View Full Version : The End of COS...

Was anyone else disappointed by the way the ending was done in COS? My friends and I watched the DVD the other night and I still kind of cringe when it comes to the ending. I mean, I love everything else about the movie (mmm...Lucius...;))

I've read that the script and all was approved by JKR, etc, but I'm still kind of disappointed in it...

I just hope they don't do it for POA..that ending in the book rocks!

Well the ending was differant from the book of course, and I was disapointed that they had changed it to begin with. But I really like the last scene with Hagrid, it was heart felt. And basically a really good ending, ven if they did change it :)

I agree...it wasn't a totally bad ending, but I wasn't thrilled with it either...it had the cuteness thing going for it..:)

I absolute hate how it ends... with everyone standing up and clapping for Hagrid. *cringe*ing to the extreme! I don't even watch that part when I watch the DVD. :p

I thought it was okay, just a little unrealistic. I heard someone say (maybe it was on these boards?) that they didn't want the second movie to end the same way as the first one.

Anyway, the ending is sweet if you are able to tolerate a little corniness. :D

It WAS cute, but it was also very unrealistic...I hope they keep the end of PoA true to the book. I liked it the first time when I saw it movies (you know; movie magic) but when I was in my own house I did kinda cringe and was like 'Yeah, and that happens...when?!?!

Oh well, still a good movie:)

I was a little confused for a minute. Apparently I didn't remember anything after the scene between Lucius and Harry. Mmm...now I remember there were some more non-Lucius scenes. I didn't like or dislike it. Eh.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this... but if you go all the way to the end of the credits... there's a little something at the very very end... I don't want to spoil it just yet... so...

It's a shot of Diagon Alley and the Florish and Blotts... in the window is an advertisement for Gilderoy Lockhart's latest book entitled "Who Am I?" and there's a pic of Lockhart struggling in a straight jacket... quite funny! :D

I hadn't seen that. It sounds quite funny though.:D

I like the fact that they gave Hagrid alittle more credit, then in the book. That half giant does alot! He needs so kudos in the next few books!!!:D

Yea, you know, I cringe and cry! Can't help it. The ending is so sappy, but.... I like ... Ok, I'll admit it....I like HAGRID!!! Sob! It's true.

Well, anyway. Does anyone know what has happened to the Villian Appreciation Thread? It seems to be gone! How am I supposed to get my Jason and Alan fix?

I didn't like the ending either. Last time I went to see the movie I actually walked out right after Lucius' exit so that I wouldn't have to see the ending....Or maybe I just wanted to go after Lucius to comfort him... :D

Its gotta be a subconcious thing alqua :)

I get all bent out of shape when Hermione and Ron get all baffled with hormones at the end, for two reasons;

one: the hinting at the relationship doesnt start till book four
two: I like Ron :o

:D I heard about it and sat through the credits (ALL ALONE) to see the very end. I was rather annoyed when it only lasted about 2 seconds. ;)

Ha! Thank you, StarGazr! I'm going to fast forward to see that. Kenneth's scenes were just about my fav in the movie.. They were sooooo over the top! (Pssttt! I still cry at the ending...yea, I'm a sap! So sue me!!! ):p

Hagrid is great, even though the end wasn't like the original...it still gave Hagrid credit. Like it should have been!

Hagrid's wonderful:)

Ha, ha,,, Stargazr, I just saw that bit... Hee, hee.......that was worth sitting though the credits for! Thank you for that!

That made my day, I'll tell you what!

The ending was an abrupt shift of focus for me. Hagrid's return was nice and all but everyone applauding him? I'm sorry, but that was way overdone. We hadn't even seen him in the story since before Aragog. So I'd forgotten about him by the time the end came around. I also think that if the filmmakers had impressed upon us just how scary and foul Azkaban is, we could appreciate Hagrid's release much more. If a person saw the film and had not read the books they probably wondered why it was such a big deal. Guy gets out of prison, yes that's good news but think of that particular prison. It's very scary!

I think the focus should have been on the trio and not diverted from them. Have Hagrid's return and THEN Hermione's.

Welcome, UpintheSky!

You're right... Hagrid's return would have been better before Hermione's... I doubt most non-book-readers could even remember where Hagrid had been.

ElfTBD

Well, yeah, I suppose recognizing Hagrid was nice, but I agree with Upinthesky that the ending was way overdone...although, I was thinking that maybe that was done for the people who *gasp!* haven't read it....but, I think you're right...it wasn't emphasized about how nasty azkaban is, but hopefully, they'll make up for it in the next film.....(maybe by putting in the part where Hagrid acctually talks about Azkaban)...

ChianaWeasley
05-20-2003, 09:23 PM
Spot on! Hermione's return should have been after Hagrids, it would have been better. They portrayed it as 'Oh Hermione is back. (half hearted) yah.'

I'd like to see a standing applause for all those who were pertrified along with Hagrid. :D But again thats very unrealistic ;)

I so agree with all of you!

And how much did I love the ending after the credits? When me and two others were only ones staying at the theathre... :D

I loved the little ending thing after the credits when I finally got to stay through and see it...the first time I saw COS was a late show at a crappy local theater, and they stopped the moved as soon as the credits started! (I was so mad! )...the next time I saw it, I was able to see it (I went to a much better theater!)

I wonder if they'll do something like that for PoA...

I must say the little film add in after the credits is well worth waiting for    :D

I just sat through the credits to listen to the music while I was putting on my make-up one morning. Imagine my surprise when I saw Lockhart in a straight jacket in a mirror image ;) I had to rewind it to see it right... so I could read the title!! LOL... very amusing

I've just been watching the ending-it is soooo cool
I wish Lockhart(have I spelt his name wrong ?) always looked that silly. I don't know what Hermione see's in him. I mean he is soo ugly.I love to see lockhart in trouble because he's absolutely bad!!:D I loved that moment letting out what I thought of him.
I'm so glad I came onto this thread!!!!!!
To the maker of this thread:clap:

I agree owl, I never enjoyed Lockhart, he was the only character that ever truly annoyed me.

Aren't you lucky you can come here and discuss your feelings of Lockhart with us? ;) :)

(Totally OT)
You must see KB in Dead Again--scrumptious!

Terry
05-30-2003, 05:52 PM
Yes, yes, scrumptious!!!! Love Kenneth in ANYTHING!!! I've worn the KB scenes out on my DVD! Well, and those scenes with Alan, of course! And he plays a wonderful Lockheart. Played it exactly right. That's why he's noted for being such a great actor. He can play Hamlet and he can play Gilderoy! That's versatility!

(er, hmm, yes this is totally OT, too. Just had to stick up for KB!)

But I wish they had put that bit at the end of CoS in the movie. Where Lockheart was standing in the corner, confused, saying, "I was a professor? I bet I was a bit hopeless." Or something like that. In my opinion, they cut him out too early.

I read that he directs more than act. That may be a 'well duh' statement but I wasn't aware of that. He also seems to treasure a low profile, private lifestyle. Which is rare nowadays

I suppose I have seen Kenneth directing and staring in excellent movies.
Namely Henry V, Much Ado About Nothing, Loves Labours Lost and of course Potter.
But has he really been in much else ?

As I mentioned above--Dead Again. To anyone who hasn't seen it, I HIGHLY recommend it! It is his homage to 40s film noire.

I though KB was brilliant in Hamlet. I was delighted when I saw it in 02 because I knew he was going to be in CoS and I wanted to see what he could do--and he did beautifully!

<waves to everybody from CoE> Elwen told me to come over and aks my question to you HP experts. :) And I do hope it's the right thread.
So here it is.

Yesterday I was watching the part where Harry and Ron had drank the potion Hermione made and were they were transformed so that they could mingle with Draco. Draco lifts a pretty green box from a table and asks `Is this yours?`. They nod and Draco puts it into his pocket to look at the little box later.
I found this an intriguing scene so I checked out the book but found nothing about this box.
What was it?

Personally, I think it's just there to show how "bad" Draco is...they kind of make him out to be a clepto in the movie....

I agree-
I think I remember an interview with Tom Felton where he made it clear that was put in to show how he felt he deserved everything. But thinking of OOTP, I find how Draco is treated by his father, and Draco's subsequent behavior to be even more interesting.

I think Malfoy was just showing off that he was so rich.He thinks he should have everything in the world.
I'm not sure but I think Draco hesitates before even asking whether it was Crabbe's or Goyle's (really Harry and Ron in disguise).:)

I wouldn't think he'd bother to ask at all

It was a very intruiging little scene and I'm happy it did have a reason. :)
Yes, Draco is an interesting character. I´m looking forward what happens to him next. :)
