Can anyone tell me how Butterbeer is made?

Fleur
05-28-2003, 07:19 PM
That's an interesting question... I always imagined butterbeer like a butterscotch flavoured hot drink maybe with like a dash of whiskey or something

I'm sure there are many recipies on the internet, maybe we should make a list and see which one is the best?

Butter Beer Recipe

1.Root Beer
2.Butter
3.Cream
4.Butterscotch

Pour the root beer in a cup, and the butter & butterscotch into a a small bowl. Put the bowl of butter and butterscotch in the microwave and melt it.
Then put the root beer in the microwave, but not for long because you want it to be moderately warm, or it isn't fizzy and good anymore!
Pour some melted butter and butterscotch in the root beer but not too much! Then pour some cream (coffee cream) in. Then stir it all up. It might take a few tries to make it to your liking!
Serve in a traditional English Metal Tankard.

apparently! we can't even get root beer here...

I've added a bit of vanilla ice cream into my tankard and a tad bit of whiskey. I've left off the butterscotch but the traditional way is good too.

I wonder if you were to go into a pub(in Europe especially)
and ask for a butterbeer...I bet they have a drink now called butterbeer.

I wonder...

3) Butter
4) Cream

What's wrong with cloves? Except on ham, of course...:barf:

The thought of putting butter into a drink with either ice cream or root beer is also :barf: Though butterscotch sounds good!

Hey I like the Latte flavoured one! But then I'm a bit of a coffee addict. My fave flavour is Buttered Popcorn... mmmm....

I really want some Butterbeer now..... :p

I think it could originate from a magickal well of some sort...maybe where a fairie kingdom lives???

 I gave one of my good humored teachers a kipper flavoured one and told him it was marshmellow.

Have you tried mixing vanilla ice cream with rootbeer? It's quite good. It adds to the creamy taste as does the butter and butterscotch.

P.S. to Fleur: How could you like the buttered popcorn? those are the grosest ive tasted yet! Though, I haven't tasted many gross ones, I like the combinations of different flavours, they've made sundae smarties and if you mix some together (depending on the choice) it tastes really good!

They don't do them in those bags here... They look better than ours! they are really bad here, you get them in little boxes and they only have about 10 flavours and the only yukky one is tomato which doesnt even taste too bad because it's packed with sugar.

Buttered popcorn IS the best! But yeah water melon, :P and peanut butter! delish!

mmm.. coffee...

I saw the little bags when they first sold them in this part of the US, but now the tiny boxes are much more common. Our nephew got some in his Easter basket this year and I can report that the grass ones aren't that bad and the black pepper ones are so yummy I probably didn't leave any for our nephew. :o spouse got a sardine one but realized what it was before biting into it, so he put it back down on the dining room table... a few hours later, one of spouse's stepbrothers came over for Easter dinner, saw a jellybean on the table, and ate it.

Back on the original topic, at least one area bookstore is advertising Butterbeer as part of the release night festivities... of course, the shop most convenient for me will not have Butterbeer or appearances by live owls (a popular feature for release parties this time around; bet the Audubon Societies and wildlife rehab groups are sick of fielding requests for owl appearances by now).

Colli
05-31-2003, 11:21 PM
:) You can still find them in bags some places in the US... I found them at Border's a few months ago. :D

Buttered Toast and buttered popcorn make me :barf:

tomato?! I have only had the box kind a few times, theres anchovi, grass, booger, ear wax,dirt,puck...but nothing else interesting, just chery and watermelon. I didn't get tomato...hmm...I need to get one of the bags. There mostly at specialty candy distributors, or book stores.

I was in the Scholastic Store in New York city, and they had Harry Potter everywhere. I was in heaven! They had a bunch of candy there too. Potted mandrakes! I guess it was oreo cookie crumbles with some sort of lollipop. And there was Bertie botts, and chocolate frogs. Otherwise, thats about it. Everything else I've heard of is only sold in europe:(

They should do that with Charlie and the Chocolate factory! Ice cream that never melts, everlasting gobstobbers, eggs that when you suck thm you get a little baby sugary bird on your tongue at the end!

hehehe

And you know what else I've always wanted to try? Frobscottle!

There is a Wonka candy company in the US which does make Gobstoppers (not Everlasting, of course :(); I haven't had those, though, so can't tell you if they're any good.

I forgot to mention earlier that I have not yet seen Honeyduke's bars in my part of the US; but then we just got Chocolate Frogs relatively recently (many months after I first saw then in Ste. Foy, QC while buying my Snape action figure :)) so I suspect they'll turn up here eventually... though IMHO they're unlikely to be much good unless they're being imported from Europe. (Yes, I know there is good-quality American chocolate, but let's face it, it's much harder to find than the icky waxy candy bars in all our shops.)

Did you know that many of the women threw their infents into the rivers because they didn't want them to suffer under AMERICAN oppression.

My pumpkin juice will NEVER be an American thing!

Severus Snape

Like brewing a potion... making pumpkin juice takes time.

Take your pumkin and bake it whole in hot ashes. Then peel and chop your pumkin thinly. Boil the ingrediant with the broth of wildfowl or game meat. (tree rat is prefered but rabbit is just as good.) Season with Maple Syrup and the ground berries of the spice bush. Spice bush is a wild shrub that grows throughout the eastern woodlands. Spicebush berries aren't generally available in food stores, allspice has a similar flavor.

If you would like to know more... I would be glad to post it for you. :D

OK, Prof ;), you're on!

I might have access to all those ingredients (a friend's parents raise rabbits), but am not sure about the spicebush; do you know any other names for it (scientific or otherwise - my herbal medicine books tend to list every name each plant is known by)?

I thought almost immediately that pumpkin juice would likely taste nasty without some sort of sweetener; given that Rowling's wizards live in Europe (which sadly lacks real maple syrup) I guessed they would use honey. I hadn't thought of any other flavorings, but this does sound quite intriguing...

 Of course... They're not Cherokee Native Americans! *Shrugs* Honey is fine.

Just use Allspice :)

Sorry I didn't post this earlier... I've been writing:Severus Snape's first year at Hogwarts. (http://www.muggleinformer.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=186593#post186593) :)

Lets see... This pumkin juice is always served inside a fully cleaned pumkin (non-cooked) with a punch bowl arrangement.

If using a fresh pumkin (and you don't want to use the old ways)
Preheat oven to 350F. Place pumkin in a baking dish and roast until easily pierced with a knife, about 1 hour. Allow pumpkin to cool. Slice off top and scoop out innards . Clean pumpkin fibers from seeds and toss out the fibers. Toss seeds with oil and salt to taste. Spread out on a baking sheet and return to oven for 15 to 20 minutes, until crisp and golden. Reserve as a side snack.

Scrape pumpkin flesh from shell and mash, or puree in a blender if a smoother texture is desired. Place fresh pumkin in a saucepan and season with salt, pepper, syrup and spice berry (allspice) to taste. Gradually stir in enough broth to give soup a thicker or thinner consistency as you desire. Simmer over medium heat for about 5 minutes... until hot. Garnish the rim of your cup *carefully* with a thin slice of an apple or orange wedge. Serve the pumpkin seeds on a snack tray to your guests.

You will need:

1 small pumpkin (12 inches)
1 to 2 tablespoons peanut oil.
Salt and ground pepper
1 to 3 tablespoons Mayple Syrup... I called my mom and she said that Honey works good also.
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon ground dried spicebush berries or allspice.
3 to 4 cups chicken or beef broth.

Bilby - an endangered australian marsupial

Chocolate Bilby - In an endeavour to help protect the real Bilby - chocolate manufacturer Darrel Lea , created the chocolate Bilby to replace the chocolate rabbit (at easter time) with a part of all sales to go to Bilby conservation

The rabbit is a huge pest in australia and is one of the main reasons for the threat to the bilby

I have had the pleasure of eating Bertie Botts beans. And everytime I get grass, watermelon, chocolate pudding and mustard. The mustard one is actually quite good if you like mustard like me. I have had a chocolate frog too. When you open them it makes a croaking noise and it comes with a card too. I got Rowena Ravenclaw. Butterbeer sounds delicious. I remeber craving it while reading the third book. I have made butterbeer. Which tasted heavenly. It was Butterscotch, ice cream, milk and some other thing. I love collecting stuff form movies and books though. Have you ever had lord of the ring gummies? I used to be a big treakie and got all the star trek Voyager cast signatures. I even went to a convention. When I get obessed I get really obsessed. I also have viggo, steve irwen, harry. ron and some artist on my wall next to a big cow. ( don't ask about the cow).

If the result comes back that you do, it still isn't necessarily a death sentence. Last I checked, our admin Melkor was doing pretty well for someone who was supposed to have died a few years ago, so maybe you can PM him about this since he's been through it too.

I've heard before that squirrels are good to eat :) in these parts we mainly have the red squirrels that aren't much bigger than a chipmunk, but grey squirrels (a different species, about twice the size of the reds) are starting to migrate outward from the cities and I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up added to area hunters' To-Do lists though I doubt they'll ever be as popular here as turkey, deer or moose (the latter is so popular to hunt that it's said the hardest part is winning the lottery for a hunting permit). I don't hunt, but it's a traditional part of life here as in many parts of the US and more often than not the office holiday potluck includes at least one dish of venison.

Regarding the Bott's Beans: I liked the black pepper so much I probably didn't leave any in my nephew's Easter basket :o and found the grass not so bad... couldn't muster up my Gryffie courage enough to try the other weird flavors though, especially after hearing multiple horror stories about those sardine ones

oh no!:(  I'm sorry
im glad i dun have it that bad... normally when peeps go at others' moms they get all mad... well im like that but w/ my dad

My Grandma's a widow... but i dun feel the pain all that much, my grandpa died when my mom was 5. (heart attack)

Edit: I "mourn" over the most pathetic stuff... like this guy i've had a crush on since grade two:swoon: ... so of course, my life is great if you dun include my stupid girlish love-life

Talking about deaths... (wonderful subject:rolleyes:.) I'm kinda looking forward to seeing Harry himself die in the 7th Harry Potter book, that would be a change, having the main character die. But Harry annoys me

so i was thinking about that one. Harry's death and all. i know he's supposed to die. but i dont think j.k.r can do it. think of all the fans she'll piss off! and if she kills of 'ole voldie then shes pissed off the other 1/2 of the fans. i know one has to kill the other (nice little trick) but , i betcha they will both die, and piss everyone off. however, i don't really want to believe that. and im dying to know what tricks she got up her sleeve. there's got to be an alternate ending, something no one can see!

thats why i said fans... although i did say something about the other half being pissed off about the dark lord dying. (i think i said voldie?)

its just that theres got to be some way. these are the possabilities
1) harry dies
2) voldemort dies
3) they both die
4) the both live

theres got to be something else. im not happy with those!!

I know I know... im happy with them both dying... then i wont be pissed at all
if they both lived, ill be really pissed
and if only voldie died id be 1/2 and 1/2 (happy he died at least... get the evil out)
if only harry died id be 1/2 1/2... cause evil didnt get out of the way

you could also have it where Voldemort dies but Harry is tortured and is mentally ill for the rest of his life like the Longbottoms

this is true, although hopefully shes got something better than that. maybe harry joins the dark lord. hmm now thatd be fun, although i highly doubt she'd do it. its just, the dark side looks so much more fun. ::sighs::

I know one of them will end up dying in the end, or both(which is something im not happy about). Voldemort will die, theres no doubt about that.

It's a childrens book, or well...it started out as one, it will end like one. This isn't Lemony Snicket, its going to have a happy ending.

But Harry wont go to the dark side, and if he did. He'd have five seconds before Voldemort would fry him. He'd switch sides to go undercover for Albus dumbledore. but for no other reason.

And like you said in the car Avada, quoted from Hermione;

If we cant trust dumbledore, we cant trust anyone.

Maybe, there isnt a good side after all, Ron Harry and Hermione could be lingering on the line between both dark sides. There is no light side to battles, each have their causes. Both who says they are just?

Voldemort has his dark side, and his causes. Righteous

dumbledore has his dark side, and his causes. Righteous

Dissing Lemony Snicket? The Lemony Snicket?!

No,no,no! xKatiex you misunderstand me!

I love Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events.

I was simply comparing how he always has unhappy ending, to J.K. Rowling who until recently always has happy endings, and in a way she still does. Harry gets away safely from voldemort yet again, in SOUE that may not happen.

I no way would i EVER insult Lemony Snicket I assure you.

And if I do send me to Zoot's castle to become one of their own in the castle of anthrax!

walks around Hogsmead and finds a hidden trapdoor and goes in and helps herself to her stolen butterbeer... takes out the latest version of The Quibbler and notices that she has wandered into the Three Broomsticks storage room as one of the employees is towering over her...

Employer in a Filch-like raged voice: Ahhh, robbers, sick and tired of 'em, you're not goin' teh be let off easy, oh no... a friend o' yers'se come too, Phineas and I do believe... you aint gettin' off easy, oh no!

Katie smiles weakly, then the 'unknown emplyoer' grabs her by the collar of her robes and drags her away...

Katie jumps out of the way as he staggers in and runs to the unknown employee that got her in trouble...

Look at him! He's drunk! Do you remember selling him a firewhiskey? I didn't drink the butterbeer I stole, but he actually drank his and He's.... Eurgh!!!! Throwing up all over your floor!

The employee and Katie take him up to the Hospital Wing and he tells me he will 'Make sure he gets to the Manager about this straight away for further punishment...' bet he's in loads more trouble than I was! Katie skips off gleefully and makes her way over to Jonko's
