The uniforms have always appeared rather more muggly than the books describe. I personally have no problem that the kids are out of uniform this time out. It's not as it is in the book - but I don't think the robe uniforms, or indeed the robes that the rest of the wizarding world wear are essential to understanding we're in a different world.

What it does do for me is indicate that the comic bits about wizards interpretations of what to wear and how to wear muggle clothes at the quidditch world cup will not be part of GoF.

I don't mind it too much... I just wish Harry was shown wearing Dudley's old clothes rather then then something a kid with some money would wear.

I liked the uniforms this time round. My old school tie was identical to the Slytherin tie! :D

I´ve always thought the clothing was quite weird for wizards. The uniform in the fist film could be any mugle school. In that respect the movies dont work for me, wizards dress completly different, in robes, end of story :D (but thats a minor point, nothing to really complain for me)
And even JK herself seems a bit undecided how wizard dress exactly, when rons trainers are visible underneath the robes etc.

Well, I can understand the muggle born students wearing that kind of clothing out to Hosmeade...but what about wizard world students...

They make fun of muggle clothes, but the students dont were their robes around the house during the summer...so what do they wear?

It could be worse. I read an interview with Jason Isaacs where he said they wanted to dress him in a suit for CoS. A suit! It's only because he pushed for a more Lucius-y wardrobe that his costuming was right.

JKR doesn't do a good job keeping wizard garb separate from muggle clothes. She has wizards wearing robes and cloaks -- but then they have jumpers/sweaters. And wizards are supposed to be so unfamiliar with muggle clothes that Archie doesn't know that a women's nightgown is inappropriate -- but muggle-style clothes are implied elsewhere.

Of course, the kids are more likely to wear muggle clothes. (It even says so in the books.) But I think they took wearing muggle clothes to an extreme in PoA.

And supposedly (at least according to one quote I read) it was to make it more "real" so kids could identify with the clothes more. What? People like Harry Potter because it's not like the real world! They like all the fantasy stuff that keeps it different! The only thing that needs to be "real" are the emotions, because people do identify with those. How condescending to think kids need to see current real-world fashions to like a movie!

The clothes were okay, but I think Hermione and Harry were a little too hip for their own good. And my memory is getting fuzzy, but wasn't Lupin dressed Muggle style throughout the movie?

The costumes were one of the things I loved about the previous two movies, so it was a little disappointing to see them change things, but they did okay.

well they are teens now so I think it was a good idea. yes, sure it wan't in the book but it made it a little more real. I had No problem with it.

Well, I heard that the rumor for the clothing was that Cuaron wanted the characters to be more modern. If he had gone for approximate style, they'd be wearing early ninties clothes ::sniggers:: not very good on screen I dont think. :p

Lucius? In suit? He wouldn't be caught dead in a muggle suit!

yes Lupin wore muggle clothes throughout the movie :p

i don't know why he didn't dress like the other teachers

Remus can't afford clothes like the other teachers.

In the book, he wore very shabby robes and such. Not muggle clothing. That's another little blooper I guess.

A big blooper for me, but for all three films. Whats the whole point of wizards not knowing how to dress properly as a muggle, if a lot of them wear muggle clothes all the time and the Hogwarts uniform is a muggle inform with a cloak :D

I don't get Hermione's Pink hoodie and rainbow belt. That is SSOOOOOO not Hermione! Goodness.

I know it ruins the whole feeling. If you know what I mean. ;)

Even though the uniforms have always been a bit on the muggle side, that's never really been an issue with me. But when PoA came out I was rather annoyed at all the constant muggle dress. Honestly would Draco Malfoy ever be caught wearing muggle clothing?! Even though they are out at Hogsmeade and are allowed to wear whatever they choose, I really don't believe someone like Malfoy would wear Muggle clothing - ever.

Lucius in a suit?! I think I would've cried! Thank goodness Jason Isaacs pushed for a wardrobe change. ;)

xKatiexBellx, I completely agree with you regarding Hermione's clothing. When I first saw the commercial with her and Harry by the tree in the Forbidden Forest, I flipped. I couldn't believe they were having her wear a pink hoodie of all things! I could never see BookHermione wearing something like that. Not to mention that Harry's muggle wardrobe also looks wrong. Unless he took quite a bit of money from his vault and bought a new closet full of attire, he shouldn't be wearing things like that .... :p

Harrys clothes looked old enough for me :D

when i saw the first pics I thought they were wearing their private clothes during rehearsal. funny I was more annoyed at the mugglelike school uniform than on the plain muggle clothes.
But nevertheless for me they should have stuck to wizard clothes.

Hermione's wardrobe didn't bother me as much as the way her hair and teeth looked. It is put into huge detail that Hermione has big teeth and busy wild hair. Not this soft curls straight teeth rubbish! One of my favorite things about the Ron/Hermione relationship was the fact Ron liked Hermione even though she had big teeth and bushy hair! they have completely destroyed that aspect in their relationship! *GRRR*

IMHO Hermiones hair was ok in the first movies, they just should have kept it. I can understand, they didnt do the theeth tough. False theeth are more painful than a wig :D

This bothered me too. Especially during the time-turner scenes where futureHermione is scruntinizing herself and then says 'Is that how my hair really looks from behind?' or something like that.... I wanted to scream - NONONONO!!! They make this big deal about how it's supposed to be bushy and how Hermione is meant to be this quiet bookworm who hasn't really grown into herself yet, and in the movie she looks too good (for lack of a better word ;)).

Ah well ....

Mwahaha, well I'm sorry but this was one of my favorite lines from the whole film. :D Because seriously, I think most girls would be thinking the exact same thing in that situation (at least, I know I would!). ;)

But I do agree that Hermione is a bit too trendy and cute. They had her hair right in the first film, but it's gotten progressively more stylish. The biggest thing that bugged me was when Emma said in an interview, "Hermione is rock and roll, she's girl power!" I just thought.. umm, have you READ the books?? :p

I saw the same interview! I remember sitting on the couch thinking Is she high on something? just because Hermione punches Malfoy and runs out of divination it doesn't mean she's becoming a risky/girl power chick. For all we know she could have been PMSing!

Oh I loved the line as well ... thought it was a perfect for a girl to say, even Hermione. *grumble* ;) Nah, it was just because her hair was wrong and I think that ruined the moment in general for me ... but not the witty line. :)

I never saw that interview, but hearing it now I am thinking the same thing as you both ... As much as I liked Emma's portrayal in the film, her take on Hermione's motives are a little - off. That's the beauty of working from a book, if you've read it you have something to go off of.

Is it just me, or wouldn't Hermione be the type of girl who would go against the "Spice Phenomenon"? I mean, the concept would be right up there with...well...Veelas, who, Hermione is not particularly fond of. LOL

 Chiana

Hermione certainly doesnt bother too much about her appearance, but she would go for comfortable clothes I think.
