Hello together!
Last night was the first time that I watched the Chamber of Secrets in German. I had thought I understood the original perfectly, but now I'm a little puzzled. Do the pixies, well, say anything in the English version? I must have missed that completely.
But, to get to the point: In the English original,
is Lucius Malfoy about to utter an Unforgivable Curse in the end??? :jawdrop: When Harry loses him his house elf? My friends and I jumped when we heard that, and it's not in the book.

 i've never noticed that... might have to rent the dvd...
although i doubt malfoy would perform an illegal curse in a corridor adjoining dumbledore's office somehow... sounds more like the kind of thing sirius would have done in the same position, but not malfoy. malfoy's clever, he knows not to get into trouble.

I certainly think it sounds like he's saying "Avada"!!! Although the subtitles don't show anything except that he's yelling, they don't always put every sound someone makes on there. :)

I agree that it seems totally out of character for Malfoy (which is why it doesn't happen in the book).
But it certainly sounds like he says "Avada...!" before Dobby stops him.

So, you think the movie-people messed up slightly, or did JKR know of this? Because I agree totally, Malfoy wouldn't, not in Book/movie II. Killing Harry in front of Dumbledore's office, honestly.
Or could there be more than one curse starting with "Avada..."?

I don't think the movie was designed for real fans who actaully have a basic understandig of the charecters. It was probably done to get a cheap thrill to anyone watchng.
I doubt more than one curse starts with Avada to be honest. I just get the feeling it is a *special* curse.
I'm pretty sure that Malfoy would have said "avada kedavra", but what stops him from finishing it ? Malfoy isn't afraid of dobby so why does he stop when dobby says that Malfoy will not harm harry potter ?
And another thing, seeing as they were in a corridor, wouldn't there be some other people who heard him utter the unforgivable curse? And if someone did hear them they would report malfoy to Dumbledore, but none of these things happen do they?

You see, Malfoy was actually glad to be rid of the meddlesome Dobby and was about to utter the Avada Thankya curse, which would have produced a bouquet of flowers and a rain of confetti for Harry. Dobby, too obsessed in his hero worship to let anyone else give Harry attention, wouldn’t stand for it and interfered before Malfoy could finish. This reminded Malfoy that he wasn’t really supposed to like Harry after all and so that’s why, combined with his embarrassment over getting knocked flat on his butt by a mere house elf, he stalked out without explaining what he’d actually been trying to do.
Or not. :p :D ;)

Lucius Malfoy was a nasty horrible man who treated his house-elf dreadfully. as it says in the book at some point, house elves have their own kind of magic (and it must be equally as powerful as a wizards). of course malfoy wouldn't have been scared of dobby when he was dobby's master, and he wasnt expecting dobby to suddenly be free to do as he wished.
upon realising dobby was free malfoy must have realised the elf would pobably bear him a bit of a grudge for treating him like dirt for however long dobby had been in servitude to the malfoys, and would have known dobby could perform special magics, even more so now he was free and under no obligation to uphold his masters name or obey his orders.
even moreso, to even think about attacking dobby's idol Sir Harry Potter would have made the elf mad - mad enough to think about breaking any ministry regulations about house elf magic and its proper use (if there are any), and mad enough to entertain the thought of attacking his much-hated ex-master.
malfoy probably realised this in the same instant he realised it wasnt a good idea to attack harry in a school corridor outside dumbledore's office, and a combination of them all made him stop abruptly and decide to just walk away.
after all, what else could he do?

OOOOOOOH! I FOUND IT!
Katie jumps up and down
Right when Dobby gets freed, right then! I turned it up REALLY loud and I heard him hiss, "Avada" and then Dobby stopped him!
OHMIGOSH! Malfoy almost kills Harry!
Stay calm, Katie, at least our dear Dobby saved him. And..... It's He-who-must-not-be-named's job / destiny to destroy Harry and the same with Harry. Harry will be harmed, but not killed --- yet.
Heck! Now I'm depressing myself! Let me rather leave!
