Killer Movie Reviews (http://www.killermoviereviews.com/main.php?nextlink=display&dId=447&cId=1&subLinks=)

A bit:
As for the new characters, Thewliss is suave and piquantly embodied as someone who just stepped out of the 1940s, from his tweed suit and clipped mustache, to the choice of music that he uses for his student’s to conjure by.

A bit:
This my friends, is what a Harry Potter film is supposed to look like.

David Thewlis did a good job as Lupin,

Only good?!

During rehearsals, Cuaron had long conversations with them about the pains and fears of being 13, and then had them write essays, connecting the lives of their characters to their own. "The essays were so beautiful, and so personal," Cuaron says. Well, most of them were. "I forgot to do mine," says Grint. "It was a bit embarrassing. Emma did, like, 20 pages!" Watson just sighs when she hears this. "It gets bigger and bigger every time he mentions it," she says. "First it was 10 pages, then it was 12 and now it's 20. In my defense, I did write quite a few pages, but I have big handwriting and I left really big spaces." Loved this. As if they were acting their characters in RL.

Snip-
But it is David Thewlis’s wonderfully smooth tutor, Professor Lupin, who unpicks the seam between the world of imagination and real adolescent anxieties in a film-stealing performance that uses nothing more sensational than words.

I just watched a show called Hot Ticket where they were reviewing PoA, along with other films... Both the reviewers had very good things to say about the film, and both of them said Thewlis was fantastic as Lupin. Also, one thing I thought was interesting was that they said they were really impressed by Emma Watson's performance as well, and that she's really improved since the last film.

JKR did a review for POA-

She said that "Afonso understands the book" and that he accidently "hints some events in books six and seven without meaning too" she also thought that the feel of the film felt like the spirit of the book. *throws confetti* (finally a HP film that stays true to the spirit of the book!)

Well, I think we should wait until after the movie comes out to praise or befoul the directors name. But I am ever hopeful my review will be praise, EXCEPT with the twins hair. That I would condemn to the depths of mordor if I could.

I know.....that long red hair....it's simply disrespectful to the Weasley name! *heads off to morder with the twins close behind*

Perhaps someone on the set will sneak up behind them with scissors...:p

Oh...I'm dying of suspense to go into POA spoilers thread...must control urges to look ahead....must not ruin-gah!!!!!
 :D

Alright, I will admit, the twins hair really wasn't as bad as it seemed in the photograph :o And the moustache didn't really bother me either, actually it suited the character Thewlis portrayed very well. :)

Ohh Lupin was only soso, the Proffessor Lupin i had in my mind however was more of a longer haired slightly darker version with no mustache. and i always pictured him as sort of a good prof. Snape, same style just good.

I liked the twins' hair. :)

I didn't like the moustache, though. A moustache might have been OK, but not that one. Yuck.

Ok, so you're all probably going to kill me *winces* but I --reallyhatedthemovie.

I mean, I loved the Prizoner of Azkaban book- it was my absolute favorite! but the movie just wasn't up to par.

I like to use this analogy (don't you just love analogies?):

The movie took the PoA book and stripped it down. They took away everything except the very very spine of it. They then took out several vertebrae, added in a couple plastic ones for support, and moved some of them around- which, nonetheless, left us with a very poor substitute for the original.

In other words, they only used the very very absolutely main plot (which is understandable due to time constraints), but cut out so much good stuff. What got me though was that they added stuff in(!!!!!!) as apposed to keep kewl details in, and switched things around. I could have punched the director for using the firebolt as an ending 1) because it just cremated the book and 2) made kind of an anti-climax for an ending. (not to mention a little on the corny side-- not that the first two movies weren't.)

But before you run after me with a chain saw, I will say that the movie in itself was pretty good to just sit back and watch. It still kept me into it- I wasn't drooling from the mouth or anything... but when I though about it I got really mad at how it turned out. The storyline didn't seem to be getting anywhere, and then the whole "Shrieking Shack" scene was awfully rushed.

I mean, I give credit to anyone who even tries to bring the books onto the big screen- mainly because they're so involved and difficult to convert, but also because the books are just soooo good!

*I think I'll hide now...*

Welcome!

You certainly don't have to hide for voicing your opinion.

And I happen to agree with you. I didn't hate the movie, but I was very disappointed. (I thought CoS was the best of the three movies so far.) I guess I didn't like the movie because PoA is my favorite HP book.

But, yeah, I agree. The movie wasn't as good as it could have been because of all the cuts they made.

They should have at least left in;

1. the explanation of why Lupin knew it was a map, and its creation

2. The letter from Sirius at the end, on the train, and PIGWIDGON!!!!

3. Why Harry's Patronus took the form of a Stag.

Chiana - I can only agree with your points. Was I the only one who, at various points in the film, was thinking 'I bet he does an Extended Edition of this on the DVD!'

Certain scenes seemed to end so suddenly, leaving so much out - at least, I HOPE there's an extended edition! PJ may have a lot to answer for, but at least we get a brilliant film at the end of it, even if it would have been too long for the cinema.

One can only hope...

I didn't hate the movie, in fact I liked it. However, I have no urge to see it again, which I find odd. It just felt like an entirely different thing than the HP that I know. Too dark in places, and really rushed at the end. I don't know how anyone unfamiliar with the books can figure out what's going on. But, hey, at least it didn't ruin the book for me! I can still read it and have the characters I imagine in it rather than the movie ones!

I´d love an extened version, but I highly doubt we will get it.

Yes, they should have explained more about the map. It doesnt look special in the movie, everyone knows its a map and how to work it (well except Snape) A few sentences would have been enough.

Its odd movie sirius is starting to replace my own image but Hermione has no chance. And I love sirius and didnt picture him like that at all.

But sirius yes. I had pictured him different but not better looking like many fanart I´ve seen. And defitintly with longer hair. D
