I just love the costumes in this movie! Has anyone noticed how they are used in the movies to bring out different aspects of the characters?
For example:
Snape has a very puritanical type outfit
Lockhart has a sort of Victorian and foppish outfit
Hagrid has this woodsman type of thing
Lucius Malfoy has the cane
Mrs. Weasley has an eccentric and homey costume
Thoughts anyone?

I think the cane was a nice touch to Lucius's character. Either he didn't have a cane in the books, or my memory's faulty (as per usual.)
Yes, I thought all the costumes were lovely.

I loved the costumes, especially since it was always a little hard for me to imagine what the robes would look like without them looking silly... but I thought they did a great job. Especially with the Quidditch robes! And I love the schoot outfits with the little vests and different colored ties. :)
And Hagrid's moleskin overcoat is perfect. :D

I loved the costumes, my dream job is to be a costume designer. I thought Lockhart's were brilliant! :D Lived up to him perfectly! :D
The only ones I didn't like were the school robes.
Well they weren't robes... Reminded me of my old Primary School Uniform! Infact, take the Gryffindor gold, and the Slytherin Green, and voila, my old school colours... Primary school uniforms! For 4-11 year olds! Not 11-18 year olds, and school robes... I always saw their uniform as robes, long vestements...

LOL, the uniforms were like primary school.
I always saw their uniforms as just being robes. I thought the idea of having house badges was quite good, though.

Just to let everyone know:
The cane was not in the books. It was actually Jason Isaacs's idea to have the cane. Just as it was his idea to have that line about "Let us hope Mr. Potter will always be around to save the day."
Just a random Lucius fact from a notorious Lucius swooner.

:) You beat me to it.
Lucius' outfit was originally a grey pinstriped suit and a short haircut...
Every please :notworthy to Jason Isaacs for Lucius' PERFECT outfit, most of which was his idea. :)

I liked the costumes but they weren't as described in the books - robes. And that's a sad fact because I :swoon: for robes :p
Students uniforms, however lovely they were, should have been really robes, not Mugglewear underneath...
after all - we know what wizards have under their robes, don't we? ;)
paraphrasing GoF - Quidditch World Cup - Arnie: I like nice wind in my privates

Don't even get me started on the swooniness of Lucius Malfoy's clothes and cane. If my husband looked like that, he'd never leave the house:o It's a wonder the Malfoys aren't more like the Weasleys.
I love Snape's robes, too. Very sparse, dark, and brooding.

I`m not sure about this because i have lent out my copy of Philosophers Stone, but what colour tie is everybody wearing before the sorting hat ceremony?
Each house has a differant coloured tie..............so were they not wearing any ties or were they a neutral colour?

I don't think the school uniforms had ties in the books :p Only the badges (or not even them?)- but I guess they were added later (the badges)...

In the movie, as I recall, they had black ties with the Hogwarts crest on them.

Black ties sound about right, let me go check anyway.
...
Yup, black ties at the welcoming feast w/ the Hogwarts crest just below the knot.

I just love Lucius' cane! Or actually, I just love Lucius. Period. Jason Isaacs did wonderful job with the character. :D

Hi there! Good to meet another fan of Lucius/Jason. I'm hopelessly obsessed with him. :swoon:

May I direct you to the Villain Swoon thread? I promise you will find tons of swoonworthy pictures (and interviews) from not only Jason Isaacs, but also Alan Rickman, Tom Felton, etc.
:D

I concur. Go to the Villain Appreciation Thread (http://www.council-of-elrond.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1660) - you won't regret it! You don't have to read it all, just go in at the end and swoon. :D

This is a bit off topic, but i really like how they pulled off the pointed caps in the film. They weren't stereotype wicked witch hats, they were really neat. :sigh: How we all yearn to go to Hogwarts :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy

Does anyone know where I can find a Hagrid costume? Or what could I put together for one?
Is there a good pic of Hagrid in his costume online? We've been looking and we can't seem to find a full picture of him..
The locale Books-A-Million will be having a party celebrating the release of the new book and my hubbie is going to be Hagrid. I am a newbie when it comes to costumes..so any help at all would be appreciated.
Thanks a lot...

No...he's not! He's going to have to wear stilts or platform boots or something. That should be fun.
Thanks for the help and pics. When its time for the party I'll try and post a pic...

I too like the costumes - one of the things I'd sort of 'interpreted' from the books, was that Wizards did a good bit of 'appropriating' clothing, hair, or makeup styles that they liked from whatever historical period they wanted (much less catwalk-driven than fashion for us Muggles :( ) which I think is cool ... it was nice to see the same played out by the clothing choices of the cast in the two movies thus far. :)
DW - with Hagrid's costume, I'd go for an inexpensive doesuede type fabric for the leather-appearing vest etc. :) Much less expensive, and relatively easy to find at any regular-sized fabric store (you wouldn't have to go to a fancy fabric shop for it - Hancocks, JoAnn's, somewhere like that would likely suit just fine). :)
