With only a little over a week to go, we've finally got some hard information to speculate over. Here's the transcript from Mugglenet:
Harry's bewilderment deepened with every step he took. What on earth were they doing in a house that looked like it belonged to the darkest of the wizards?
"Mrs. Weasley, what--?"
"Ron and Hermione will explain everything dear, I've really got to dash!" Mrs. Weasley whispered distractedly.
"There!", they had reached the second landing. "You're the door on the right, I'll call you when it's over," and she hurried downstairs again.

Harry crossed the dingy landing, turned the bedroom doorknob which was shaped like a serpent's head, and opened the door. He caught a brief glimpse of a gloomy, high ceilinged, twin-bedded room; then there was a loud twittering noise, followed by an even louder shriek and his vision was completely obscured by a large quantity of very bushy hair.

Hermione had thrown herself around onto him in a hug that nearly knocked him flat, while Ron's tiny owl, Pigwidgeon zoomed excitedly round and round their heads.
"Harry! Ron! He's here! Harry's here! We didn't hear you arrive! Oh, how are you? Are you all right? Have you been furious with us? I bet you have. I know our letters were useless, but we couldn't tell you anything. Dumbledore made us swear we wouldn't. Oh, we've got so much to tell you, and you've got to tell us, the Dementors! When we heard -- and that Ministry hearing, it's just outrageous! I've looked it all up! They can't expel you! They just can't! There's provision in the Decree for the Restriction of the Underage Sorcery for the use of magic in life threatening situations.
"Let him breath, Hermione!" said Ron, grinning, closing the door behind Harry. He seemed to have grown several more inches during their month apart, making him taller and more gangly looking than ever, though the long nose, bright red hair, and freckles were the same.

OK, so, what exactly has happened? It would seem that a Dementor has attacked Harry (possibly at home) and that he fended it off (with a patronus) and has been expelled for using magic outside of school. That's the background, but what about Dumbledore - why wouldn't he let Ron and Hermione tell Harry what was going on? And where are they? "The darkest of the wizards" makes it seem most like Voldy's house (as well as the doorknob that looks like a serpent), although the wording is a bit weird.

OK, here's my speculation: During the holidays, Hagrid went to find the giants, but was captured by Voldy. Hagrid is actually Harry's secret keeper, which is why no dark wizards have tried to attack Harry at home before (and it also possibly explains the "Keeper of Keys" title from PS). Under the influence of Veritaserum, Hagrid reveals where Harry lives (and by the end of the book I think Hagrid'll have died, unfortuantely), and Voldy, not wanting to simply kill Harry anymore, sends a Dementor after him. The Dementor attacks the Dursley's, and Harry defeats it with a Patronus (which is why he's lying on the ground in the garden at the start of the book). Harry gets arrested and expelled for underage magic, and gets taken to a wizard jail (but not Azkaban). Ron and Hermione send Harry letters, but Dumbledore, preparing a break-out plan, won't let them mention it in case Harry gives it away somehow. So Harry gets sprung by Dumbledore/the Weasley's, and they take him back to Godric's Hollow, which is where this part of the book takes place.

The reason's I think this: a) Harry's supposed to visit Godric's Hollow b) The speculation that Lily was related to Voldy/Slytherin (hence the "darkest of the wizards" bit) c) the Dursley's are going to have a bigger role in this one d) It's the only thing I can really think of that makes much sense...

EDIT: I have added the spoiler coding here so those who dont want to read it may avoid doing so- can all future post here that even remotely approach spoilers please code for it. If you dont know how - send me a PM- Amberion

That's basically what I was thinking, but you've taken it much further than I did. I do hope you're wrong about Hagrid dying, although there does seem to be many hints for this.

Great point about the Keeper of Keys!

Amberion - sorry about the spoiler warnings, but I didn't hink I'd need them seeing as how I but *major spoilers* in the title of the thread. Either way, it doesn't really matter.

And I just listened to the clip for the first time, and I definitely like the transcript better. The narrator is such a loser. One thing I did pick up though - at the end, it says that Harry and Ron had only been apart a month (makes them sound like a couple, doesn't it :D) so either this section takes place during the holidays, or Harry goes to school for a while before getting expelled/arrested...
