I'm not sure how many people know of OFUM (Official Fanfiction Univercity Middle-Earth) But it teaches bad LOTR fanfic writers how to write better, they go the the university in Middle-Earth and are taught by the characters e.g.
Numerology 101 by Elrond
What's in a name? 101 by Boromir
Striding 101 by King Elessar
Platonic Love 101 by Frodo and Sam if you pass you go onto
Male Bonding 202 by Legolas and Gimli.
You get the point well beware writers, especially those who get flamed because it has come to the fandom of Harry Potter!

Ha! You don't say? I say I'm a terrible writer. Me friends disagree, but they're, you know, friends. I got flamed once, but I don't count it... it was a person from school that didn't like me very much I found out... mean people.

Hmm... I think there's something like Nimbus 2003 (not really certain what's it about) who also helps people to write - it's only starting and it's apparently going to be more than just help with writing... panels and such... meets?
Can't remember... didn't read the stuff so intensively... :o :p

I would have liked to post a link on here for you guys to just read even if you don't write it's hell funny! But i can't it is on [edited by Nyliram] if you want to go check it out i think its under books.
Cheers and for every character name spelt wrong in a fic a mini aragog is made e.g. Siris (he is an actually mini aragog)

I think one of the most important things to remember about fanfic writing, is the original story. That's where all other ideas come from, and if you're not true to the original story, or at least most of the ideas that make up the original story, then you're already doomed to be a bad writer. I've been writing fan fiction for six years. I've written "X-Files" and "West Wing" fiction and love it. I would never even think about touching LOTR because it's such a vast world in and of itself, that I could never do it justice. I don't want to touch HP because the kids are too young to "play" with and... well yeah.. haha. Just remember... stick to the basics when it comes to the characters... if you're not true to their basic characteristics, then you're not true to the story you're writing. Have fun :D
ps: I'm a fanfiction editor, have been for years. If any of you ever want an extra pair of eyes go over your work (I'm great with commas and stuff), or just want someone to give you feedback... e-mail me anytime... I love reading :D

Cheers for the heads up, didn't know, actually, didn't remember. Oh well the fic is good to tell some people not to meddle in other people's worlds.

My point with fanfiction is that I kinda believe in theory of "everything has been written before"... I mean, "I love you" is a quote... (wonder who has the copyright? ;))
I've stuck my head into the possiblities and endings that JKR won't probably ever write... I think she's going to end the series Harry being 17, so there's Harry's (and other character's) whole adulthood to consider... ;)
LotR would be impossible to me, but I'm working on some HP fic... but dunno yet about it :) StarGazr - I might e-mail/PM you one of my short fics, if that's okay? It's HP, but I really dunno about it... it could go on as an independed story... almost :)
