If they were alive, the situation would depend on whether they hadn't been killed by Moldy Voldy when he tried when Harry was one and stayed out in the open (ergo, Harry would know they were alive), or whether they stayed in hiding after Moldy Voldy attempted homicide and only recently reappeared (ergo, Harry didn't know they were alive), OR whether they had been really most sincerely dead and had come alive.
