In the D.A. it says that Harry teaches them to do a patronus, it says what a few look like too (I would say for an example but I'm lending off my book right now) If you were taght how to make a patronus, what would yours look like?

Mine would be a lion!!:D

Mine would probably be a lion, too. Lions are my favorite animals. :)

But I wonder, does a patronus have to take an animal form? Or could it be something else? I guess it probably does have to be an animal (or at least something animate) because it charges down dementors.

Also, we see Harry's patronus in action. The stag uses its antlers to charge/toss dementors. But we only see Hermione's patronus as a frolicking otter ... and I can't imagine how an otter would charge down dementors.

Don't know what mine would be, but I don't think form matters. I think what matters is how powerful the Patronus is, not the form it takes.

Mine would definately be either a horse or a unicorn. I started riding when I was very young and have loved them for as long as I can remember. I owned a beautiful Arabian gelding for over five years, and as cheesy as it sounds, he was one of my best friends.:) I would like to think that if I had a patronus, it would come back as him (or as a unicorn, the magical equivalent). Horses are such a huge part of my identity that I can't see it any other way. :)

Mine would probably be a cat, seeing as (And I hate to say this, 'cause I love horses, too) cats are my favorite animal and our family has only ever had cats as pets.

I know what it would look like too. It's would be an exact replica of my cat, Pinky, who I grew up with. He's dead now, but he meant a lot to me. :(

He had the perfect additude for a patronus, too. :D He would fight anything and was afraid of nothing. My ol' tomcat, with the hole in his right ear, and who was... big-boned. ;)

Hmm, thats a very good question. My Patronus would probably be something along the lines of a hawk or an eagle. I've always loved the sky and I think a powerful, majestic bird kind of represents who I am inside- free and independant.

I think that is what decides you Patronus. Not nessecarily your favourite animal, but the animal you yourself are most like. It would definitely be very interesting to find out. Someone should ask this question only changing it to Animagus. Now, that would be interesting to discover!

I suppose your patronus would take the same form as your daemon (linking to other books here- beware) seeing as I think your patronus shows a part of your soul in animal form. I once took a test that said my daemon was a wolf, when I was into Wicca, I've discovered through spiritual means that my spirit guide is also a wolf. Therefore, guess what I believe my patronus would be?

Perhaps maybe...

xKatiexBellx

cute:D
But I wonder, does a patronus have to take an animal form? Or could it be something else? I guess it probably does have to be an animal (or at least something animate) because it charges down dementors.

That would be interesting seeing a human patronus... hmm, I'd like to see a dementor patronus, that would be funny... a silvery dementor charging down a real one:rolleyes: I wounder if they can take the forms of magical animals too tho, like Blast-Ended Skrewts or Sphinxes...

Also, we see Harry's patronus in action. The stag uses its antlers to charge/toss dementors. But we only see Hermione's patronus as a frolicking otter ... and I can't imagine how an otter would charge down dementors.

Something tells me patronuses don't only run at dementors... the otter could do something, other than run at it, to attack...

Ravenclaw
07-29-2003, 02:08 AM
Yeah, good point, Katie.

I don't think of patronuses as tangible objects, but more like solid-looking ghosts. Perhaps Harry's stag charges at the dementors, horns down, but I only remember them backing away or being run over, the antlers having nothing to do with it. An otter, like Hermione's, might charge as well, snapping and biting (otters are normally friendly creatures from what I hear, but they do snap.)

And Cho's was a swan (I think). I can easily see a bird like that opening it's wide wing span and flapping, not to mention snapping at the dementor with that blasted beak. Swans are nasty creatures.

As I said before, I believe your patronus reflects a part of who you are at heart. Cho, for example, a beautiful graceful swan... but people forget how mean and arrogant swans are...

I dunno, perhaps I'm saying this because I didn't really like her in the end. She started out alright, but then she seemed so emotional, even for a girl, and so, well, I said it before, arrogant. I guess, in reality, she's not that mean. Just emotional. And arrogant. OK, I better stop now before I repeat myself again, not to mention contradict my entire arguement completely.

Hermione's otter shows her playful side, perhaps. Or maybe she's a good swimmer and no one knows it. lol. Harry's stag represents the part of himself he inherrited from his father. Stags are also proud, nobel and strong creatures, which I believe Harry might be (maybe not nobel, but strong).

I'm contradicting myself again, aren't I? Argh. OK, just forget I said anything.

I totally agree... when she kisses Harry I thought it was quite cute, yet she was acting quite cheesy, then... at the date, she acts like Harry's ruining her date, but Cho was really ruining Harry's date to me.

In the end i found she is quite a stuck up snob...

Colli
07-31-2003, 03:44 PM
:) Chiana, can you show me where in the books it says that about Patronuses? (Patroni?)

The point of the Patronus is to protect, which is why Prongs is Harry's Patronus. Prongs doesn't necessarily reflect Harry's "inner personality." The Harry Potter Lexicon defines it as "a silvery phantom shape, usually that of an animal, which is the embodiment of the positive thoughts of the caster. A Patronus will drive away Dementors. "

Hahaha... Wicca is always mis-portreyed in tv shows and Hollywood which I think is :nose: . Female empowerment? Guys are Wiccans too, it's not a girl thing. "Magicy stuff?" More like Magicky stuff... magick is like... well, more like prayer than anything else. Nothing so mystical, but it is a very spiritual religion and shares many common aspects and beliefs of other religions, such as Bhuddism. It is NOT satanism.
