracey Emin... Yes, a messy bed is such art... Anyone could claim their messy bed was art then! All of us could be artists! Just wake up, move your bed into a gallery and call it art! Of course you'd have to make it really disgusting by having used and soiled underwear and used sanitary towels just for that contraversal element...

Blah... I'm not the sentimental type... I think romance, cheesyness and sentimentalness should be reserved to films... I'm quite cruel when it comes to romance... :o

Stupid umbrolly hit me today... But it's so cute... Ickle ladybirds...

Underwear gnomes?! Alien abduction?! I am not a walking experiment! :p Yes... The alledged injection marks may be in a slight geometric mattern (one on top, and two below in a triangle shape) but... but -

Yes anway... back to being an art critic! :D

Yes... Yes... That German "artist"... That was vile oh it was awful... I don't really want to see plasticised foetuses or horses... (Actually, I don't think I ever want to see a horse again after watching Animal Passions on Channel 4 the other day... :barf: ) People volunteer to be plasticised!

All that man was trying to do was get his 15 mins of fame using revolting exhibits of plasticised preserved bodies! He's just glamourising death...

What's happened to REAL art?! There only seems to be one REAL modern artist these days and that's the great Lucien Freud :notworthy

Ooh, the Da Vinci Code, I hear that's a good read! I was going to but it but my mum wanted it for her birthday, so I bought it for her and politeness dictates I have to let her read it before i can. ;) A friend of mine told me thta there was an internet trail you could follow that was based around the book that's supposed to be pretty fun, have you given that a go BH? :)

Wow, this thread is really getting deep, we're on to art now! If only I could remember where that great art quiz was that I've done, it would go great with this line of questioning.. I'll try and dig it up and post it on here for you guys to have a go at! I'm not too fond of the more modernist/postmodernist stuff, I like the landscape paintings and so on: I'm starting to like art a bit more than I used to I think. I saw the movie Girl With a Pearl Earring and I thought that was pretty good, I really should get around to reading the book that it's based on!

*sigh* Too much to read, far too much.. it's a tough life. ;)

Xaz puts on his miner's hat and goes off to try and dig up the art quiz for the enjoyment of all.

An internet trail? Sounds good. I wouldn't have the faintest idea where to start though.

Damn. We sound really mature.

ChianaWeasley
06-24-2004, 01:38 PM
ooo....we're delving into art now?

excellent...Chiana rubs her hands together like Mr. Burns

We'll real art, all depends on a person's definition of what art is.

For example art, in my opinion, is NOT art when;
a). people use bodily fluids as paint
b). they beat up a car with a baseball bat
c). Salvador Dali avoids trouting
d). a canvas painted ONE color
e). child pornopraghy
f). unfinished sketches that resemble nothing

Art is;

a). Neo-classicism period art
b). DaVinci
c). people who draw awesome scenes on the sidewalk, in chalk for spare change

Fleurdelacour
06-24-2004, 04:23 PM
Well, we're meant to get deep - we're Ravenclaws arent we? :p

I love Surrealism - so :trout: for Chiana :D Painting your dreams... Why not?! Some of Dali's paintings are so clever.

But I do agree with you on everything else...

HOW is a canvas painted blue art?! My baby (no... he's three now) brother could do that! I was in the Tate Modern recently wandering around and there was a canvas painted sky blue...! It just made no sense to me! When I was in the Pompadou Centre in Paris hoping to see some decent modern art... Nope - nothing... And we walked to that gallery from the Louvre! It was all pile of rubbish, literally!

It's not just child pornography that really gets me... Its this one piece in the Tate Modern - a video... It involved a boxing glove and er... male self-pleasure... A girl in my art class started to complain to one of the attendants! She was mouthing off about how it wasn't art and just weird kinky porn for sad deprived weirdos with no social lives! It was very funny :p But it wasn't art...

Bodily fluids as paint?! I dont think I've ever seen that... :barf: Or at least I hope I haven't!

Personally... I'm not at all fond of Cubism and Constructivism... It's all so technical and mathmatic! I had to do a box on Constuctivism for part of my AS-Level fine art course last year... I threw in a bit of Surrealism to make it less technical... It was a dolls house based on the play A Dolls House. And I made a balsa wood mini sculpture breaking through the floors of the doll house, as if he was breaking free, standing tall and proud. And then in a seperate room to the house I had a clay figure like Rodin's Thinking Man (but mine was a woman) that was trapped in a dark confined space, like the charachter Nora in A Dolls House... My teacher said it was "Interesting..." Not what I had hoped... :o

I love the Pre-Raphelites! I just adore them :D It's creepy, its not what you'd expect of Victorians, its a decent picture! I love Willam Holman-Hunt and Augustus (great surname!) Egg. There were all these tiny little details in a series of Egg's paintings... It was just amazing :)

I am so lucky I live where I do when it comes to art and culture. London is the capital of art. There are so many galleries and musuems... Wish we had the Louvre, but we can't have it all!
;)

Woah... That was a long post! :o

ChianaWeasley
06-24-2004, 04:48 PM
I have to agree with Pre-Raphealite art, it's all so...well perfect really. And to think, they broke off from the art that was ebing taught at the time, and created their own style. Which was pretty much perfection. Must have sucked for art professors they broke from, huh? :p

And yes, sadly, in America, not only do we have "artists" that reguritate all over canvas. But we have people who actually buy it!

twisted I know...

MoMA in new York City had some great peices when we went there, including a large collection of Lichtenstein. Who at the time was sitting in the basement during construction of the fifth floor. Which was very depressing for me, because I was pumped up and ready to see some 'Pow!' & 'Drowning Woman'. But I did see two of his less known peices, so I can't fully complain. And the 'Water Lilies' by Monet that spanned two walls was simply....amazing there really aren't even words for something like that...

But if you're ever in New York, go to the Modern Art Museums if you have the chance. Just, don't eat at their resturant. Very snotty crowd.

 I want to do Art History (or History of Art, wording depends on what University) :) Prince William does History of Art at St. Andrew's Univeristy in Scotland... I guess it must be pretty good - royal approval! It'd be kinda cool having the same qualifications as a future King!

I spent most of my time in the art section too... I only emerge to laze around in the cafeteria or the English classrooms!

Yes Xaz, make your friend make you appreciate surrealism more! Or I'll just shove it down everyone's throats!

MY dream school is St. Andrews!!!!
I've been dying to go there for nearly two years now, I even have an application and a requested prospectus. Their curriculum is amazing!

AND they have a superb Medieval Study course, when part of the semester you get to go onto the field!

To me, surrealism is alright, but I just can't stomach Dali anymore.

Fleurdelacour
06-26-2004, 06:47 AM
Wow that's great Chiana! :D I cant figure out how to even get a prospectus on their site... It's such a confusing website! I need a minimum of three Bs in my A-Levels to get into St. Andrews... It's about the same for Warwick (three months in Venice!), York and Bristol Universities. You can study for a year abroad in Bristol, but that course you need BBA...

You need three As to get into Cambridge... Who gets that sort of grades? And you'll have needed As at GCSEs...
I think they'd laugh if they saw my grades!

My art teacher was quite sad to hear I wasn't going to go to art school... She said I had the potential to get into Chelsea, St Martins and Royal College of Art... I am not changing my career... Noo... There's no career in going to art school! You do a foundation course... Get a degree in fine art, then have no career to go into! At least with a History of Art degree I could try and work in a gallery, musuem, or auction house... Or become the female David Dickenson! :p

What do you hope to be Chiana?

ChianaWeasley
06-26-2004, 12:52 PM
This may sound odd, but I'm not sure yet...

art is a tricky business to make any money on, but the Art history arena is more successful...

I'd like to pursue:
- Children's Illustration
- Medieval Archeologist (medieval art)

or who knows, maybe I'll just end up a starving artist who does Characatures on a boardwalk for 5$ each!
:D

European entry level requirments are so confusing to me!!!

Hey Chiana, it would be great if you came over here to do your university studies. If you get into one of the older universities you'd definitely get to appreciate a lot of English Middle Era architecture, they're amazing to look at.

I'm doing Medieval England as part of my history A-Level. Black Death, stroppy kings, lots of little wars, mysterious murders, the Feudal system, bickering Lords...

What a charming history we have.

ChianaWeasley
06-26-2004, 10:19 PM
Haha!

Our history is quite...intricate I guess you could say.

All starting with two boats coming over the "big blue wet thing";)
then they get off the boats when they hit shore,
call themselves pilgrims and wear funny hats and shoes,

and from then on it got alittle crazy,

Needless to say, one person said, "Oy! A dead fish! I shall grow corn with it!I am ingenius!" after watching an Native American do it of course. And from then on there were lots and lots....and lots of. corn.

But my favorite bit of history is Stonewall Jackson, so famous for missing half his left ear, and leaving his legacy in a beer so strong it only takes one swig to knock you over!!!Yay Stonewall!!!
:D
