I'd been meaning to do this for quite some time and now that I have the time I might as well. So I hope you like it. I'll be posting chapter by chapter. Enjoy!!

A Lass’s Life at Hogwarts

Chapter 1: Who are you?

Another day, another year at Hogwarts I thought. This time I was a 3rd year and I wasn’t going to let anyone look down on me. When they say who are you? I’ll say I’m going to be the most powerful witch in the world. By the way, my name is Mariel Naberrie. I’m a 3rd year in Ravenclaw. My specialty power is levitation, in other words I can fly no broom needed. I have very long chestnut brown hair and blue eyes that change with my mood. They’re black when I perform powerful magic, white when I’m angry, and cerulean blue when I’m happy. My favorite classes are Charms, Divination, and Defense Against the Dark Arts. I have a snowy white owl named Emerall, notice his emerald eyes, a black cat named Gemini, and a white Aeothenon, a winged horse, named Celeste. I have a younger sister named Chloe, my father was in Slytherin as head boy and Quidditch captain for 3 years, and my mum was in Ravenclaw as head girl and Quidditch captain for 2 years. I’ve played Quidditch since I have a little girl and I’ve always been a Chaser. Now on with my story.

Ok so summer’s over. I’ve been with my best friend, Janine Ryan, all summer. She’s the same age as me and in the same house. She’s into Transfiguration, History of Magic, and Astronomy. Oh yeah she’s a chaser to. She’s just about the same size as me; she has shoulder length brown hair, very straight, and green eyes. We’re like twins almost it’s so cool!

But anyway, I’ve got a week before I need to take that long ride on the Hogwarts Express again. I got my letter not two days ago and I get to go to Diagon Alley today I’m so excited! There’s just something about that place that always sparks a smile on my face. I love seeing all the sweets outside the doorways, the feel of a new book, all of it! I’ve got to remember to stock up on my Quidditch supplies to. Well time to go pick up Janine. I love riding Celeste to Diagon alley. My dad built a stable for her outside and one near the village. I just finished my hair when Emerall flew into my window with a letter in his beak.

“Thanks buddy!” I said to him giving him a treat. It said that I needed to pick Janine up no later then 2:00 at her house.

I put my favorite baby blue ribbon at the end of my braid on; I got my favorite dress out of my closet, and found my school cloak. I wanted to wear my baby blue long sleeved dress with my turquoise corset. I had my house elf tie me up and then I was off. I took one more look in the mirror and straightened the emblem on my cloak.

“Another day, another year.” I said to myself.

“Mariel, Celeste’s ready for you.” Said my mum.

“Alright I’m going I’m going. Are you and dad following behind?” I asked.

“No we’ll go the usual way. We’ll meet you by the Quidditch shop.”

“Will do.” I said walking out the door.

I walked to the stable and saw my graceful Aeothenon. Celeste is a white, winged horse, which is very rare. They usually are brown or gray like a Hippogriff but she was completely different then a Hippogriff.

I mounted her and then I was off, flying high above the clouds. My dad taught me a secret route a long time ago. It’s a route no muggle knows about. Janine lived really close to me so it didn’t take much time to get to her manor.

I set Celeste down in her backyard and Janine came running. She hopped on behind me just like that.

“Ready to go so soon?” I asked.

“Yep come on I’m excited let’s get going!” she said.

“Ok then if you say so.” I said kicking Celeste off the ground.

Then we were off. That was one of many of our adventures that we were going to have.

“Hey have you heard who’s going to our school this year?” she asked me.

“No who is it?”

“Harry Potter is coming to Hogwarts!”

I nearly fell off my horse.

“Whoa hun calm down. Just because the most famous wizard in our realm is planning to attend our school doesn’t mean you need to fall off your horse.” Janine laughed as I caught my balance again.

I landed Celeste in my stable and gave her some carrots and put my hood up.

“Let’s get going. We’ve got a little walk to get to the Leaky Cauldron.” I said.

In my opinion the only bad part about going to Diagon Alley is that you have to pass a bunch of muggles. That’s the only way into our world, unless you want to go by floo powder but my parents don’t trust that.

Janine and I just walked through with our hoods up on our cloaks. Finally we made it to the pub. We got a glass of butter beer and had a chat with a few other classmates. Then we opened the back door, tapped the bricks, and in a few short seconds we were in Diagon Alley.

“Well first stop, Gringotts. I have to get some money for supplies.” I said.

“Sounds good to me.”

So we walked to Gringotts, the wizarding bank. We stopped in front of a goblin’s desk and handed him our keys.

“Ah Miss Naberrie, a withdrawal?” said the goblin.

“Yep, it’s that time of year again. Have my parents deposited?”

“Yes they have, please follow me.”

We followed the goblin to the cart and the cart stopped at my vault first.

“Vault 615, key please.” The vault opened and there was a pile of gold. I took out 40 galleons and 30 sickles.

“Every time we stop at your vault I’m always amazed at the money your parents give you.” said Janine.

My dad works the Ministry of Magic. He’s Cornelius Fudge’s right hand mostly. My mum is a spell book writer. Yeah most of the books the first year’s get, well those spells came from my mum’s head. Only she’s never recognized for it. She’s recognized for her unusual powers that I have myself. Like levitation, premonitions, and we can do magic with our hands. No wand needed. Crazy life I live.

“Next stop, vault 893.” Said the goblin.

So we loaded up into the cart and it took us to Janine’s vault. Her parents were both in the Ministry as officers. Kind of like muggle police only with wizards. When someone ever violates a wizard law they apprehend the thief. Not the greatest job but they’ve got the money to prove it. She took out 30 galleons and 10 sickles. The things I buy are more expensive besides I was going to treat her to some lunch anyway.

Then we were off to get our schoolbooks. We went to Flourish and Blotts to pick up two new books for two new subjects, Care of Magical Creatures and Divination. I’ve been looking forward to Divination all summer.

“Ah girls, 3rd year perhaps?” said the shopkeeper.

“Yes we need two copies of The Monster Book of Monsters and Unfogging the Future by Cassandra Valblatsky.” said Janine.

“Yes and I need a copy of Death Omens: What to Do When You Know the Worst Is Coming.” I said.

“Hmmmm Death Omens eh?” said a strange voice, “I’ve heard about you. You’re the one that sees the future aren’t you?”

“Ah Professor Trelawny. Stocking up?” said the shopkeeper.

“I shall be looking forward to having you in my class Miss Naberrie.”

“The pleasure I’m sure will be all mine.” I said. I’ve read about Professor Trelawny and I worship her. She is my favorite teacher of all time. I even signed up for Double Divination each term.

“Well now that you idol has left why don’t we get the rest of our books shall we?” said Janine snapping her fingers in front of my face.

“Oh sorry about that. Let’s see, Intermediate Transfiguration, The Standard Book of Spells: Grade Three, and oh yes everyone’s favorite Grade Three Potions.” I said.

“Let’s head over to the Apothecary next. My little brother seemed to have used all my potion vials for Flipendo practice.” Said Janine.

“All right. We’ve still got to stop at Madam Malkin’s Robes for All Occasions. I’m supposed to pick up a new cloak, even though my closet’s stocked full of them!” I said.

We stopped in the Apothecary and stocked up on a few ingredients and potion vials. Then we went next door so I could get my cloak. I had specific instructions for a crimson velvet cloak. All I ever wear is blue, maybe that’s why.

We were almost done. We still needed to stock up on owl treats and some stationery at the Owlery. We were getting pretty hungry so we stopped at the Leaky Cauldron again for some lunch.

“Come on let’s go get something to eat, my treat.” I said.

We had roasted chicken, cauldron cakes, butter beer, and some homemade bread. A few other people from our house ate with us. Then we went back to the Owlery and picked up our last items.

“Well you ready to get home?” I asked.

“Yep but I won’t be home home until next week remember.”

“I know what your saying. I miss Hogwarts so much! Well come on, Celeste’s getting impatient no doubt.”

So we walked back to the stable. I gave Celeste her carrots and he packed everything on her. Just then I remembered that we forgot to meet my parents in front of the Quidditch Shop. Oh well, I’ll send my mother a message. We can talk telepathically after all. It just gives us a headache after the first few times.

So that’s all there is so far. No big adventures yet. Being back at Hogwarts every year makes me feel like I have nothing to hide. I get to be myself. Not to mention I was as famous as Harry Potter at my school. I didn’t do anything either. My Quidditch reputation precedes me, not to mention my unusual powers. I can read people before they say a word, I can predict the future through the power of premonition, I can fly without a broom, and I can perform simple spells through my hands, no wand required. My reputation precedes me all right. Then why am I asked “Who are you?" every year?

Well here's chapter 2 for ya and I'll get right on to writing chapter 3!

Chapter 2: Hogwarts Express

Today was the day. I was finally able to meet Janine at the train station and take the ride on the Hogwarts Express. I’d been ready for a week. I was dressed and ready to go. My house elf had brought Celeste around and put the carriage on her. We loaded up my bags and then we went over my checklist. Finally my chance had come.

“What time is Janine meeting you at the station?” my mum asked.

“Not sure. She said she get us a cabin so she’ll be there earlier then me. You have my ticket right dad?”

“Yes of course. Now are you sure you have everything?” he asked.

“I’m sure, let’s go over my checklist though.” I whistled for Emerall to bring my checklist to my dad.

“Let’s see now, do you have your books?”

“Yep, Unfogging the Future and Death Omens: What to Do When You Know the Worst Is Coming for Divination, The Monster Book of Monsters for Care of Magical creatures and I still have my copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Intermediate Transfiguration and if you’d be so kind as to mail my other books to me for the next when the time comes.”

“Cauldron, potion ingredients, and potion vials?”

“Check, check, and check. I’ll be making random potions for other classes but I have potions in the winter.”

“Wand?”

“Of course, I always have that with me silly!”

“Hey I had to ask. Moving on now, owl treats, cage, Gemini’s pillow?”

“Check, check, and check.”

Ok to long to record but I had everything. Unfortunately to visit the station you have to dress down so no one suspects you. Only the prefects have to dress formidable to direct the first years onto the platform. So I dressed in a pair of jeans, my black boots, a baby blue shirt, and my jean jacket. I had my hair half way pulled back and put into a braid. Two things about me, my hair is always in some form of a braid and I always wear blue.

We got into the carriage and headed for the station. My father drove the carriage and inside was my mum, my sister, my house elf named Miriela, and myself. Thoughts were running widely through my mind every second we got closer to the station.

The over to the station was pretty long, it always is. My parents and sister took their robes off and charmed Miriela to look like a little kid. The spell wears off when she enters the barrier.

When we went inside we saw all of Janine’s family. Her little brother, Nick, house elf, and her parents were all there. Nick and Chloe started talking immediately along with my parents and Miriela.

“Come on let’s get out of here.” Said Janine.

The minute we walked through the barrier everyone else decided to follow. We said our goodbyes as our luggage was being loaded onto the train.

“Goodbye Chloe, you’re going to write me right?” I said hugging Chloe.

“Of course. I can’t wait to go to Hogwarts next year.” She said.

“Goodbye Mariel, we’ll miss you at home.” Said both my parents.

“Sorry but I won’t miss being at home. I’ll keep you updated every week.” I said, “Where’s Miriela? I can’t go without saying goodbye to her.

“Here I am my mistress.” Said Miriela popping out from my dad’s leg.

“You’ll be all right. Chloe will take good care of you I promise.”

“I know milady. You must right Merry.”

“I will.”

After we said goodbye to our families we got our same cabin on the train. Not to long after we got settled in the train started to leave.

“I’ve got a good feeling about this year. Don’t you?” I asked.

“Yeah kind of.”

The trolley came by and we stocked up on our favorites.

“Hmmm I’m buying this time. Let’s see. 6 chocolate frogs, 2 Bertie Bott’s, 4 Fizzi Whizzbees, and 2 Goblets of butterbeer.” I said to the lady.
“Make that 8 chocolate frogs. We’re in need of finishing our collection.” Said Janine laughing and looking at her Folia Magi.

We sat and talked until a strange boy came into our cabin.

“Oh sorry to disturb you but everywhere else is full. May I join you?” said the boy.

“Well of course. He seems polite enough doesn’t he Janine. I think we can spare some room.” I gave a little chuckle as he stumbled into our compartment.

“My name’s Deredian. Deredian Hopkins, Darry for short.”

“Well Deredian, my name is Mariel Naberrie and this is Janine Ryan.”

“Pleased to meet you.” He said.

“Oh the pleasure is all ours.” Said Janine who was staring at a chocolate frog card.

“You’re a third year in Gryffindor, chaser to.” I said.

“Yes I am. How did you know? I don’t believe we’ve met before.”

“If you knew anything about Mariel you wouldn’t be so surprised.”

“Janine shush. I can know a person before they say a word and your wearing your school robe so that doesn’t say much. We’re third years in Ravenclaw. Both chasers as well.”

“Oh well then that explains your reputation.”

“Ah so you have heard of me then?”

“Only from what I’ve heard. You can levitate your body, you’re a fabulous Quidditch player, you can do simple spells with your hands, and you can predict the future. Your as infamous as Harry Potter.”

“Things happen. I was chosen for this destiny, I didn’t ask for it.”

“Better change the subject lad.” Said Janine.

“No it’s fine. So Deredian Darry for short, tell me a little about yourself.”

“Oh sorry but it will have to wait. We’re almost there and you two need to change into your robes.”

“Ah, very well then. We will be seeing a lot more of each other I do believe.” I said.

“Yes I think we will.” He said walking out into the hallway.

“Well well well. Mariel your going to get yourself in trouble one of these days.” Said Janine closing the door.

“I know but I’m a big girl I can handle meself.” I said unpacking my robes.

“I know you can. Buggar! Why can’t I ever get the guys?!”

“You will soon enough.” I said giving a little chuckle.

“Wait a minute. I just remembered something. Isn’t your cousin Draco Malfoy coming to Hogwarts this year?” asked Janine.

“Yeah why?”

“Boy this is going to be one hell of a year.”

“Tell me about it.”

As soon as we were done putting our robes on we were finally stopped at the station. We found Deredian waiting for us outside our cabin.

“Hello there. Come to escort two beautiful witches off their train?” asked Janine.

“I’d be delighted.” Said Deredian.

We all got off the train together. I saw a swarm of first years running over to Hagrid, our gatekeeper.

“All right then firs’ years this way to the boats.” He said.

“Come on let’s get a good carriage before there aren’t any left.” I said.

Deredian stepped in front of us and opened the door and helped us in the carriage.

“Here you go maladies.” He said.

“She’s the milady, I’m just the sidekick.” Janine said pointing to me and laughing.

“Oh a gentleman. I don’t know Janine looks like he’s a keeper.” I said.

Everyone was in the carriages and then the horses took off. I loved riding over the field because I know every second I get closer and closer to my home. I mean I don’t have a problem with my family or anything it’s just that I feel safe here. Hogwarts is my sanctuary.

Here's chapter 3 just like I promised!
**********************************************

Chapter 3: Sorting Ceremony

Time for the long climb. We could see the first years riding across the water. The carriages stopped and Deredian helped us out. I took a look at the castle and a smile spread across my face.

“Come on Mariel! They’re leading us up to the castle.” Said Janine.

“I know I’m coming.” I said.

We climbed the long staircase to the front entrance. Just setting foot on the grounds again stirred something inside of me. Finally after many minutes of walking we made it and we took our places in the Great Hall. We were instructed, as upperclassmen, to put our wizarding hats on.

“I’ll come and see you guys tonight.” Said Deredian.

“How about we go to your tower instead.” I asked.

“Sure. I’ll meet you guys in front of the entrance after the feast.”

“See you there.” We said and sat at our usual place.

Not to long after we sat down Professor McGonagall brought the first years into the Hall. Almost every single jaw was dropped and every set of eyeballs was wide open.

“If you’d stand along here please.” Said Professor McGonagall, “Now when I call your name you’ll come up here and I will place the sorting hat on your head.” And like always the sorting hat busted into song.

“Oh you may not thing I'm pretty,
But don't judge by what you see,
I'll eat myself if you can find
A smarter hat than me.
You can keep your bowlers black,
your top hats sleek and tall,
For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
And I can cap them all.
There's nothing hidden in your head
The Sorting Hat can't see,
so try me on and I will tell you
where you ought to be.
You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart.
Their daring, nerve and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart;
You might in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil;
Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
If you've a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;
Or perhaps in Slytherin
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folk use any means
To achieve their ends.
So put me on! Don't be afraid!
And don't get in a flap!
You're in safe hands (though I have none)
For I'm a Thinking Cap!”

Once the sorting hat was finished singing, Professor McGonagall unfolded her list and started calling names from the bunch.

"Hannah Abbot!"

A small pink-faced girl with blonde pigtails made her way up to the stool. She put the hat on, letting it slip down over her eyes. There was a moment's silence then, "HUFFLEPUFF!"

The first table to the right cheered as Hannah hopped off the stool and ran over to take her seat.

“Hermione Granger!” said the Professor as the girl jerked her head to the side in fear.

“GRYFFINDOR!”

"Susan Bones!"

"HUFFLEPUFF!"

"Terry Boot!"

"RAVENCLAW!"

“Finally one in our house huh?” said Janine.

“It’s about time isn’t it.” I said

“Mandy Brocklehurst.”

“RAVENCLAW!”

“Lavender Brown.”

“GRYFFINDOR!”

“Millicent Bulstrode.”

“SLYTHERIN!”

“Ronald Weasley.”

“Ah another Weasley. I know just where to put you. GRYFFINDOR.” Yelled the hat as the red haired boy let out a sigh of relief.

“Vincent Crabbe.”

“SLYTHERIN!”

“Gregory Goyle…”

“SLYTHERIN!”

“Hey Mariel your cousin is up next.” Said Janine.

“Well we all know where he’s going.”

The hat had barely touched his head before yelling out Slytherin.

“Harry Potter.”

“Hmmm this should be interesting.” I said.

"Hmmm," whispered the hat. "Difficult. Very difficult. Plenty of courage, I see. Not a bad mind, either. There's talent, oh my, yes-- and a nice thirst to prove yourself, now that's interesting... So where shall I put you?"

“Not Slytherin, not Slytherin, not Slytherin!” whispered Harry.

"Not Slytherin, eh?" said the hat. "Are you sure? You could be great, you know, it's all here in your head, and Slytherin will help you on the way to greatness, no doubt about that-- no? Well if you're sure-- better be GRYFFINDOR!"

Cheers upon cheers came from the Gryffindor table. Deredian looked over at me and shrugged his shoulders. I shook my head with a smile on my face and turned back around to Janine. Once the sorting was over Professor Dumbledore stood up for an announcement.

"Just before we begin the feast, there are a few start of term announcements I wish to make. First years should note that the forest in the grounds is forbidden to all students. And a few of our older students would do well to remember this as well. I have also been asked by Mr. Filch, the caretaker, to remind you that no magic should be used between classes in the corridors. Quidditch trials will be held in the second week of term. Anyone interested in playing for their house teams should contact Madam Hooch. And finally, I must tell you that this year, the third floor corridor on the right hand side is out of bounds to everyone who does not wish to die a very painful death." Dumbledore paused, letting this all sink in. Then with on clap of Dumbledore’ hands, food magically appeared before everyone’s eyes.

“Finally my favorite part!” yelled Janine.

She likes to eat what can I say. The First of the Year Feast tends to always be the best. Every single piece of food that you can think of is usually laid out so beautifully on the tables.

Halfway through the feast the ghosts started to appear like the Bloody Baron or Sir Nicholas. Sir Nick started to scare the young Weasley with his little trick of being Nearly Headless.

After the feast the prefects led the first years to the dormitories. The older students are allowed to head back at their leisure. Janine and I left right away though. Deredian met us outside the Great Hall.

“Still up for a night meeting?” he asked.

“Nah I’m all for bed.” Said Janine following the rest of the group.

“What about you? I’d sure love to get to know you better.” He asked.

“Sure. I’m game.”

“I’ll see you tonight then.” He said and walked away.

Chapter 4 here!
**********************************************

*Chapter 4: A Midnight Stroll*

“Are you really going to sneak out your first day of school with a guy you just met?” asked Janine.

“Yeah. Hun I’ll be fine. You know the prefects don’t do watches on the first night?” I said, “Now go to sleep.”

“Fine I’ll be seeing you in the morning.”

“You know me.”

I put a pair of dark jeans on, a dark blue tank top, and I put my school cloak on. I crept down my dormitory stairs quiet as ever. The fire in the common room was barely blazing. Surprisingly I didn’t make a sound going out of the common room and our portal.

“Ah young Mistress. Avenging the dark so late an hour and on your first day of teaching?” said the elegant lady in our portal painting.

“Yes I am now shush before I get caught.” I said.

“Very well, farewell fair Mistress.”

The lady in the portrait went back to her writing and I left for the Gryffindor tower. Just so no one would see me I tucked my long braid behind my cloak and put my hood up.

I took my time walking up the Grand Staircases and when I touched the railing I had a premonition. It was of Deredian, standing outside his portal waiting, looking pretty nervous to.

“Well then I better hurry.” I thought to myself.

I took my wand out, tapped it on my head and said Winguardio Leviosum and instantly I floated up from my 4th floor to his 7th floor.

“Much better. God I hope Percy isn’t lurking about. Doubt it, he’s probably wandering around in the dungeons looking for first years.” I said.

I opened the door and peaked around the corner and sure enough Deredian was standing there nervous. I didn’t go around the corner just yet. I created some fog, kept my hood up, and then crept around the corner.

“Mariel? Is that you?” he asked apprehensively.

“Of course it’s me who else would it be?” I said laughing and removing my hood. He let out a sigh of relief.

“Do you always like to make an entrance?”

“Only when I want to show off.” I said putting a smile on my face.

“Come on let’s go into the courtyard before Filch starts his watch.” He said.

“Good idea.” And so we snuck out of the 7th floor.

“This will be less time consuming. Come here, hold onto me.” I said and said my levitating chant.

I jumped onto the railing and jumped down only instead of falling we floated down to the first level.

“My that’s an interesting power you have.” He said.

“It comes in handy. Shall we?”

Deredian led me over to a bench in the front courtyard by the fountain. I leaned over and dipped my hand in the water and turned the water from a sparkly silver to a deep blue that matched my eyes.

“Very impressive.” He said.

“Well let’s see what you can do? Go on.” I said.

He took out his wand and tapped it on one of the columns and instantly vines appeared with baby blue roses. He picked one and gave it to me.

“Why thank you Darry. Ok my turn.” I snapped my fingers and millions shooting stars appeared in the sky.

“Beautiful. Ok can we spend some time talking?” he said.

“Sure what do you want to talk about?” I said.

“Ok I’ll ask you a question and we’ll both answer it.” He said.

“Ok then I’ll ask first. Who’s your favorite Quidditch player and team? Mine is Catriona McCormack and Pride of Portree.” I said.

“That’s an easy one. Roderick Plumpton and Puddlemere United. Let’s see, favorite class? Mine has to be Defense Against the Dark Arts.”

“Oh by far Charms or Divination. Favorite spell? Mine is anything light related because you can do a lot with those. Not just Lumos.” Then I showed him an example but lighting the torches outside.

“Hmmmmm that’s difficult. Probably Rictasumpra. I like blowing things up,” he said with a giggle, “How about this, if you were faced with a Boggart what would you see?”

“I would see myself. I’m not afraid of anything but death. When faced with a Boggart I see only myself. What about you?”

“I would see the one I love because I’d be afraid to lose them. Boggarts aren’t really my favorite beast. I can handle anything else except He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named of course.”

“Even if I faced him I wouldn’t be afraid. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. Even if I’m related to the Malfoy’s and my father is Cornelius’s right hand doesn’t mean anything. I’d been looked down all my life. One day I’ll be the most powerful witch in our realm.”

“You don’t seem like the power hungry type to me. Well it’s getting late. Want me to walk you back to your dormitory?”

“I’d like that.” I said taking his arm.

He opened the doors for me and everything. He was such a gentleman.

“Let’s take the stairs this time.” He said with a grin.

“All right. Fine by me.”

We talked only for a short time because my tower was on the fourth floor.

“Well this is my exit.” I said.

“What classes do you have tomorrow?” he asked.

“Charms, Divination, Herbology, and History of Magic. You?”

“Defense Against the Dark Arts, Potions, Transfiguration, and looks like we’ll be having History of Magic together. Well I’ll see you at breakfast tomorrow. Good night Mariel.”

“Sweet dreams Deredian.” And he walked up the stairs, looking back at me frequently.

I waited until he was up a few floors before I said the password.

“Password Mistress?”

“Locomoto Mortis.”

“Correct. Sweet dreams Mistress.” Said the painting.

I walked up the stairs quietly trying not to wake anyone. The fire had long been out and with no light the midnight blue wallpaper made the room very dark. The beautiful thing about our common room is all the blue made it look very enchanted. Sometimes I spark things up a bit and I enchant the roses on the wall.

I finally made it to my dormitory and thankfully Janine was asleep. The dormitories were laid out with beds for each grade level. One for first years, second years, third years, so on and so forth. There were 7 other girls in my dormitory.

I quickly and quietly changed into my pajamas and snuck into my four-poster bed. The soft white silk sheets and the midnight blue comforter felt so good again. I put my hand behind my head and stared at the wooden ceiling. I waved my hand over the curtains of my bed and closed them. Then I shut my eyes and fell fast asleep. There was just something about Deredian.

Chapter 5: The Fall

I woke up the next morning with Janine staring in my face.

“Bloody hell woman! What in the blaze’s were you thinking?!” I yelled.

“Oh come on wake up I want details.” Janine said laughing and jumping on my bed.

“About last night?”

“Yes of course come on!”

“All right, all right! I’ll tell you at breakfast I promise.”

“Oh you little git. Well come on get dressed its time for our daily dilemmas.” She said throwing my school clothes on my bed.

I got dressed in record time. I barely had enough time to finish my braid. I wore the usual socks and shoes, my white button up blouse, my house tie, my gray skirt, and my school cloak that I carried.

For a beautiful fall day it was very warm outside. The sun was shining and the grass looked greener then it ever had looked.

The common room was full of lost first years. The prefects were trying to rush them out of the common room. The fire was out so I went over and rekindled the flames.

“Show off.” Said Janine with a smirk.

“I know but you still love me!” I said putting a huge grin on my face.

The room seemed to be getting quite full so Janine and I just walked out. We didn’t have much time to kill before breakfast so we just headed to the Great Hall.

“Hey Mariel we have to same classes again this year right?” Janine asked me.

“Yeah I’m pretty sure except you don’t have Divination all year like me. I think Darry has those classes with you. He’s only taking Divination for two terms.”

“Are you sure you want to stay with that crazy lady all year?”

“Janine now come on. You know me. The only way I can get my power to grow is if I learn from her”

“Whatever. Hey look there’s Harry Potter.”

Harry Potter was the new local celebrity. Now that he was going to our school I figured my reputation could use a friend like him.

“Hello there Harry and Ron Weasly right?”

“Yep.” Said the red headed boy.

“Sorry who are you?” asked Harry.

“I’m Mariel Naberrie and this is Janine Ryan. Third years in Ravenclaw. I just thought we’d introduce ourselves to the new local celebrity. By the way, you might want to eat breakfast quickly. Don’t want to be late for Transfiguration on the first day now do you?”

We walked off and Janine nudged me in my side.

“What was that all about?” she asked.

“What? I had two premonitions. The first was them being late for Transfiguration and the other was Snape calling him ‘the new local celebrity.’”

“If you say so. Hey look there’s Deredian.”

“Hello Mariel, did you sleep well?” he asked.

“Of course. Janine…erm…woke me up to suddenly though.” I said looking her only she was looking the other way whistling.

“What are you looking at me for?”

I shook my head and laughed.

“Well ladies, time for breakfast.”

Deredian escorted us to our seats and then walked to his table. The Great Hall was lit up with floating candles on the ceiling.

“Ok it’s breakfast I want details!” demanded Janine.

“Fine all right if you insist. Nothing happened between us anyway. I made my entrance,”

“Oh brother, you made your entrance? How badly did you scare the poor boy.” She said.

“Only enough for his wand at the ready.”

“Oh for cripe’s sake. Well go on continue.”

“Ok then he walked me out to the courtyard only I did my levitation trick and he was impressed. Then I dipped my hand in the fountain and turned it a different color, he topped it by making the vines on the columns have dark blue roses, then I made a few hundred shooting stars come out. That was all for the magic then we just sat and asked each other a few questions. We stayed out until midnight just talking. We have History of Magic with him.”
A few other girls from my dormitory gathered around to hear my story.

“Honestly Mariel when are you going to learn?” asked Sarah Nation another girl from my dormitory.

“What are you getting at Sarah?”

“Well I mean every year you seem to pick up a new guy.”

“You got a problem with that Sarah?” said Janine standing up looking real threatening.

“Janine calm yourself.” I said pulling her down.

“Sarah if you have a problem with my social life you might want to check your own problems first. Might I suggest owning a social life first you wretch! Come on Janine let’s go.” I said.

When we got up I floated a piece of toast my way and when we got to the door I turned around, snapped my fingers and set her goblet and plate on fire.

Deredian didn’t get up and follow us thankfully. We made our way to the second floor for Charms. We had some time to kill so we went into the Library.

“Who does that git think she is anyway?!” I yelled pacing back and forth.

“Calm down Mariel or your going to fling some books at Madam Pince.”

“I won’t calm down!” I yelled and sure enough a few books flung out of their shelves.

I turned around flustered and levitated them back to their shelves.

“Sorry about that Madam Pince.” I said.

“It’s quite all right deary.”

“Come on Mariel let’s get to Charms.” Janine said dragging me out of the Library Annex.

We walked in the classroom and took our usual seats.

“Welcome to your first Charms lesson of the year. For the newer students I am Professor Flitwick. Now today we will be learning the Retracting spell and the Glacius Spell. Can anyone tell me what these two spells do? Ah yes how about you Mariel.”

“The Retracting spell brings objects to you or you to the object and the Glacius spells puts out fires and freezes water.” I said.

“Very good. Now I have here four vases lined up on these shelves. Everyone come down here and stand in a line in front of me.”

Everyone rushed down to the front and Janine and I were shoved to the front.

Here's the 2nd part of Chapter 5
**********************************************

“Ok no wands this time. The pronunciation is Carpe Retractum. Now 1-2-3 Carpe Retractum. Good. Now Miss Naberrie if you’d be so kind. Wand at the ready. Now I want you call the vases to you. Careful we don’t want any breaking.”

I put my wand up and said the spell and called each vase to my hand smoothly. Then it was Janine’s turn. She did the same thing, very smoothly as well. Everyone went through the line and only 2 vases were broken. Professor Flitwick restored them with a Reparo spell though. We weren’t given any homework thank goodness because I knew that Herbology and History of Magic would have a couple assignments.

“On to Divination next right Mariel.” Asked Janine.

“Oh Divination for you two? Same here!” said Genevieve coming out of the same classroom.

“Genevieve I didn’t see you in there.” Said Janine.

“Janine hush. She was at the back of the line. Come on then let’s get going.”

Halfway up the tower we ran into Harry Potter.

“Hey Mariel.” He said.

“You were late for Transfiguration weren’t you?” I asked.

“Yeah how’d you know?” he asked.

“It’s my power. It’s my job to know. See you later Harry. Oh if you see Deredian tell him I said hello.”
Then we walked on. Janine and I seemed like it was no big deal talking to Harry. I mean our parents were high up in the Ministry so we’ve met a lot of famous witches and wizards.

“You do know that was THE Harry Potter right?” asked Genevieve with her eyes wide open.

“Yeah what about him?” I asked.

“You know the whole story, about you-know-who?” she asked.

“Oh come off it. His name is Lord Voldemort! I think we’re all mature enough to say his name aloud!” yelled Janine and she walked off.

“Wait up Janine. Now you’ve done it Genevieve.” I said.

“What did I do?” she said sitting on the steps.

“Nothing I’m just joking around. She just gets upset when people aren’t mature to say his real name. She thinks it’s rubbish that people live in fear of only a name.” I said. No one can be mad at Genevieve.

We finally made it to the Divination tower. It wasn’t like how I thought it was going to be. All we did were tea leaves. Thankfully I had no homework that day. Nothing really exciting happened that day. After Divination we went for some lunch. I wasn’t really hungry so I went out with my broom and flew around the towers until Herbology.

I loved flying on my broom. My parents always made it a point to let me have the best and latest broom. This year it a Nimbus 2000, next year it will be a Nimbus 2001, then after that I’ll be saving up for my Firebolt!

I saw Janine walking out with Naomi, Avril, Chris Katan, a 4th year from our house, and Dominic Megil, another 4th year from our house. I decided to have some fun. I flew over their heads and just as soon as I got far enough I stood up on my broom and floated down right in front of them.

“Showing off again Mariel?” said Dominic laughing.

“Yeah let’s see you stand up on your broom for an entire Quidditch game against Slytherin!” I yelled jumping off my broom.

I sent my broom flying towards the Ravenclaw tower and joined my friends. Herbology wasn’t bad either. All we really did was get our books and then Professor Sprout just classified a few plants we’d be using in the future.

After Herbology we walked inside the castle. Janine, Chris, and I took our favorite way into the castle. It was by Hagrid’s hut and a circle stone courtyard. It’s a bridge that leads right into the front courtyard Deredian took me to.

Before we crossed the bridge I saw Emerall flying towards me. He dropped a note in front of the bridge and flew off. I picked up the note and on the front it said to Mariel from Darry.

Dear Mariel,

I sent Emerall to tell you that I’ll meet you in the courtyard we were in last night. Can’t wait to see you.

Love Darry

“Oh so it’s love now eh?” asked Janine.

Janine and Chris walked ahead but I fell to my knees and dropped the note.

“Mariel are you ok?!” yelled Chris.

“Yeah I’m fine. Just a little dizzy spell that’s all.” I said as I got to my feet.

“Want me to carry you?” asked Chris.

“No I’m fine I promise.” I said.

Halfway on the bridge I started to feel lightheaded again and I fell over the side of the bridge into the water.

“Mariel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Janine yelled my name really loud.

Apparently Deredian heard it and came rushing over the bridge.

“Can you see her? Deredian you have to do something.”

Chris didn’t know how to swim so Deredian quickly took his robe off and dived over the edge into the lake after me. Even if it’s still summer weather that water was pretty cold.

I didn’t know what happened. The next thing I knew I saw Janine, Chris, Deredian, and Madame Pomfrey gawking over me.

“Good she’s coming around. That lake is freezing Miss Naberrie what on Earth were you thinking?!” said Madame Pomfrey.

“She didn’t just jump in, she fell.” Said Janine.

“Where am I?” I asked.

“Your in the hospital wing. You fell over on the bridge and Deredian saved you.” Said Janine.

“Sorry about that Mariel I can’t swim that well and Janine wouldn’t have been able to pull you up. Thankfully your friend here dived in after you.” Said Chris.

“Chris can you tell Professor Binns that Miss Naberrie won’t be attending class due to a sudden illness. Here take this.” Said Madame Pomfrey handing Chris a pass to excuse me.

“Now go on none of you should be late because of me.” I said, “I’ll meet you guys in front of the Quidditch field after class.”

“You sure your all right?” asked Deredian.

“I’ll be fine. Thank you again for saving me. I don’t know what went wrong.” I said.

Everyone else left but Madam Pomfrey came back and gave me some warm butter beer to try and get me warmer. I have no idea what had happened to me on the bridge. That’s never happened to me before.

Ok this isn't working out with me. I'm going to discontinue this fanfic and start anew. I'm going to write what happens in her 7th year, Harry's 5th year. I'm reading that book now and I can't concentrate and write about the other years. I'm only going to briefly explain what's happened between the years. So sorry if anyone really enjoyed this. I'll still explain things about Janine and Deredian.
