View Full Version : How do you feel about POA so far?

LuthienElentari

Ok, so I know that all of is are nervous about the third film. Or at least me. I know that I haven't seen the film ( Of course:rolleyes: ) but I still have my worries. For example:

Emma Watsons- The soft curls have to go, and sometimes I wish she'd take an acting class. But otherwise Emma Watson I'm not as worried about.

Rupert Grint: Whats to complain?

Daniel Radcliffe: His acting skills need to change if he's going to glorify the third film. But I must say he was a lot better in COS then SS. His acting skills are slowly getting better every film. I also think that his straight hair needs to go. Isn't it in the books that his hair is natuarally messy?

Good Decisions
____________

Emma Thompson :notworthy was the best decision for Trelwney, Excellent choice! I loved her in Much to Do about Nothing.

Having Hermione/Ron relation more obvious in the third film was a good choice. According to Rupert Grint Hermione/Ron are going to get along real well. But there are no actual kissing scenes. But I think that this was a good decision because it will make the yule ball soap opera with Ron/Hermione clearer.

Having Gary Oldman play Siruis Black was an excellent casting decision.

Changing director was the best decision made for these films.
Columbus had to go.

You're right, Columbas HAD to go, but I won't go into my Columbas rant...

I am awfully worried about Thelwis and Remus... Remus is my favourite character, and I have a perfect image of him in my mind, and if that's ruined, I wil be devastated... I mean we appear to have a moustache already.... :barf: Tom Selleck.... But I am DESPERATE to see a proper picture of Thelwis as Remus... Then maybe the whole idea of Remus Lupin being a movie character wont seem as surreal... It's weird enough reading articles on teletext and seeing "...Thewis who plays Professor Lupin..." That's too weird... :p

If they take out Remus and Sirius's embrace... Many people will be very mad indeed... Me included...

What else... Oh yes... The lack of wizard robes and the Muggle clothes situation... the RAINBOW belt and pink hoddie situation with golden brown curls... That's NOT Hermione... ok going off an another tangent here....

I miss Sean Biggerstaff already... *sigh*

I'm warming to the idea of Emma Thomson as Trelawny, I can just imagine her floating around in sequins and bangles! :D

I'm also warming to Oldman as Sirius. I know he can act, but I'll always be a bit weird about it until I see him act on screen...

Yes, I do love Rupert Grint, have to agree with you there Luthien! :D

The Knight Bus looks brilliant, but I'm only saying that because I've touched it, and watched it wobble around Borough Market :p

I'm generally really aprehensive about this film... PoA isn't just my favourite hp book, but my favourite book of all time... And if it's ruined... This book has a high place in many peoples' heart. PS and CoS aren't that loved, but PoA is... So the mexican bloke (forgotten his name... :o )messes it up... There's gonna be trouble! mahahaha!

We're due a trailer....

LuthienElentari
10-18-2003, 11:29 AM
Before I saw COS, I was a little worried. But I knew that if Columbus ruined it It wouldn't be that bad because COS is one of my least favorites. But with POA.............

Yes Fleurdelacour I too am very heistant towards Thewis :barf: .I too had a perfect image in my head of who I thoght he should look. But I need to see the trailer before I decide.

I also think that as always the props are amazing.
Your got to touch the night bus? I'm so jelous

I also hope that Buckbeak looks real. I hate it when you can tell that it was made digitally.

And yes we need are trailer!

I must confess that I haven't been a great fan of the first two movies and that's why I've been happy to see that this one seems to be going to a slightly different direction.

The fact that Emma Thompson has been cast has also increased my expectations. She may only have a small role, but she's a great actress and I'm sure she's going to make the most of it.

LuthienElentari
10-19-2003, 01:25 AM
I agree, I didn't feel like they understood the books very well. I like Lord of the Rings better because I think they put more time and effort into the film then Chris did. I also didn't like the fact that the books were more kid friendly then adult/ teenage friendly. As the books continue the characters become more complex and the stories become darker.Because the books become more adult then kid as they continue. But Thats just me :D

ChianaWeasley
10-19-2003, 11:23 AM
I don' think I'll be going to see the film this time. I honestly feel from what I've seen that they've lost their way while filiming. They've strayed from the book, I could be far from wrong, because i haven't seen it. But my sense of curiosity isn't really strong enough this time.

LuthienElentari
10-19-2003, 07:58 PM
I'm going to at least give the director a shot.

ChianaWeasley
10-19-2003, 09:49 PM
Well, yes that is true. Don't judge until you've seen what they're capable of. It's just, from the pictures I'm a bit worried...:o

LuthienElentari

Me too. I haven't been too impressed by the pictures I've seen. But I won't truly judge it until I see the trailer.

I miss Sean Biggerstaff already... *sigh* The one thing that prevents the movie from being great.:(

I'm really looking forward to it, and actually like most of the pictures I've seen so far.:p Except perhaps that Hermione is starting to look like a model in some of the shots. But I do like the pink jacket and the rainbow belt. (Why, yes it may have something to do with the fact that I used to own one;))

The cast sounds great, the sets look great (though I thought the ones Columbus used did too), and, um, I can't think of a third thing to round that phrase off nicely, but it all looks great!

Never had much of a problem with Columbus's version, though that may be because I saw the movies before reading the books. Anyway, even if I don't like it, I don't think it will ruin my enjoyment of the book, it will just be another version of the same story, though very different than I imagined. (Unless it turns into another Bakshi/Rankin Bass type thing, and what are the odds of that?)

It's getting late- I just mistook my scrollbar for the post button.

LuthienElentari

Yes, where art thou Biggerstaff?

alqua
10-21-2003, 07:00 AM
I don't think I'm going to miss Mr. Biggerstaff. I thought the quidditch scenes were the most boring parts of the first two movies, and Sean isn't really all that cute. :o

*ducks as objects of various size and shape are being thrown in her direction*

Fleurdelacour
10-21-2003, 04:51 PM
He's scottish :p

Oh, sorry, that's one thing that really annoys me... When people say for art thou, from Where for art thou Romeo. It isn't Juliet asking where Romeo is, she's asking why is he a Montague... Well thats what my english teacher said... sorry, it's a little thing of mine lol... :o

alqua
10-21-2003, 05:27 PM
But "where art thou" isn't the same as "where for art thou", is it?

Sorry about the off-topicness, but I'm actually very curious to know. :o

ChianaWeasley
10-21-2003, 05:34 PM
I have to disagree with the idea of the Quidditch scenes being boring, when i saw CoS the first time in the theatre, in the front row......HOLY COW!!!! I really thought I was flying, and the second movie's quidditch scene was even better!!!

I wish I could play quidditch :(
I'd finally beat them all at gym class!!! :p

LuthienElentari
10-21-2003, 10:41 PM
I'm so sorry if that made you mad. I actually didn't know that that was one of shakesperes lines, but anyway, I actually thought that the quidditch scences were ok. Maybe because I threw up durring the quidditch parts:confused: effected my satisfaction.

lithorose
10-22-2003, 04:06 AM
Watching (or reading about) Quidditch is kinda boring for me. Playing it, however, would be great fun!

Fleurdelacour
10-22-2003, 03:23 PM
Yeah, playing it would be great fun... Playing it with Ron would be great fun.. Aw, I got teary when he won... Anyway... Wrong book!

I like Quidditch in the books, but I do think Quidditch in the films is awful, not enough Wood ;) It just looks fake, and it's not gritty enough, just family friendly, which is just boring... But we're meant to get Harry swooning this year!

I'll actually ask my english teacher tomorrow... Is there a difference between where art thou and where for art thou... Mmmm......

Bellatrix_Lestrange
10-27-2003, 01:13 PM
Wherefore, as in, "O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?", is synonymous with why, as in "Why does the guy I just fell in love-at-first-sight with turn out to be the son of my father's archenemy?"

Where, as in "O brother, where art thou?", means exactly what it sounds like.

ChianaWeasley
10-27-2003, 08:21 PM
I go bonkers when they do the family friendly editions/versions of things. We did a spook house that was family fun gory, there IS no such thing!

Oh, if only Quidditch was a school sport, then I'd definately be invovled for that!

Watching the quidditch scene made you sick?
As in so bad i got sick sick?

or

the way the camera angles were made me dizzyingly sick?

I'm pleased at the thought of Emma Thompson. I'm fairly sure she can pull off a great Trelawny.

Fleurdelacour
10-28-2003, 08:21 AM
Ah, thanks for clearing that up Bellatrix! :)

I watched Bram Stroker's Dracula last night, Gary Oldman was in that with long hair... He looks odd... I cant put my finger on it, he just looks wrong, but he's a great actor...

I just watched the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and couldn't help thinking that Stuart Townsend might have made a good Sirius. Not that I have any major objections to Gary Oldman. He's a good actor.

Hey FleurD, that's the one with Keanu Reeves in it right? We had to watch that for literature last year.. all due respect to Keanu, but it just made me crack up listening to him talking with that British accent! Just seemed really funny to me.. maybe I'm just a bit strange, heh! :)

Well, I won't be seeing the PoA trailer then... I'm not that desperate...

Maybe they'll show it during Love Actually (a trailer for it was just on now! wow it looks so good! :D)

Yup it's the one with Keanu Reeves! Yeah it was weird with him (and theiving Winona!) speaking in British accents! I kept on expecting them to slip up mid sentance (ala Sean Austin :p)

I really want to see the trailer so I can get a feeling for the film at
least. If I hate the trailer then I probably won't see it, but if I think that it meets up to my standards or above then I'll see it. But not on the Loony Tunes film. I 'll just download it:D the power of the internet!

Gary Oldman is most likely going to be great! I was worried at first...esspecially when my sister told me he was Dracula! *sirius, and dracula...uhh..no match there dudes!*

Columbus did need to go, and as for Daniels acting ability's-he was only what 10 whe SS came out and he was like 12 when COS came out, i mean some kids are ntural at acting others take time-he is getting better with each film tho. and the 3rd one looks promising:)

must say tho-cant stand Tom Felton! :p

I have seen the trailer and it was brillient! I have confidence that Afonso will turn the Prisoner Of Azkaban trailer into everything that I want it to be. Though the guy that plays lupin gets on my nerves, I will have to deal with the fact that he's going to play lupin.

Yes, Daniel Radcliffe's skills are getting better, I still think that he's an ok actor

I´ve only sen bits of the trailer on TV but so far I like it. I´ve even started to consider to watch a HP movie after all. I didnt like what I had seen about PS and Cos so I didnt watch them, but for me this one looks way way better.

That trailer gives me more hope than the pictures ever did. And even though I found it humorous Hogwarts suddenly had a chorus, I couldn't get that bloody tune out of my head

I'm excited about the Dementor's, we were all worried about them looking like the Ring wraiths, but from the looks of it the new director is high and hell far gone from them. They look downright frightening like they're supposed to :D.

Draco seems alittle more poetic, with the crane and all ;)

Harry will do very well in this film I think, with three movies under his belt he's going to have improved his acting skills.

Frankly I'm excited for the film to come out in June, I never thought I'de say that... :)

Dumbledore Almighty!

I saw the trailer, and I actually liked it! I'm not nuts about the fact that there's a choir, seeing as how it's uncanon, but there's going to be a lot of that to get used to, and it DOES give the movie the right sort of feel, yes?

It almost makes it feel like one of those creepy Christmas movies. ;) It's going to be weird to watch in June.

On the upside, now I understand why a fanfic I read recently was talking about the Hogwarts choir singing with toads.

Colombus was okay. He did what an average director does...average directing. However, that's not what the Harry Potter film-series needs. Therefore a new director is much welcomed.

My big issue is Lupin my views on the casting for the part of Lupin can be expressed by two words:

What the?!

I needn't say anymore on that matter.

Hmm, what else...oh yes, cheers to the new Dumbledore although it is heartbreaking to see a man who played the part so well pass away.

*bows in memory of Richard Harris*

I am actually looking forward to this movie. I was severely disappointed with the first. The second was enjoyable but attracted so many Potter n00bs it made me sick.

Finally, the #1 problem with the Harry Potter movies:

Harry's eyes are GREEN not BLUE. They messed up bigtime here and I'm guessing they'll regret it later.

Yeah, and get this: he says he NEVER planned to direct any of the other movies. He says it was "always about PoA and nothing else". He then concluded by saying, "...I'm and extremely lazy person". That upset me. By the way, Richard Harris is dead. From the way you worded your post it looks as though you were unaware of this so I thought I'd let you know just in case. Also, yes there will be a 4th movie as well as a 5th, 6th, and 7th. The 4th is due Nov. of '05 and the 5th is due June of '07. The others' dates are unknown.

The man who directed Four Weddings and A Funeral is directing GoF (I still cant remember his name, but at least he is British!)... There's huge contraversy over it. Alledgedly its only going to be two hours long! Signed many a petition to over turn that, but I don't know what has happened regarding the length of the movie since then...

There's no reference to a choir... Apart from the Hogwarts song in the first but, but that was humourus... And "Something wicked this way comes..." That doesnt even sound Potter-esque... Sounds like something from Shakespere...

Flockman The Wise
11-19-2003, 04:49 PM
That preview was awesome. I've watched it several times in a row. I love the choir and the whole "something wicked this way comes". It is sad to say that when I see the preview, I don't even think of Harry Potter simply because it is so disimilar from the book. Oh well, hope it turns out alright.

I wouldn't worry too much about GoF being 2 hours lo– short. No way they could make sense of the book with that short a time limit. It's not possible and if done, the movie will be beyond horrible and I won't bother seeing it.

:D FleurD, it is something from Shakespeare, good call. :) It's one of the lines in the opening scene of Macbeth, one of the Weird Sisters says it. Weird Sisters... sounds like the chorus is in the wrong movie. ;)

I do like the chorus, but I can't imagine how they'd fit into the movie, and am guessing that that was only recorded for the trailer and soundtrack?

That's most likely that case as this trailer is pertaining to a movie which doesn't come out for another 6 months. A lot can happen during that time and a lot can chance. I do believe that the choir was MAINLY for trailer-based purposes, but I may be wrong.

Yay! It's G1M! :D ... Who lives near me (I think) but whom I've never met. :o

The toad choir thing was just too weird. It kind of distracted me from the rest of the stuff in the trailer.

Here's that bit from a fanfic I read. (And I read this before I saw the trailer, but it was probably written based on the trailer.):

"These here are singing toads. If you pet 'em jus' righ', they'll sing for you and sing with you, and then you can be in the Hogwarts choir. It's a requirement tha' you 'ave one to be in it."

... "Now, when I give you a singing toad, ye've gotta put him under yer right arm..." He held one up to demonstrate. "'E'll struggle a bit, but keep him in a firm grip. Don't squeeze, though, or 'e might pop!"

..."Now, ye've 'eard the sayin' 'fine as frog's hair'? Well, toad's hair is even finer. Yeh can' see it atall. But if yeh rub a singing toad the wrong way, yeh'll get a nasty case o' warts and 'e might bite. Rub from the head down, like this." Hagrid petted his toad gently.

Well, PoA is a rather dark book, but I think they reflect it well. While adding in the happiness thats in the book, it can't all be gloom and doom. I think the Sirius 'Wanted' posters were excellent in showing the deep side of fear the people feel in the book.

The toads were rather distracting, but, nonetheless an interesting touch...I do ponder on their purpose though :p

I just came back from a long break from all HP news, and what do I see? Hitler Lupin (nooooooo!!!!!) and Weirdo Draco (aaaaaghhh!!!). :D

They give me the chills... hopefully their acting will make up for their appearance! :p

Well, I must confess that you will not likely be disapointed when the film comes out and the acting is superb. considering how long and hard they've worked on this particular film

I keep hearing people say that they thought the dementor was a spider or a <insert strange object>, etc. No offense to those people, but I don't see how anyone could NOT realize what it is right away.

:) They were probably just distracted by everything else that was going on in the trailer. Not everyone thinks the same way, and not everyone hears everything the same way either. :)

I can't wait to see the rest of the Dementor :) They seem to have done a wonderful job on differing the creature to LoTR's Ring Wraith's(which was a large worry early on for most of the informer public). And just from the hand, it casts the fear that the characters felt in the third book. :)

Hmm..

You guys.. I've seen the trailer twice now on the big screen (both times before RotK).. and I'm really warming up to it. I'm not warming up to David Thewlis, but I'm definitely warming up to Gary Oldman as Sirius, and to the movie in general. :)

It's hard to see that trailer on the big screen and not grin really widely I think :)

Whats not to hate about Gary Oldman? he will be the perfect Sirius Black. Judging from the trailer Gary Oldman looks HOT!
