Ok here's the scoop:

her 3rd year, Harry's 1st year: The Sorceror's Stone

Oh yeah, during one of the Defense Against the Dark Arts lessons they face a Boggart. When Mariel sees the Boggart, she sees herself lying on the floor dead. this is what she says, "With my boggart you can't defeat it. You can't turn death into something funny." In stead she sets the Boggart on fire and storms out of the room. Sarah Nation , the snob, betrayed Mariel and Janine. She gave Mariel to Voldemort and Janine and Deredian went to rescue her. Well in the chamber in front of the mirror, Voldemort tortured her. In the end, before Harry and Deredian came (Janine stayed back with Hermione and Ron), Voldemort took a great amount of Mariel's blood so he could always keep an eye on her. (This comes back in the fourth book) And in this his power of being able to do Legilimency, whcih comes in handy in the next year. So yay, harry saves the day, him and Mariel are unconscious, and Deredian is the only one conscious after all of this.

her 4th year, Harry's 2nd year: The Chamber of Secrets

In this, no big deal. Mariel's little sister, Chloe is in her first year like Ginny. Harry and Mariel become closer friends. Her power that Voldemort gave her (and she doesn't know he gave it to her) is growing rapidly. That day when Harry finds the diary in the bathroom, both Harry and Mariel get sucked into the diary. That and all of three of them, Ron, Harry, and Mariel, go into the forest and of course Mariel is the one that fought off the spiders and flew out of there, not in the car. She's also the one that goes into the chamber with Harry, Ron, and Lockhart. She goes on with Harry and saves the day. When Riddle appears he recegnizes Mariel instantly from her mother and she becomes very violent. When the Basilisk appears, it wasn't commaned to hurt Mariel only Harry. So she stays with Riddle and Ginny. When he isn't looking she tries to attack him only she fails. She was set under the Imperius Curse. She breaks free only to become unconscious next to Ginny. Harry slays the Basilisk and Ginny comes back to life. Fawkes heals Harry and Harry carries Mariel out of the chamber. Oh yeah, Deredian and Mariel are offically a couple. Janine has yet to find someone lol.

her 5th year, Harry's 3rd year: The Prisoner of Azkaban

This took a little thinking instead of giving out the obvious. She becomes a Prefect and is somewhat of an assitant Quidditch Captain since Roger well isn't as good as her lol. Mariel's levitating power is overwhelming stong, like her mother's, she can talk telekinetically with Janine and Harry from far distances, and her being able to do Legilimency is taking a turn for the worst. She knew all along that Harry had the Marauder's Map. All four of them are good friends now. Hermione thinks of Mariel as a big sister. Harry can produce a Patronus, well Mariel could do that her 2nd year only because her father taught her. Her's is a large black panther and instead of a silver color her's is a bright cerulean blue, of course. As she grows she learns to do a Patronus through her hands instead of using her wand. Anywho, it's Mariel that originally finds Sirius Black. But she doesn't cover her trail, Harry follows her instantly taking Ron and Hermione with him. Pretty much everything else happens the like it was supposed to only Mariel tags along with Hermione and Harry. Only Sirius spots something strange inside of Mariel. Mariel passes all of her O.W.L.'s with top grades in every class. She decides to persue an Auror's career path.

her 6th year, Harry's 4th year: The Goblet of Fire

Ok this is an idea I've been waiting to write for a long time. First things first. Mariel's made the offical Quidditch Captain after Roger resigns and she finally gets her Apparating license. Mariel gets really mad when Cedric Diggory was choosen and she wasn't, and she later tells Harry (in the next book) that Cedric was her cousin. Mariel kind of rejects Hermione's whole S.P.E.W. campaign. She tells her that she treats her house elf like family!! For the Yule Ball, Mariel goes with Deredian of course. This is her dress:
http://img4.photobucket.com/albums/v29/child_of_zion/blodeuwedd-07.gif
and Janine's:
http://img4.photobucket.com/albums/v29/child_of_zion/blodeuwedd-01-ani.gif
Anywho, Janine ends up going with Lee Jordan and they start dating that night. Mariel and Janine are the life of the Party actually. Deredian gets a little mad when Mariel starts dancing with her cousins, Draco and Cedric. Cho and Mariel on the other hand become fast friends right away. As the last task draws nearer, Mariel becomes a lot more secretive, more then usual. When Harry and Cedric disappear in the maze and the whole fight between Voldemort, well Mariel will explain all of that in the next book, promise!!

her 7th year, Harry's 5th year: The Order of the Phoenix

I'm going to give out a litle information since I'm going to start writing when she arrives at Hogwarts. Turns out Mariel and her father were invited to be in the Order. Odd isn't it. Dumbledore figured a Ministry inside would be good, since her father works very closely in the Ministry. Her powers are very strong and Dumbledore is afraid that one slip up and she could turn evil very soon. Now she's a Prefect, Quidditch Captain, Head Girl, and an Animagus and she turns into an eagle. Janine and Deredian were getting suspicious when they didn't hear from Mariel all summer. Ok time to start writing. I'll post the first chapter soon!

Here's the first chapter just like I promised.

A Lass’s Life, Year 7
Chapter 1: I’m Back

It was a long ride to Hogwarts, or so it seemed to me. Our adventure started at the Black house. It was the day we were returning to our beloved school. Harry on the other hand didn’t seem so anxious as the rest of us were. Since the bloody Ministry already wanted him expelled, I had a feeling that they were going to be interfering to much this year. Quidditch seemed to be the only thing he was looking forward to. Everyone’s trunks were packed and loaded. I decided to walk down to Harry’s room to console him a little. I knocked on his door and he wouldn’t open it so I apparated into his room without his permission. He was still putting some things into his trunk.

“What do you want?” he said sternly.

“Harry it’s all right. I know every thought that’s run through your mind.” I said.

“How do you know what I’ve been thinking?” he turned around and stared me in the eyes.

“I can’t tell you that. You’ll learn about it later.” I said acting like I revealed something to important which I did.

“Great more secrets.”

I put my hands on his shoulders but he turned away.

“Then what do you want to know?” I asked sitting down on his bed.

“Anything that I can know.”

“Harry sit down. You’ve been really tense lately, I can tell. I’ve been really worried about you. No one else can relate to what you’ve gone through except me.”

“How would you know what I’ve gone through?!” yelled Harry as he stood up from the bed.

“You want to know some things so I’m going to tell you. Do you remember in your first year when Voldemort tortured me? Well he took some of my blood, actually a lot of my blood so he could keep track of me. Last year I went through everything that you went through.”

“No you didn’t. You can’t possibly understand.” He said staring at the wall.”

“Harry come here.”

I rolled up my sleeve on my left arm and took his hand.

“Put your hand on my forearm and say reveal.”

He said it and instantly the Dark Mark appeared on my arm.

“Voldemort turned me into a Death Eater last year. He casted a permanent locating spell on me. That day at the World Cup he found me and burned the Dark Mark on my arm. That day when you and Cedric vanished from Triwizard Maze, that was the day I helped kill Cedric, my own kin, and I almost killed you. I had no memory of it at all last year, until you fought against him. My memory returned to me.” I said staring the other way.

I covered up the mark on my arm once again.

“Mariel I had no idea.”

“No one does. Not even Janine or Deredian.”

“Come on dears, time to go!” said Mrs. Weasley knocking on the door.

“Want to give me a hand with this trunk?” asked Harry.

“Sure, anything for a friend.” I said levitating Harry’s trunk down the stairs.

“Thanks Mariel.”

Everyone gathered in the living room and were for a couple more people. Mad-eye was complaining loudly that Sturgis Podmore was late and that they’d have to leave without him. Tonks kept saying that he was going to come.

“I have to be escorted to the station?” said Harry with a confused look.

“Don’t worry Harry, I’ll keep an aerial look out for you.” I said turning into my Animagus form of an eagle.

“Thanks Mariel.” He said with an annoyed look.

Sirius changed into his form as well. Mrs. Weasley didn’t like the idea of him coming along but he did anyway. Once everyone started to leave I flew up in air and kept an eye out.

My father had left last week so he couldn’t see me to the station. My mum was going to drop Chloe off at the station since she didn’t like the idea of us plotting all of this.

When we arrived at the station, I stayed in my eagle form until we passed through the barrier. We arrived just in time to get on the train before it departed. I didn’t change back right away. Instead I landed on Draco Malfoy’s, my cousin, head and pecked at him a couple time. He instantly knew who I was and I flew off. I landed next to Harry and turned back into my human form.

“Having fun?” he asked but I simply smirked at him.

“Come on, we’d better get going. I need to get to the back of the train anyway.” I said.

“Oh that’s right, prefects need to meet with the Head Boy and Head Girl.” Piped up Hermione.

“Sorry mate, guess I forgot.” Said Ron getting on the train.

“It’s all right.” Said Harry being yet again disappointed.

I gave a smile, hopped on the train, and finally decided to reveal a little secret of mine. I’d been learning to speak to my friends using telekinesis.

“Harry can you hear me?”

“Mariel?”

“Yes it’s me. You wanted to know some of my secrets so here you go. I can use telekinesis to talk to you.”

“One more thing you’ll have to teach me.”

“Of course, I’ll try and send Ron and Hermione back to you before we get to Hogwarts.”

“Bye Mariel.”

“Bye Harry.”

“Mariel come on, the meeting can’t start without the Head Girl.” Said Sean, the Head Boy, who poked his head out of the cabin.

“All right I’m coming.” I said.

I walked into the compartment to find that the old and new prefects had already partaken to the snack bar.

“All right everyone, settle down. Now before we get started I’d like to see if everyone’s here. Starting with the fifth years. Ravenclaw first, Anthony Goldstein and Padma Patil?” I said.

The two raised their hands and Sean checked them off.

“In Gryffindor, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger?” I already knew they were here but had to check anyway.

“In Slytherin, Draco Malfoy and Pansy Parkinson?” he checked them off.

“And in Hufflepuff, Ernie Macmillan and Hannah Abbott?” they both stood up and said present. Draco laughed at them but stopped when his eyes met mine.

Once we knew everyone was there, we started the meeting. We covered the basics, patrol times, rules, demerits, so on and so forth.

“Hermione, Ron, come here real quick.” I said walking over to them.

“What’s up?” said Ron.

“You two can patrol the compartment that Harry and Ginny are in all right? You don’t have to really, just act like your doing something. I’ll be down there in a minute once everything’s under control.” I said.

“All right! Lazy first day on the job.” said Ron.

“Ron!” said Hermione loudly.

“What?! What have I done now?” he said.

Hermione just rolled her eyes and walked out of the compartment. I laughed at them and turned back around to get everything situated.

Five minutes later I strolled down to where Harry was. I saw Malfoy’s lot standing in front of their compartment.

“I seem to have touched a nerve,” said Malfoy in his usual voice, “Well, just watch yourself, Potter, because I’ll be dogging your footsteps in case you step out of line.”

I guess Hermione was yelling at him to get out. I tapped Malfoy’s shoulder with a roll of parchment.

“Oh Mariel, I didn’t see you there.” He said backing down.

“That’s Head Girl to you and if you step out of line, cousin, I’ll be sure to have your badge revoked like that!” I snapped my fingers at him and he took off.

“Thanks Mariel.” Said Hermione sitting down again.

“Room for one more? I don’t have much time. I ought to be “lurking” about the train anyway.”

“Sure.” Said Harry scooting over.

“You’re in Ravenclaw. You’re the girl with the powers.” Said Luna dropping her edition of The Quibbler.

“Yes to both.” I said levitating her edition back onto her lap and she went back to reading.

Ron leaned over to grab another Chocolate Frog, Neville was staring at his Mimbulus mimbletonia, and Harry was throwing nervous glances at Hermione and I. I could hear perfectly what he was thinking. He was thinking about what Sirius was like when he was at the station.

“Don’t worry Harry it’ll be all right. Sirius will be fine.” I said telekinetically.

He gave me a quick glance as to let me know that he heard me. No one really was talking much but as I noticed the time had gone by, I had to make my rounds.

“Well very sorry everyone but I believe I must go.” I said walking out of their compartment.

I closed the door but I did not leave entirely. I stood against the wall and talked to Harry for a minute.

“Harry what’s wrong?”

“Nothing, just a little upset I guess.”

“Throughout the year I’ll teach you how to talk to me like this. Hopefully that will help you a little.”

“Thanks.”

“I’ve got to get going. I’ll see you during the feast Harry.”

I walked down the hallway and made my way back to the prefect cabin. Deredian was standing outside the door.

“Mariel where have you been?!” He said in an angered tone of voice.

“I had to patrol the hallways.” A little white lie to my boyfriend oh well.

“I’ve been worried sick about you, with all the stuff that happened last year. Janine and I both haven’t seen you at all this summer.”

“I replied to your letters. Didn’t I say that I was gone the entire summer for a Ministry trip. My father was invited to New Zealand and I went with him. Chloe and my mum stayed behind.” I said. That was the excuse that Dumbledore told me to say to my friends. He knew Deredian and Janine were going to get suspicious. He pulled me in for a kiss and a hug.

*Here's the rest*

“I just missed you so much.” He said.

“I know I felt it. Come on the train’s almost there. We should go get ready. I have to ride with the Head Boy at the front of the line so I’ll meet you and Janine in front of my carriage ok?”

“I still don’t like you being Head Girl, to many rules. I barely liked you becoming a prefect and Quidditch captain for two years.”

“Yeah well it makes it easier for me to sneak out at nights to see you.”

“I know. I’ll see you outside.” I kissed him and then went back inside.

I was still in a pair of jeans, my favorite midnight blue tank top, and my jean jacket. So I walked into my private compartment and pulled my familiar pair of Ravenclaw school robes out of my trunk. I took my Head Girl badge off my jacket and placed it neatly on the windowsill. I didn’t feel like wearing everything so I put my black skirt on, my shoes and socks, my white blouse, I left my tie hang around my neck, I didn’t tuck in my blouse, and I just put my school robe on. I finished pulling my hair back into my long braid and put my badge on my robe.
“Mariel it’s time to get off the train come on.” Said Sean impatiently knocking on my cabin’s door.

“All right I’m coming!” I said. I pulled my amulet out of my pocket and put it on. I looked into the mirror and I saw a completely different person then I normally saw. Something just wasn’t right. I opened the door and saw Sean impatiently tapping his foot.

“Come on you.” I said following him off the train. Deredian and Janine were waiting outside my carriage. I hadn’t seen Janine since last year and she had changed a lot. Her hair was very long, she colored it blonde, and put black highlights in. She grew a little bit to. Deredian of course hadn’t changed at all. His hair was still a shaggy brown, still much taller then me, and still his muscular protective self.

“And where the hell have you been Mariel Lynn Naberrie?!” yelled Janine.

“Hun do you not know how to read. I replied to your letters ok! I was in New Zealand all summer.” I said grabbing her head and laughing at the same time.

“Come on Mariel you can snog with your boyfriend and beat your friend up at the castle.” Said Sean.

“Do you not know how to be patient for a minute? Well I’ll see you guys at the castle. Janine we have some catching up to do. As for you,” I said turning to Deredian, “I will see you very soon.” I kissed him and the hopped into my carriage. Deredian and Janine got into the carriage behind ours. Genevieve and Andrew, Darry’s best friend, got in the carriage with them.

I hadn’t noticed this before but there were fleshless horses standing in front of all the carriages. I didn’t bother asking Sean what they were mainly because I was tired and I’d had a long day. I remembered Hagrid talking about horses like these called Thestrals in his class once. I figured that’s what they were.

“Mariel you ok?” Sean asked me.

“Yeah I’m fine. Just day dreaming I guess.” I said.

I opened my journal that I started keeping my first year and started to write a little bit in it. I was just preoccupying myself I guess. Fifteen minutes later we passed through Hogsmeade. I looked up to see everyone’s favorite store Zonko’s Joke Shop and The Three Broomsticks then went back to my journal.
After we left Hogsmeade we passed by the lake. The same lake everyone swears that there is a real live Giant Squid living there. I doubt it, otherwise we all would’ve died in the Triwizard Challenge. The same challenge where Hermione, Roger Davies, Cho Chang, and I were tied down and held captive by the merpeople. The carriages stopped in front of the long staircase leading up to the school waking me up from my day dream.

“Can I help you out Mariel?” said Sean holding out his hand to me.

“Oh thanks.” I said.

Deredian, Janine, and I walked up the long staircase. I looked back and saw Harry still looking at the carriages. Could he see the horses too? We finally got to the castle and made our way to the Great Hall.

We all sat at our proper house tables and waited for Professor McGonagall to arrive with the first years.

“What do you expect from the looks of the new staff?” Janine asked.

“Well there’s a fat toad looking woman up there. Hagrid’s not there but that Grubby-Plank woman is. Don’t think she’ll be a problem but the fat woman will be no doubt. Just by the looks of her.” I said eyeing the new teacher.

“Wait a minute, that’s Dolores Umbridge! She works for Fudge.” Said Janine nearly hopping up from the bench.

“Good lord it is that wretch!” I said clenching my fists. I remembered her seeing her at the Ministry of Magic and at Harry’s hearing.

“Now Mariel calm down. We’re not to start any scenes just yet. Wait till tomorrow.” She said smirking at me.

Professor McGonagall finally entered through the double doors. Following her were a long line of scared looking first years. She stood them all in front of the stool where the sorting hat was placed. Suddenly the sorting hat opened it’s brim wide like a mouth and burst into song:

In time of old when I was new
And Hogwarts barely started
The Founders of our noble school
Thought never to be parted:
United by a common goal,
They had the selfsame yearning
To make the world’s best magic school
And pass along their learning.
“Together we will build and teach!”
The four good friends decided
And never did they dream that they
Might someday be divided,
For were there such friends anywhere
As Slytherin and Gryffindor?
Unless it was the second pair
Of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw?
So how could it have gone so wrong?
How could such friendship fail?
Why, I was there and so can tell
The whole sad, sorry tale.
Said Slytherin, “We’ll teach just those
Whose ancestry is purest.”
Said Ravenclaw, “We’ll teach those whose
Intelligence is surest.”
Said Gryffindor, “We’ll teach all those
With brave deeds to their name,”
Said Hufflepuff, “I’ll teach the lot,
And treat them just the same.”
These differences cause little strife
When they came to light,
For each of the four founders had
A House in which they might
Take only those they wanted, so,
For instance, Slytherin
Took only pure-blood wizards
Of great cunning, just like him,
And only those of sharpest mind
Were taught by Ravenclaw
While the bravest and the boldest
Went to daring Gryffindor
Good Hufflepuff, she took the rest.
And taught them all she knew,
Thus the Houses and their founders
Retained friendships firm and true.
So Hogwarts worked in harmony
For several happy years,
But then discord crept among us
Feeding on our faults and fears.
The Houses that, like pillars four,
Had once held up our school,
Now turned upon each other and,
Divided, sought to rule.
And for a while it seemed the school
Must meet an early end,
What with dueling and with fighting
And the clash of friend on friend
And at last there came a morning
When old Slytherin departed
And through the fighting then died out
He left us quite downhearted.
And never since the founders four
Were whittled down to three
Have the Houses been united
As they once were meant to be
And now the Sorting Hat is here
And you all know the score:
I sort you into Houses
Because that is what I’m for,
But this year I’ll go further,
Listen closely to my song:
Though condemned I am to split you
Still I worry that it’s wrong,
Though I must fulfill my duty
And must quarter every year
Still I wonder whether sorting m
May not bring the end I fear
Oh, know the peril, read the signs,
The warning history shows,
Four our Hogwarts is in danger
From external, deadly foes
And we must unite inside her
Or we’ll crumble from within
I have told you, I have warned you…
Let the Sorting now begin.

The hat became motionless and then the Great Hall broke into applause.

“It’s never done anything like that before has it?” Janine asked.

“No it hasn’t.” I said giving her a puzzling look.

Professor McGonagall pulled out a roll of parchment and began to read out names.

“Abercrombie, Euan.”

The terrified looking boy walked up, sat on the stool, and the hat yelled out “GRYFFINDOR!”

Slowly the line of first years dissipated. The last person called was Rose Zeller who went to Hufflepuff. Dumbledore then stood up and everyone awaited his speech.

“To our newcomers welcome! To our old hands – welcome back! There is a time for speech making, but this is not it. Tuck in!”

He sat down and the tables were then filled with heaps of food. I helped myself to a bowl of warm soup and some chicken. Janine on the other hand had a plate full of lamp, veal, pork, carrots, everything! She was very skinny but she has the appetite of a Giant.

*And the rest*

“Janine slow down! It’s only the start of the term. I know you’ll work all that off during Quidditch but slow down.” I laughed taking a sip of my sherry cola.

My mind was in many places but the Great Hall was not one of them. I was worried about what Deredian might think when I tell him where I’ve really been, what being Head Girl will to do me, the new staff, everything! After the feast was over Dumbledore stood up and began his speech.

“Well, now that we are all digesting another magnificent feast, I beg a few moments of your attention for the usual start-of-term notices. First years ought to know that the forest in the grounds is out of bounds to students – and a few of our older students ought to know by now too.”

“That’s for sure.” whispered Janine. I knew what she was talking about. One time we got really mad at Sarah Nation so we led her into the forest after class. We sent a few creatures chasing after her, which sent her out of the forest screaming for help. That was in our first year so now you know why she really dislikes Janine and I or any troublemaker for that instance.

“Mr. Filch, the caretaker, has asked me, for what he tells me is the four hundred and sixty-second time, to remind you all that magic is not permitted in corridors between classes, nor are a number of other things, all of which can be checked on the extensive list now fastened to Mr. Filch’s office door.

“We have two changes in the staffing this year. We are pleased to welcome back Professor Grubby-Plank, who will be taking Care of Magical Creature lessons; we are also delighted to introduce Professor Umbridge, or new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher.”

“Mariel did you…” said Janine.

“I know I heard.” I said not applauding but keeping my eyes fixed on her.

Dumbledore continued with his speech, “Tryouts for the House Quidditch teams will take place on the -”

Dumbledore broke off with Professor Umbridge with saying “Hem, hem,” very rudely. He backed down and let her make her speech.

“Thank you, Headmaster,” Professor Umbridge simpered, “for those kind words of welcome.”

She cleared her throat and continued on with making her speech.

“Well, it is lovely to be back at Hogwarts, I must say.” She smiled revealing her pointed teeth, “And to see such happy little faces looking back at me.” I kept my eyes fixed on her and accidentally clenched my fist.

“Mariel your hand!” Janine said grabbing my hand and relaxing my nerves.

“Thanks.” I said. When I get mad sometimes things happen and I can’t control them. I’ve almost killed a few garden gnomes with my bare hands and I wasn’t even touching them.

“I am very much looking forward to getting to know you all, and I’m sure we’ll be very good friends!”

Students exchanged odd looks at each other and she went on with her speech.

“The Ministry of Magic has always considered the education of young witches and wizards to be of vital importance. The rare gifts with which you were born may come to nothing if not nurtured and honed by careful instruction. The ancient skills unique to the Wizarding community must be passed down through the generations lest we lose them forever. The treasure trove of magical knowledge amassed by our ancestors must be guarded, replenished, and polished by those who have been called to the noble profession of teaching.”

She stopped a few times only to act as if she was the most important thing in the world. I, of course, could see right through the wench.

“Ever headmaster and headmistress of Hogwarts has brought something new to the weighty task of governing this historic school, and that is as it should be, for without progress for progress’s sake must be discouraged, for our tried and tested traditions often require no tinkering. A balance, then, between old and new, between permanence and change, between tradition and innovation…”
I started to lose interest in anything she had to say. I saw Harry’s eyes gaze over our table and towards Cho. I gave him a bored look. Janine and Naomi Wyatt, one of our prankster friends, were talking about their summer. I turned back to Umbridge to see what she was chattering about now.

“…because some changes will be for the better, while others will come, in the fullness of time, to be recognized as errors of judgment. Meanwhile, some old habits will be retained, and rightly so, whereas others, outmoded and outworn, must be abandoned. Let us move forward, then, into a new era of openness, effectiveness, and accountability, intent on preserving what ought to be preserved, perfecting what needs to be perfected, and pruning wherever we find practice that ought to be prohibited.” She finally sat down and Dumbledore rose to finish.

“Thank you very much, Professor Umbridge, that was most illuminating. Now – as I was saying, Quidditch tryouts will be held in the following couple of weeks. Be sure to check your Notice Boards to see when the tryouts are.”

My attention trailed off and I didn’t bother figuring out when Quidditch tryouts need to be held. We only needed one more chaser since Roger Davies was escorted off the team by me. Boy that was a laugh.

Dumbledore dismissed the school to head back to the dormitories. I asked Padma and Anthony to lead the first years back to the dormitory. I walked with Deredian and Janine instead. We just hung out a little in the Entrance Hall by the Ravenclaw hourglass. After a few minutes I started to get really tired and I had a little work to do to get ready for Quidditch and what not.

“Hey I’m going to head back to the common room. I’ve got a little planning to do for Quidditch and what not.” I said.

“Want me to walk you back?” asked Deredian.

“Sure. Janine you coming with?” I asked.

“Nah, I’ll be up there in a minute.” She said walking back to the Great Hall. Deredian and I walked to the fourth floor, him holding my hand of course.

“Well here’s my floor. I will see you tomorrow at breakfast ok?” I said.

“Yeah. Sweet dreams you.” He said hugging me and giving me a goodnight kiss.

I didn’t wait until he was around the corner to give the password.

“Password milady?” said the knight that stood in front of our doorway.

“Holyhead Harpies.” I said. It was my turn to make up the passwords and I choose my favorite Quidditch team.

“Ah Milady Naberrie, so good of you to come by.” The knight creaked and stepped aside revealing a set of stairs leading up to our common room.

I’ve been in every single house before I’d have to say ours is the most magical one. It’s a very open room that has a couple trophy cases but the walls are lined with bookcases. The fire was lit, this time a gold bronze color instead of the usual silver flame. Only a few older students were in the common room. My guess was that most of the first years were looking at the their new dormitories and unpacking.

Janine wasn’t there so I made my way up to my room. It’s tradition that the Head boy and Head girl receive their own separate rooms. That’s what I was looking for. I turned to the left and found a new set of stairs leading up to my room. It wasn’t a long set of stairs but a small spiral set. I got to my door and on it said Head Girl and underneath Mariel L. Naberrie.

When I opened it the room was much bigger then my bedroom back at my manor. It had a desk in the corner, my four-poster bed by the window, a dresser, and a closet. The walls were blue with roses that were enchanted to sparkle like water on the petals after a spring rain shower, the curtains were a silky bronze color, the sheets were a dark blue to match the walls, and the curtains around my bed matched the curtains by the window.

My trunk was laid at the foot of my bed and Gemini had found her favorite pillow in the corner. I took my robe off and put it on the hangar by the door and opened my trunk. My blue Quidditch robes laid on top of everything else. I pulled them out and hung the jacket on the hangar by my robe. I turned back and saw that my black Firebolt propped up against my trunk. Something was very different. I didn’t know what either.

I decided to unpack my trunk tomorrow. I pulled out a pair of white and baby blue striped pajama pants and a white tank top. I climbed underneath the sheets of my new bed and fell asleep instantly.

Chapter 2: A New Day, a New Year

I woke up the next morning with Gemini laying on top of me and Emerall hooting on my windowsill. I looked at my watch and it was 7:15 so I rolled myself out of my comfortable bed. I walked over to my mirror and used my wand to straighten my hair.

“Well a new day, a new year.” I said.

I quickly braided my hair in a half pony tail and began throwing clothes out of my trunk. I put my black socks, my black shoes, my black skirt, my white blouse and I rolled up the sleeves. I pulled one of my House ties out of my trunk and put it on, tied this time. I put my robe on half fastened and reached over for my badge on the windowsill that was now in Emerall’s mouth.

“Are you going to give that to me or are you going to eat it?” I asked him.

He dropped it right into my hand when I pulled out an Owl Treat and I put my badge on.

“There ya go boy.” I said giving him the owl treat.

I turned around and filled Gemini’s dishes with food and water and brought them over to my trunk for her. I picked up my black leather school bag and threw it over my shoulder and walked down to the common room.

The fire was lit and like usual there were scared looking first years wondering where exactly to go. Janine was sitting in her favorite chair waiting for me.

“What took you so long?” she asked.

“Overslept just a little I guess. Besides Emerall had a hold of my badge.” I said laughing pointing out the teeth marks.

“Ok come. Deredian is waiting for us outside. Avril came in and told me.” She said.

“Oh ok. Well let’s get going then.” I said walking out of the common room. I caught sight of the Notice Board that was looking pretty empty except for the Hogsmeade dates and an ad that Fred and George Weasley put up in just about every common room.

Gallons of Galleons!

Like to earn a little extra gold?
Contact Fred and George Weasley,
Gryffindor common room,

“I’ll just make a flyer during break for tryouts.” I thought to myself.

We walked out of the hole from our common room and sure enough Deredian was standing right there.

“Hey there sleepy head.” He said giving me a little kiss.

“Yeah that’s me.” I said.

“Ok people enough snogging for this morning. I want food!” Janine said pushing threw us. I laughed and only followed her.

We got to the Great Hall after grabbing Janine’s hood a few times to make her slow down. Harry, Ron, and Hermione followed us in.

“Hello there Harry. Sleep well?” I asked.

“Sort of. You?” He asked.

“Eh not to bad. Well I’ve got to get going. I’ll see you later Harry.”

“Bye Mariel.”

The minute Janine and I sat down, Professor Flitwick strutted up and down the tables passing out schedules.

“Ah Miss Naberrie, I can’t wait to have you in my N.E.W.T. level Charms.” He said.

“Thank you Professor.” I said.

I opened up the roll of parchment to reveal a slightly less complicated schedule. I only had Potions, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Charms, Transfiguration, Arithmancy, Divination, Ancient Runes, and Astronomy for the first month.

“Mariel are you still planning on becoming an Auror?” Janine asked.

“Yes I am. Why do you think I won’t be able to make it?” I said.

“No it’s not that it’s just that you’re going to have a really busy schedule. I know you’re the smartest girl in this entire school and you received top grades on your O.W.L.S’s and what not but come on.” She said.

“I know. I talked to Mad-Eye Moody last year and he said I’d make a pretty good Auror so hey I went for it. You sure you want to go into the undercover business like your parents?”

“Yeah why not. I mean I get to take a lot of the same classes with you. We have Defense Against the Dark Arts, Charms, and Transfiguration together. I don’t have to deal with another year with Snape since I didn’t make his N.E.W.T. class.”

“Yeah but you’ll be working with your parents won’t you?” I asked.

“Not for the whole time. I’ll be with the Ministry but it’s an undercover protection agency. Say someone’s going after someone, it’s my job to protect them. I wanted to be something like a Government agent but that didn’t work out.”

I laughed and went back to eating my breakfast. I dished up some scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast. I figured that all of my classes are N.E.W.T. classes I wouldn’t have lots of time but still more free time then my 5th year.

After breakfast I started to make my way to the dungeons. Just as I opened the door to Snape’s class, Naomi Wyatt called out my name.

“Hey Mariel you made Snape’s class to I see.” She said giving me a little slug in the arm.

“I do believe that I should be the one surprised. You made Professor Snape’s N.E.W.T. level class?” I asked a little shocked.

“Yep. Just because I’m a goof like Fred and George Weasley doesn’t mean I’m not smart. Believe it or not Potions is my best subject, mainly because my mum is the founder of the Apothecary in Diagon Alley. She makes all the potions for there and I help.” She said opening the door for me.

“Well this is a pleasant surprise. At least I have someone to clown around with.” I laughed.

“There will be nothing of the sort in this level Miss Naberrie.” Said a stern voice behind us, it was Professor Snape.

“Ah Professor, I meant that as a figure of speech, a joke.” I said.

“Be that as it may, take your seats you two.” He said and we did as he asked.

“Nice going Naberrie.” Said Naomi.
“I know.” I said with a little smirk as Snape began on a speech.

“Welcome. I have chosen a select few of you to be in what may be the hardest class in your years at Hogwarts, N.E.W.T. level Potions. It is my job to get you ready for the magic world that awaits you outside of Hogwarts. Now look to your left and you right. Very few of these people you see will not be graduating with you at the end of the year.” He said.

“Talk about being optimistic.” Said a nearby Gryffindor.

“This class is made up of a select few in each House and you will sit with your Houses. Gryffindor in the front left-hand corner, Hufflepuff in the front right-hand corner, Ravenclaw behind Gryffindor, and Slytherin behind Hufflepuff. Move to those seats now.” He ordered.

So we moved to those positions. Naomi and I sat by each other again. The class was differently arranged then in the past years. In the past years there had been desks for each individual and they were lined up in a circle around the room. For this year, railings blocked off each house in every corner of the room and there were two people per desk.

Naomi was staring at the lonely cauldron that sat on our desk while I on the other hand watched Snape’s beady little eyes scope the room.

“Now what you will be doing for the next three week is getting organized. You are to catalogue all of the most common potions, herbs, and ingredients used in every day life potions. You are to catalogue them alphabetically starting with herbs, crystals, animal ingredients, hard to find ingredients, and last but no least that hardest to get ingredients such as the horn of a Graphorn. Three full rolls of parchment on my desk three weeks from today. I would suggest going around the grounds and finding certain herbs like mushrooms. Use the library as well.”

After an excruciating lesson of Potions, I met up with Janine and Deredian for Defense Against the Dark Arts.

*Thanks hun!*

Chapter 3: Study Time

Well one day of lessons was over. I had cataloguing to do in Potions,
nothing in Charms, one full parchment of equations in Arithmancy, and interpretations in Ancient Runes. I had 3 hours until I needed to do something so I pulled out some parchment and quickly made a flyer for Quidditch tryouts.

Attention Ravenclaw House
Quidditch tryouts are here
I need one chaser, two beaters, and one keeper
If interested, be on the Quidditch Pitch at 3 o’clock

Ravenclaw Captain Mariel Naberrie

Now that task was completed, I changed into my swimsuit, put a blue tank top on, a silky black skirt that I tied around my waist, and my school cloak. As soon as I was finished, someone knocked on my door. It was Janine.

“Where are you off to now?” she said as I grabbed my broom.

“I’m going for a swim. Wanna come along?” I asked.

“You read my mind.” She said revealing her swimsuit as well.

“Grab your broom, we’ll take a detour while we’re at it.”

We walked down to the common room and I posted the flyer for tryouts.

“Who do you think is going to make it this year?” Janine asked.

“I don’t know. I’m hoping that Avril and Sandy will finally try out for beater. They’d be really good at it. As for chaser well they will have to be really good because they will be matching our standards.” I said and Janine gave a cocky smirk and a laugh.

“What about keeper?” she asked as we walked down the steps to the Entrance Hall.

“Well Ever since Davies cocked an attitude and I had to throw him off the team Adam Bradley left to so I’m hoping he’ll come back.” I said.

“But he was a beater the year after last. You’re hoping he’ll be keeper?”

“Yeah don’t you remember? He tried out for keeper our 3rd year. He was pretty good so maybe he’ll go for it now that Davies is gone.” I said opening the door to a nearby courtyard.

“Yep. Come on, let’s head for the lake.”

We mounted our brooms and flew around the castle for a while. Janine was wearing a white shirt and a pair of black pants so it was easy for her to fly. Me on the other hand wasn’t too bad at flying in a skirt. I led her around some of the towers and finally touched down on the shore to the lake. I took my cloak and tank top off and waited for Janine.

“Hey you want to do some deep lake diving?” she said laughing.

“Sure why not. Bubble head charm?” I asked.

“Ok then.”

We put bubblehead charms on ourselves and dove right in. I slowly followed after.

“Mariel are you coming any time soon?”

“Oh…what? Sorry. Yeah I’m coming.”

Just as we were about to enter the water Professor McGonagall stopped us.

“Miss Naberrie, I’m afraid that you are needed in Professor Dumbledore’s office right away.” She said as if she had come out of nowhere.

“Of course.” I said looking back at Janine.

“I’ll wait for you in the common room.” She replied taking her Bubble Head off.

I snapped my summoned my robe to me and put it on. I walked towards her and picked up my broom. Janine was slowly taking her time to get her things ready. As we crossed the bridge and into the Great Hall I saw Harry and Ron sitting on the steps trading Wizard Cards. Harry looked up from their Folio and saw me. I had no idea what was doing on so I gave him a look saying “Nothing’s wrong.” When I entered Dumbeldore’s office I saw Professor Umbridge was sitting in a chair facing his desk.

“Ah Miss Naberrie. I’d like you to meet Professor Umbridge.” Said Professor Dumbledore.
“Pleasure I’m sure.” I said not looking at all excited.

“Ah so this is the infamous Mariel Naberrie that I’ve heard so much about.” She reached out to shake my hand and instantly I had a premonition. Harry was in detention with Umbridge breathing down his neck. It looked like he was doing lines but what he was writing was being driven into the back of his hand.

“Mariel what did you see?” asked Dumbledore who was quite aware of my powers.

“Just the Ministry of Magic headquarters.” I said lying.

“Oh yes I was there yesterday to pick up a few things Cornelius had for me. Magnificent power you have there my dear.” Said Umbridge.

“Yes. Professor may I ask what this is all about?” I said turning away from Umbridge but she interrupted before Dumbledore had a chance to speak.

“In light of recent summer events we of the Ministry would like to ask you a few questions.” She said whipping out a notebook and a quill.

“To an extent yes. What would you like to know?” I said making myself comfortable in a nearby chair. Dumbledore sat back down and McGonagall walked over and stood next to his chair.

“Now, did you spend most of your summer with Harry Potter?”

“No my parents forbade me to speak with him until I got to school. They believed every word about him in the Daily Prophet.”

“Did you believe what was written about him?”

“Innocent until proven guilty is my theory on this matter.”

“You didn’t answer my question.” She said sternly.

“Is this an interview or an interrogation?” I asked.

She didn’t say a word.

“I do believe I am finished answering your “questions”. Now if you’ll excuse me I have some homework to take care of. Headmaster, Professors.”

I picked my broom up and walked out his office. Dumbledore agreed with me, that much I could tell. As I walked back to the common room I bumped into Harry, literally. I felt the searing pain I saw Umbridge forcing on him in my hand.

“Are you all right Mariel?” he asked.

“No. You have detention with Umbridge don’t you?” I asked.

“Yeah how did you know?” he asked.

“Tell Ron you’ll meet him back in the common room or at dinner.”

He did and then he followed me to an empty classroom.

“What’s wrong?” he asked.

MyD8rk3stF3ar5

“Umbridge. She wanted to ask me about you and if I had any ties to you or something like that. She shook my hand and I had a painful premonition of you in detention with her.” I said showing him the back of my right hand. It was all red.

“What did you see?”

“She made you do lines and she has this quill that cuts the words into the back of your hand.”

“I’m not going to put up with her calling me a liar!” he said slamming his fist into a desk.

“Reparo.” I said waving my hand over the broken desk.

“Your stronger then I thought.” I said looking at his red knuckles.

“It helps when you have Dudley as your cousin. Look, you had that premonition for a reason but I don’t care about that. What else did she want to know about us?” he asked.

“She asked if I believed what they said about you in the Daily Prophet. I said that my theory was ‘innocent until proven guilty.’ She wanted to know if I talked to you or saw you all summer. I lied and said that my parents forbade me to.”

“Dumbledore knew you lied then.”

“Of course he did. Do you think he wants us exposed to the Ministry?”

“Umbridge works for the Ministry?” he asked looking confused.
“Indirectly I suppose. Look I need to get back to the common room. Just send Gemini or Emerall over to me if you need something. I’ll start teaching you how to talk to me telekinetically this weekend. I’m afraid this year is going to take a turn for the worst.”

“Take care Mariel.” I left for the common room. Harry slowly walked behind me. He was angry and it was very obvious what he was thinking.

* * *

I walked into the portal hole to the common room to see Genevieve and Janine talking on the couch.

“Janine can I see you in my room for a minute please?”

“Sure.”

We walked up the staircase to my room, went inside, and I threw all my stuff down in disgust.

“What did Dumbledore want?”

“Not Dumbledore, Umbridge wanted to interrogate me.”

I told her everything and by the end of it, she had the same disgusted look.

“What did Harry say?” she asked.

“He didn’t say much. He punched a desk.”

“That bad huh?”

“Yeah. I don’t know what we’re going to do. The Ministry’s going to find out about everything sooner or later and they’ll mob him to death no doubt.” I had to be careful about what I said to her. I wasn’t allowed to tell her or Deredian about the Order.

It was about time for dinner when we finished arguing over how stupid Umbridge was. I changed out of my swimsuit and put my school clothes back on. I braided my hair in long pigtails that came around to the front.

I walked with Janine and Deredian to the Great Hall. The ceiling had the usual candle lit sky for show. Almost everyone ate in silence. The first years were jabbering about how much homework they have or how their Professors are so mean. I clearly noticed the look on Harry’s face. I was thinking the same things. I had to do something to calm both him and me down to think of a way.

That night when everyone had already gone to sleep I set a circle of black candles on my floor and lit them. I pulled out a spell book my mum wrote for me that had some dark magick in it. I looked for a relaxing spell but I didn’t find much. Then I came across a summoning spell to summon someone from the other side. I hadn’t talked to Cedric in awhile so I thought hey why not. I took out my wand and levitated it for a while to see if I was calm enough to do the spell. Then I said the spell.

Cedric Diggory I call upon you
Cross over the great divide
I call to you for help and aide
Hear my cry, hear my plea

I said the spell three times and finally a cloud of red smoke appeared right in front of my face. It was Cedric. He appeared in a ghost form still wearing the same clothes he had on the night he was murdered.

“Mariel is that you?” he asked.

“Yes it’s me.” I said with a tiny tear falling from my cheek.

“Wow, nice room. You got Prefect and Head Girl didn’t you?”

“Yeah, it’s kind of nice.”

“So what can I do for you cousin?”

“Ok the whole incident about last year has come up again ten full. There’s a Ministry, spy no doubt, working here as a Professor for Defense Against the Dark Arts. She wanted to meet me after class was over and when I shook her hand I had a premonition. She has a “special” quill if you ask me.”

“A “special” quill?” he asked.

“Yeah, when you write the line it cuts the words into the back of your hand. That’s her detention punishment and Harry has a week of detention with her.”

“What’s her name?”

“Dolores Umbridge. She doesn’t look familiar but she’s tight with Cornelius.”

“So is your father but you’ve never seen her before. How odd is that.”

“Very. I’ll write dad about it tomorrow. I just needed to be able to tell someone that. I told Harry and he punched a desk so yeah not good.”

“Ouch!”

“Yeah. Hey Cedric have you ever heard of the Order of the Phoenix?” I asked hesitantly.

“Somewhat yeah. I knew that Harry’s Parents were in it and looked what happened to them. What about it?”

“Father and I were asked to join the Order this summer. Dumbledore is trying to put a stop to Voldemort because you of all people know that he’s back.

“You do know that pretty much everyone who’s been in the Order have either gone insane or died or was murdered right?”

“Yeah I know that all to well but we need to put a stop to this and I’d love to get back at Voldemort for all these years, especially last year.”

“Because of what happened to me?”

“That and….” Before I could tell him Janine knocked my door.

“I will tell you later. Blessed be cousin.” I whispered. I waved my hand and the candles and Cedric vanished.

I opened the door and sure enough it was Janine.

“Hey,” I said, “can’t sleep?”

“Not really. I was wondering if you had any chamomile tea lying around?”

“Yeah here lemme get you some.” I said whipping up a bag for her.

“Thanks Mariel. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Sweet dreams.”

I closed the door behind her and then looked at my watch sitting on my end table. It was 11:30 already. I changed into a pair of black pants and a black tank top and got into bed. I was trying to see what Harry was feeling. I was to weak and tired so I just tried to sleep.

Chapter 4: Classroom Terror

The next day I had Defense Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, Divination, and Astronomy at midnight. I woke up really early, around 5 o’clock, to a beautiful sunrise. I put my robe on and walked down to the common room. The fire was out and the room was empty. A few books were off the shelf so I just levitated them back onto the shelf. I wondered over to the leather sofa and sat down only to see Sirius Black’s head pop through the fireplace.

“Sirius keep it down. Don’t want anyone to wake up do you?” I said hushing him before he spoke.

“Just thought I’d see how you’re doing. Anything big happen yet?” he asked.

“Yeah Umbridge wanted an interview with me which turned into an interrogation. She kept asking me about Harry and if I saw or spoke to him all summer. She asked if I believed what they said about him in he Daily Prophet. I said ‘innocent until proven guilty.’ She works for Cornelius to.”

“Oh she does? Well you can expect the Ministry to be printing your name in the press a lot. Don’t know if that’ll be a problem for you but for Harry it probably will.”

“And that is why we have a Ministry inside like my dad and I.”

“Very true.”

“You have to leave, Janine’s coming down the stairs right now. Appear my fireplace in my room tonight.” With that said Sirius was gone and Janine appeared 5 seconds later.

“Who were you talking to Mariel?” she asked with a dazed yet still sleepy look on her face.

“My mum. She wanted to know why I hadn’t written yet.” I said lying.

“It’s only the second day that you’ve been here.”

“You of all people know how my mum is Janine.”

“True.”
At breakfast I still felt bad about lying to Janine but I needed to. I can’t blow Sirius’s cover let alone Harry’s or mine. After breakfast I had Defense Against the Dark Arts with Janine and I had a bad feeling about that class.

When I walked into the classroom Professor Umbridge was sitting at her desk with the most freakish and outrageous wardrobe on. She seemed to have an obsession with bows in her hair. Nevertheless, I took my seat next to Janine. Once everyone was seated she began to speak.

“Wands away, parchment and quills out. Now as most of you all know I am Professor Dolores Umbridge. I’ve met some of you personally and I hope we can all have a wonderful year here.” She tapped the chalkboard and the words:

Defense Against the Dark Arts
A Return to Basic Principles

“Your teaching in this subject as been disrupted and fragmented hasn’t it?” she said facing the class. “The constant changing of teachers, many of whom do not seem to have followed any Ministry-approved curriculum, has unfortunately resulted in your being far below the standard we would expect to see in your N.E.W.T. year.

“You will be pleased to know, however, that these problems are now o be rectified. We will be following a carefully structured, theory-centered, Ministry-approved course of defensive magic this year. Copy down the following, please.”

She tapped her wand against the chalkboard again making the first message disappear and another reappear.

Course aims:
1. Understanding the principles underlying defensive magic.
2. Learning to recognize situations in which defensive magic can legally be used.
3. Placing the use of defensive magic in a context for practical use.

Every line I wrote down was excruciating. I could teach Defense Against the Dark Arts better then her and I damn well knew it to. After a couple minutes of quills scratching on parchment she spoke again.

“Has everybody got a copy of Defensive Magical Theory II by Wilbert Slinkhard?”

No one answered.

“I think we’ll try that again. When I ask you a question, I should like you to reply ‘Yes, Professor Umbridge,’ or ‘No, Professor Umbridge.’ So has everyone got a copy of Defensive Magical Theory II by Wilbert Slinkhard?”

“Yes, Professor Umbridge.” Said everyone in sync.

“Good,” she said satisfying, “I should like you to turn to page 5 and read chapter one, ‘Back to Basics.’ There will be no talking.”

Everyone just sat there and opened their books. Janine started writing a message to me on her parchment. It read: Are we going to be able to use magic in here?

I replied: I highly doubt it.

“Miss Naberrie. Do you have something you’d like to share with the class?” said Umbridge towering over her desk.

“Yes as a matter of fact I would like to share. Are we going to be able to use any magic in this class or does the Ministry not approve of students learning how to defend themselves?”

“The Ministry has set rules for the teaching curriculum this year and you of all people are not to question it.” She said fixing her eyes on me.

A few books flew off the shelf and hit Umbridge right in the head, courtesy of me of course.

“You did that on purpose!” she said flailing her arms around.

“Actually that is a power I have no control of. Only those who tend to make me very mad do.” I said acting very cocky.

“That’s it! Mariel Naberrie you have a two days worth of detention!”

“If you say so.”

More books flew from the shelf at her head. I put my hands under my desk and started to levitate them. Books were swirling over everyone’s head in the classroom.

“All right forget it just stop this madness!” yelled Umbridge cowering under her desk.

Five seconds later all the books were placed neatly back on the shelf and everyone came out from under their desks.

“Wicked cool Mariel.” Said Janine complimenting me telekinetically.

“Thanks, maybe now she’ll know her place.” I said replying to her.

After class Professor Umbridge told me to stay after.

“That’s a remarkable display of power you have there Miss Naberrie.” She said sitting down as I stood in front of her desk.

“Tell me professor why did you apply for this job when you really can’t teach defensive magic?” I asked.

“You think you could do better?” she asked.

“As a matter of fact I do. A lot of people would say that but as for me I know it. You haven’t heard of me really have you?”

“Yes I have from your father.”

“You don’t know of what I can do and have done do you?”

“Why don’t you show me then. I have a Bogart upstairs and I’d like to see what you can do. Care to show me?”

“Not especially. boggarts are too easy. I can’t resist a good challenge though. Here let me levitate it down for you besides there’s more room down here anyway.”

MyD8rk3stF3ar5

*and the rest*
So I levitated the chest down the stairs and plopped it on the ground. She stepped aside and opened it. I took my school cloak off and put it on a desk. I turned around and standing there was a Bogart image of Voldemort. He looked the same as he did last year when he murdered my cousin. I was thoroughly mad now. I turned around and my hands were glowing blue. I was throwing blue fireballs at the image.

“GET AWAY FROM ME YOU MURDERER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” I yelled throwing fireballs at him. Suddenly it disappeared back into the chest. Umbridge didn’t say a word to me.

“Accio cloak.” I said and then I turned to Umbridge. “I hope you never meet him. He’s a monster and you’d be surprised what he can do to a simple life.” And I walked off.

Janine was of course standing outside but I rushed off. I told her that I’d meet her Transfiguration. I needed to speak with Professor Trelawny and I wasn’t going to see her until next class period. I turned the corner and changed into my Animagus form. I hopped up onto the windowsill and flew off to the Divination tower. Thankfully her window was still open. I pecked on the side to let her know I was there. She didn’t have a class at the moment so I stepped inside returning to my human form.

“Professor Trelawny might I have a word with you?” I said greeting her.

“Yes my child what can I do for you?” she said cleaning her glasses.

“It’s about the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Dolores Umbridge. What do you know about her?”

“Nothing at the moment. I can see frustration and anger in your eyes though.”

“She’s a Ministry insider. She works for Cornelius. I fear the school and some students are in grave danger. I had a premonition the day I met her. I saw her walking out with Fudge himself after I saw what her detention punishment was.” I had never told Janine or Harry that part of my vision.

“I will keep tabs her. You must focus your energy into protecting one. You know of whom I speak. The future is very clouded at the moment.”

“Something else concerns me as well. She released a boggart after class was over. It took shape of Lord Voldemort.” Even she cringed at the sound of his name.

“It took that shape? Curious. I could’ve sworn your Bogart was death.”

“That’s not what concerns me. Here watch.” I levitated an old vase on one of the desks and brought recent images of Voldemort and Umbridge to my mind. My hands once again started to glow blue and I threw a blue fireball at the vase.

“Good gracious! You have a new power?” she said standing back and clutching her chest.

“Yes. I’m going to talk to Dumbledore about this after class today.”

“Take care Mariel. You’re dealing with things beyond my control now. “

I took shape of my Animagus form once again and flew off to Transfiguration. I had no work in that class or Divination. Once classes were over I made my way back to the common room only to be stopped by Deredian. He grabbed me and tossed me into an empty room.

“Are you crazy Mariel? What the bloody hell were you thinking?!” he yelled locking the door.

“What are you talking about?” I replied yelling right back at him.

“The whole school knows about your little fiasco in Defense Against the Dark Arts! Are you out of your mind, attacking a teacher like that?”

“You don’t understand. No one does. That’s a power I’ll never be able to control. Besides does anyone know about the boggart she released on me? It took the image of Lord Voldemort. Not my usual boggart if you ask me.”

“That still doesn’t give you any right!”

“Oh shut up!! You have no idea and you never will!” I took my Animagus form and flew off again with him standing at the window screaming at me.

Only I couldn’t fly my wings wouldn’t lift me, I was falling. I returned to my human form only to fall 30 feet from the ground. I could hear Darry yelling my name. The next thing I knew I woke up in the hospital wing an hour later.

“Oh thank goodness she’s awake now.” I heard Madam Pomfrey telling someone. Then a dark gray figure came into my vision.

“Mariel are you all right?” it was Dumbledore.

“I think so. What happened?”

“You fell. I saw the whole thing.” Said Deredian caressing my hand on my left side.

“I need to speak with Dumbledore in private please.” I said turning to Deredian.

“All right. I’ll see you to dinner in an hour.” He kissed my forehead then walked out with Madam Pomfrey.

“What can I do for you Miss Naberrie?” he asked pulling a chair up next to my bed.

“After Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor Umbridge kept me after. No doubt you know about what happened in class and you know that’s a power I have no control over yet. Well she wanted a preview of what my power was like. She released a boggart on me with my permission of course. It took the form of Lord Voldemort and it gave me a new power. My hands were glowing blue and I shot fireballs at the boggart. I’m thinking that this new power is what made me fall. My energy was weak and I’d just been fighting with Deredian.”

“There’s not much I can do. You know a lot even before anything has been revealed. “ he replied.

“What should I do Headmaster?”

“Don’t give her a reason to find out about you. Hide it all.”

“That much is easy. What about Harry?”

“Do you know what’s going to happen with him?”

“No I don’t, do you?”

“We haven’t any clue. I’ve talked to the Order and we’ll keep a close watch on him don’t worry. You should rest until dinner and try to regain your strength.”

“Thank you Headmaster.” I laid back down on my bed and blacked out again.

Chapter 5: A Secret Revealed

That night at dinner I was still a little light headed but I slowly made my way to the Great Hall. I hopped out of bed in the hospital wing and put my cloak on.
When I opened the door Janine was standing right there waiting for me.

“Hey Mariel, how are you feeling?” she asked.

“Still a little light headed but I’ll be fine. How’s Deredian?” I said walking along side her to the Great Hall.

“He’s calmed down a bit since your fall but he’s still mad about you using your powers like that.”

“Janine you know that I have a new power right?”

“The whole school does. They think you’re the most powerful witch in this school, even more powerful then Dumbledore.”

“You’ve got to be kidding me!”

“You’re going to have to lay low for awhile and control that new power of yours.”

“I know, would you mind helping me out? Just like in the old days.”

“Sure. I’m pretty sure I can get some potions worked up for you.” She said opening the door to the Great Hall. Everyone was in there and when we walked down the isle to the head of the Ravenclaw table everyone sat and eyed me. I felt so ridiculous but Umbridge just sat there and smirked.

That night in my room I made sure everyone was asleep and I casted a sound proof barrier around my room. I was going to make sure I did the spell right this time. I set 6 black candles in a circle and sat on my bed. I pulled the spell book out that had the summoning spell and I said it three times. Cedric appeared in the same cloud of red smoke.

“Why have you called me again cousin?” he said.

“I needed someone to talk to and you’re the only one I can turn to right now.” I said still sitting on my bed.

“It’s about Umbridge isn’t it?”

“Yeah and I have a new power Cedric.”

“Really?”

“Yeah my hands glow blue and I can throw blue fireballs.”

“Wish I had that kind of power. You’re going to have to be really careful Mariel. You need to learn how to calm yourself and control your anger.”

“Sadly enough I need to be going.” I said looking at my watch. I had 15 minutes to get to astronomy, “You can stay if you’d like. I’ll be back around 12:30.”

“Would you mind solidifying me first?” he asked looking at his hazy form.

“Solidify!” I said waving my hand over his form. He looked like a real person again.

I hugged him and turned into my Animagus form once again and took off to the astronomy tower. There were telescopes set out on the edge of the towers. All we did was catalogue the Zodiac constellations. I flew back into my room and there sat Cedric reading one of my spell books.

“Enjoying yourself?” I asked stepping onto my windowsill.

“Quite, your doing some powerful magic here.” He said closing the book.
“You can say that again. Almost seems to take to much of my energy away half the time.”

“You’re a great witch Mariel and your very powerful. I wouldn’t want to be Voldemort going up against you.” He said putting his hand on my cheek.
“I miss you so much Cedric.”

“I know. How’s everyone taking my death?”

“They don’t mention you.” I said hanging my head down, “Cho still wears the locket you gave her. She misses you a lot to.”

“Tell her I love her and miss her, please?”

“I will but I should get some rest. Blessed be cousin.” He nodded and disappeared once again.

That night I had a dream but it came to me as a nightmare. Janine, Deredian, Cedric and I were walking to class when it happened. Voldemort stopped us and took everyone’s life right in front of my eyes. He killed them in ways I could never imagine. Only I cowered in the corner. He looked me straight in the eyes but did nothing. He just apparated out of the hallway leaving me with three mangled bodies of my friends. I bent down sobbing next to Deredian. To his right was Cedric and his left was Janine. I took Deredian’s bloody hand and kissed it. I could taste the iron in his blood. Then I felt the cold metal of a knife in my back.

“Do you really think I was going to let you go?” whispered a cold raspy voice in my ear. It was Voldemort.

I awoke with a cold sweat. It was 5:30 in the morning and the sun was barely out. I couldn’t see straight and I could barely stand. It was only the second day of school and already my nightmares had returned to me.

A regular week of school had passed and the first Saturday had finally arrived. I woke up around 8:30 only to see a beautiful view outside of golden skies and beautiful greenery. I was wearing a black tank top and dark blue pants. I put a blue long sleeve shirt on that I wear during Quidditch practice. I descended the stairs to the common room and saw everyone jabbering about the article in the Daily Prophet.

“Janine what’s going on?” I asked.

“Umbridge made the front page.” She said slamming her own copy of the paper down on the coffee table. I picked the article and to my surprise there was a large photo of the obese woman standing there with a clipboard.

MINISTRY SEEKS EDUCATIONAL REFORM
DOLORES UMBRIDGE APPOINTED FIRST-EVER “HIGH INQUISITOR”

“You’ve got to be kidding me!” I said looking at the headline.

“Go ahead, read on. It gets better trust me.” I picked up the paper and began to read.

“In a surprise move last night the Ministry of Magic passed new legislation giving itself an unprecedented level of control at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

“’The Minister has been growing uneasy about goings-on at Hogwarts for some time,’ said junior Assistant to the Minister, Percy Weasley. ‘He is now responding to concerns voiced by anxious parents, who feel the school may be moving in a direction they do not approve.’

“This is not the first time in recent weeks Fudge has used new laws to effect improvements at the Wizarding school .As recently as August 30th Educational Decree Twenty-two was passed, to ensure that, in the event of the current headmaster being unable to provide a candidate for a teaching post, the ministry should select and appropriate person.

“’That’s how Dolores Umbridge came to be appointed to the teaching staff at Hogwarts,’ said Weasley last night. ‘Dumbledore couldn’t find anyone, so the Minister put in Umbridge and of course, she’s been an immediate success—“
“You have got to be kidding?!” Janine yelled.

“—totally revolutionizing the teaching of Defense Against the Dark Arts and providing the Minister with on-the-ground feedback about what’s really happening at Hogwarts.’
“It is this last function that the Ministry has now formalized with the passing of Educational Decree Twenty-three, which creates the new position of ‘Hogwarts High Inquisitor.’

“’This is an exciting new phase in the Minister’s plan to get to grips with what some are calling the “falling standards” at Hogwarts,’ said Weasley. “The Inquisitor will have powers to inspect her fellow educators and make sure that they are coming up to scratch. Professor Umbridge has been offered this position in addition to her own teaching post, and we are delighted to say that she has accepted.’

“The Ministry’s new moves have received enthusiastic support from parents of students at Hogwarts.

“’I feel much easier in my mind now that I know that Dumbledore is being subjected to fair and objective evaluation,’ said Mr. Lucius Malfoy, 41, speaking from his Wiltshire mansion last night/ ‘Many of us with our children’s best interests at heart have been concerned about some of Dumbledore’s eccentric decisions in the last few years and will be glad to know that the Ministry is keeping an eye on the situation.’

“Some Uncle I’ve got!” I said looking up from the article.

“Among those ‘eccentric decisions’ are undoubtedly the controversial staff appointments previously described in this newspapers, which have included the hiring of werewolf Remus Lupin, half giant Rubeus Hagrid, and delusional ex-Auror ‘Mad-Eye’ Moody.”

“Rumors abound, of course, that Albus Dumbledore, once Supreme Mugwump of the International Confederation of Wizards and Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot, is no longer up to the task of managing the prestigious school of Hogwarts.

“’I think the appointment of the Inquisitor is a first step toward ensuring that Hogwarts has a headmaster in whom we can all repose confidence.’ Said a Ministry insider last night.

“Wizengamot elders Griselda Marchbanks and Tiberius Ogden have resigned in protest at the introduction of the post of the Inquisitor to Hogwarts.

“’Hogwarts is a school, not an outpost of Cornelius Fudge’s office,’ said Madam Marchbanks. ‘This is a further disgusting attempt to discredit Albus Dumbledore.’
“You have got to be kidding me!” I yelled.

“They want this to be a better school so they send Umbridge? Great move.” Said Janine. I walked over and threw the paper into the fire.

“All right all of you listen up. Ravenclaw has never been the rebellious house. We usually leave that up to the Gryffindor’s but enough is enough. Whatever you read in the Daily Prophet I highly doubt is true so do not believe any of this rubbish.” I said pointing to the fire, “Now, it is your first free day. Congratulations, use it wisely and relax and for those who like to cause trouble make sure you cover your ass well enough so Umbridge doesn’t find out.”

Janine and I agreed to act like nothing happened. We went back to our rooms, changed, and went to breakfast. The rest of the morning I spent in my room trying to concentrate on the homework Professor Snape had given us. I had gotten a quarter of the way through my herbs and half way through my crystals for the cataloguing. Emerall flew in my window and dropped a note on my bed. It was stamped HP, Harry.

Mariel-
I need to talk to you. Meet me outside by the lake. It’s important.
-Harry

*and the rest*
So I changed to my Animagus form and flew out my window to the lake. Surely enough he was there sitting on a log all by himself. He started to stand up and pace around a bit. It really was important. I landed and changed back in front of him.

“Mariel, I’m glad you’re here. I need to talk to you about something, its very important.” He said rubbing his hands together.

“What’s wrong Harry?” I asked stepping towards him.

“I’ve gotten this idea to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts lessons for some of the students.”

“Great idea but you’ll need me Harry. I’m sorry to sound like that but there’s no way you’ll be able to get past Umbridge without my help.”

“I know that’s why I asked you to come here.”

“What are your plans so far?”

“We’ve got a Hogsmeade trip coming up, I figured those who wanted to meet could meet there somewhere.”

“Where on Earth could you meet at Hogsmeade?” I asked looking out over the lake.

“There are a couple remote locations. We’d have to go somewhere quiet, someplace where no one ever goes.”

“In the Hogs Head. You’d have to go to the Hogs Head. It’s very quiet and rarely anyone goes in there. My advice would be to go someplace loud and noisy where they wouldn’t be able to hear you.”

“We wouldn’t be able to discuss what needs to be discussed though.”

“Either place is good. Just do me a favor.”

“Sure.”

“Do not mention me being a part of this at all. I could lose Head Girl, Prefect, Captain, everything.”

“We’ve all taken a vow that we wouldn’t mention anyone in this.”

“That’s good. Let me guess, Ron loves the idea and Hermione hates it?”

“Bingo.” He said laughing a bit.

“This is a very good idea Harry, but it’s a huge risk to take now.”

“The students need to know how to defend themselves.”

“I know. I’ll let Janine know about this. I’m sure she’d love to get back at Umbridge.”

“Just make sure you tell her and only her ok?”

“I promise. Well I need to get back to my homework not to mention Quidditch practice. I’ll see you later.”

“Goodbye Mariel.” I gave him a hug and turned into my Animagus form once again.

The rest of the day seemed gloomy and a little sad in some cases. I barely talked to Deredian all day and Janine came into my room a couple times. I told her about Harry’s idea and she was all for it of course.
The weeks went by fast only to be halted by the first Hogsmeade trip and the first meeting in the Hogs Head. It was a beautiful spring morning with a beautiful sunrise. I woke up and got dressed in a pair of dark jeans, a black T-shirt, and my dark blue jean jacket. I put my hair back in a braid and swung my blue bag over my shoulder. I put my black cloak in there just in case I’d need it going to the Hog’s Head. I walked down the staircase and looked around the common room for Janine. Avril told me she was still upstairs getting dressed so I walked up those long memorable stairs.

“Janine, you almost ready?” I asked stepping into the familiar dormitory.

“Yeah I’ll be done in a minute.”

“Well hurry up we have to meet Harry and them at the Hog’s Head in a little bit.”

“This sounds like a really great idea but what if we get caught?”

“Bring a dark hooded cloak just in case. I can only shield some people but I can’t for everyone. Just think of it as us sneaking out of the mansion when we were little.” I said laughing.

“Yeah sure. Ok let’s get going.”

So we walked down the stairs and out of the common room. We lined up in front of Filch so he could check off names from the long list of students with permission. I saw Harry, Ron and Hermione standing eagerly on the other side. Janine and I just stood with Deredian like cocky 7th years. After that was over with we all walked the lonely winding road into the village.

The three of us, Deredian and I hand in hand of course, walked down the main street past all the familiar stores and shops. Past the owl post and Zonko’s joke shop to the Hog’s Head. Deredian was still on my arm so Janine and I made an excuse to go into Zonko’s for a quick moment and that we’d meet him for lunch in the Three Broomsticks. We poked around a bit and bought some Fizzing Whizzbees then left as soon as we saw the other three walk into the Hog’s Head.

“Do you think we should put our cloaks on?” asked Janine.

“Yeah that’d be a good idea. Let’s go into the backroom.” I said leading the way.

I took my jean jacket off and put my black cloak on. Janine put a dark blue one on instead. When we walked out of Zonko’s we put our hoods up and casually walked into the Hog’s Head. It wasn’t like the Three Broomsticks at all. It was a small dingy and barely lit room with old wizards and witches that kept their hoods up. It was a good idea that we brought our cloaks in the first place. Janine and I saw Harry, Ron and Hermione in the corner. I turned to Janine to whisper something to her instead I just looked and spoke telekinetically.

“Let’s go sit in the corner and wait till everyone else comes in. We have to make an entrance.”

“Sounds like a good plan to me.” She said. I walked over to a dark corner of the pub that had a perfect view of Harry. I saw him come back with three butterbeers for him and his friends. I heard something about Ron wanting to try a firewhisky. After a couple moments of pure silence the pub door opened and quite a few familiar faces poured in.

First came Neville with Dean and Lavender, who were closely followed by Parvarti and Padma Patil with Cho and one of her usually giggling girlfriends, then Luna Lovegood; then Katie Bell, Alicia Spinnet, and Angelina Johnson, Colin and Dennis Creevy, Ernie Macmillan Justin Finch-Fletchley, Hannah Abbott, and a Hufflepuff girl with a long plait down her back whose name I hadn’t any idea of; Anthony Goldstein, Michael Corner, and Terry Boot (all three Ravenclaw boys); Ginny, closely followed by a tall skinny blond boy with an upturned nose who seemed to be a member of Hufflepuff’s Quidditch team and bringing up the rear were Fred and George Weasley with their friend Lee Jordan, Janine’s ex boyfriend.

Fred went up to the bartender and asked for twenty-five butterbeers then asked for everyone to start coughing up their gold. The bartender was astonished at how full his pub was. Hermione tried to give a speech but she stuttered to much for my taste.

“I think now would be a good time to make our entrance.” I said looking at Janine. I kept my hood up and walked over to the table where everyone was sitting. I stood at the foot of the table and spook. Harry knew it was me right away even though I kept my face down.

“You all know why you’re here so please if you’d be so kind…” I said removing my hood, “to give me your attention. I’ll take it from here Hermione.” She seemed pretty relieved, “You all know who I am so we can skip the introduction. Now Harry has brought this to my attention and I think it is a wonderful idea but you all need to be dedicated and smart. Seeing as there are a few prefects here with us now Harry, Ron, and Hermione will have eyes everywhere. These lessons are for Harry to teach you how to perform actual spells that you can use to defend yourselves. Because the Ministry felt the need to give us a ridiculous new teaching curriculum you won’t be taught any spell work in your Defense Against the Dark Arts classes. Now I will leave Harry, Ron and Hermione to give you the rest.” Hermione stood up and took over once more.

07-20-2005, 11:52 PM
*and to finish up the ending*
“I want to pass my O.W.L.’s just as much as the next person but I also want to defend myself because,” she took a long breath in, “well because Lord Voldemort is back.” Many of the students were stunned at Hermione saying his name. “Well that’s the plan anyway.”

“Where’s the proof You-Know-Who’s back?” Said the blonde Hufflepuff boy.

“Dumbledore believes it.” Said Hermione trying to stand her ground.

“You mean, Dumbledore believes him.” He said. I started to get aggressive again. My hand was glowing ever slightly blue. Harry grabbed my hand in order to stop me.

“Who are you?” asked Ron.

“Zacharias Smith and I think we’ve got the right to know exactly what makes him say You-Know-Who’s back.”

“You want proof?!” I yelled.

“Yes actually I do.”

“Harry and I are living proof that Lord Voldemort is alive and well. We both saw him murder my cousin before our eyes! I want nothing more then to avenge Cedric’s death and we both want revenge against the pain he has caused us both! Now we are not here to discuss that. We are here to discuss whether you’d like know to how to defend your ass or not!” I yelled slamming my fist on the table.

“Thank you Mariel. Now…like I said, if you want to learn defensive magic then we’ll need to work something out.”

“Is it true? That you can conjure a Patronus?” asked the Hufflepuff girl with the long plait on her back.

“Yeah. Mariel can to, she’s teaching me to conjure one through my hands like her.” He said defensively.

“You have a stag Patronus right and Mariel has a black panther?” she asked again.

“That’s correct.” I said.

“Oh I’m Susan Bones. You met my auntie at your hearing Harry.”

“Blimey Harry! I knew Mariel was that powerful but I had no idea you could conjure one!” said Lee Jordan.

“Mum told Ron not to spread it around. He had enough attention.” Said Fred.

Everyone started to ask questions about what Harry had done in the past. I simply smiled at him.

“You’re a great Wizard Harry and you know it. So does everyone else here.” I said.

“Your more powerful then I am though.” He said.

“You will be, in time.”

“Yes well moving on. The point is are we all agreed to take lessons from Harry and Mariel?” said Hermione.

“And me?”

“Of course, you’re the most powerful amongst us.” There was a murmur of general agreement from everyone.

“Right well the next question is when and how often are we going to meet?” asked Hermione.

“It can’t interfere with Quidditch.” Said Angelina.

“No, nor with ours.” Said Cho looking at me. I just shook my head.

“Nor with ours.” Said Zacharias Smith.

“I’m sure we can find a time that suits everyone.” I said.

“This is a great idea considering Cornelius Fudge has his own private Army.” Said Luna Lovegood.

“Oh bloody hell Luna.” I said lowering my head. Janine and I both knew what she was talking about.

“What do you mean?” asked Harry.

“He has an army of heliopaths.” She said.

“It’s nothing but a rumor believe me my father is Cornelius’s right hand man. He has nothing but his own desk that he hides under and waits till my father takes care of everything.”

“Weren’t we trying to decide how often we’re going to meet and get Defense lessons?” said Ginny trying to get back on the subject.

“Once a week sounds cool.” Said Lee Jordan.

“Just as long as…” said Angelina.

“We know it won’t interrupt Quidditch.” Said Hermione, “Now where could we meet?”

“How about the Library?” asked Katie Bell.

“I doubt Madam Pince will be excited about us doing jinxes in the Library.” Said Janine.

“What about an unused classroom?” said Dean.

“I doubt it. With Umbridge spying on every classroom after hours there’d be no way.” Said Ron.

“We’ll figure out some place and let you know as soon as we can.” Said Harry.

“I think everyone should write their names down. I’ll keep the list in a safe place.” Said Hermione and everyone started to write their names down. After Janine and I wrote our names down I took Harry to the same corner we sat at before.

Chapter 6: Education Decree Number Twenty-Four

The rest of the weekend went well and was taken up mostly with Janine and I sitting on the floor of my room working on homework. By the time Monday morning rolled around we had both lost time and track of everything. Janine just slept in my room Sunday night, so when I awoke I almost stepped on her. We descended the stair case leading to the common room. We were still dressed in our pajamas unlike everyone else in the room. There was a loud commotion in the room. Everyone was appalled at the new sign that had been posted to the Notice Board.

________ BY ORDER OF ________

The High Inquisitor of Hogwarts

All Student Organizations, Societies, Teams, Groups and Clubs are henceforth disbanded.
Any Organization, Society, Team, Group, or Club is hereby defined as a regular meeting of three or more students.
Permission to re-form may be sought from the High Inquisitor (Professor Umbridge).
No Student Organization, Society, Team, Group, or Club may exist without the knowledge and approval of the High Inquisitor.
Any student found to have formed, or to belong to, an Organization, Society, Team, Group, or Club that has not been approved by the High Inquisitor will be expelled.

The above is in accordance with
Educational Decree Number Twenty-Four

Signed:
Dolores Jane Umbridge
HIGH INQUISTOR

“Mon Dieu ! Je ne peux pas croire cette femme !” (My God! I cannot believe this woman!) I yelled in French.

“We’ve got to do something. Your Head Girl, can’t you meet with Sean and come to some kind of conclusion. Mariel you’ve got to kiss up to this woman in order to get anything out of her, you know that right. C'est la seule manière que vous pouvez le protéger.” (It’s the only way you can protect him.) said Janine.

“Come on we need to get changed. We have to talk to Harry about this.” I said.

“Mariel there’s no time, just change us here.” she said. I gave a nervous look, that’s something I hadn’t tried before.

I waved my hand over Janine and closed my eyes. When I opened them she was fully clothed in her uniform, hair and make-up were done as well. I did the same thing to me and ran out of the common room.

“Man I wish we could apparate in the bloody school.” said Janine running along side me.

“Maybe we can, come here. It’s not like no one’s tried before.” I said hugging Janine. I thought long and hard about the dungeons, closed my eyes, hugged Janine tightly, and apparated.

“That was not supposed to work.” she said.

“That’s because I asked Dumbledore for a little help. He let us because he’s on our side.”

We ran to the Great Hall entrance and found a swarm of students hoarding into the Great Hall. Fortunately we found Harry, Ron, and Hermione standing by the stair case.

“Harry!” I yelled and he instantly looked my way.

“Did you see the new decree?” he asked holding my shoulders.

“Yes I did but Janine has a good idea how we can sneak past her.”
“What are we going to do about Quidditch?! Teams are banned just as well.” yelled Angelina.

“Calm yourself! We cannot lose our heads over this. We must stick together. Angelina you and I will meet with the other team captains and sign a form asking to reinstate all the teams. Hermione I need you to give me the list for safe keeping. Ron I want you to keep your eyes open for the other people who signed and make sure their spotty or not. Yes I know about the jinx you guys casted. If you see anyone make sure to tell me right away. As for you Harry, I need you to keep your temper down. Just kiss up to her like I’m going to have to do in order to win some trust. Janine and I will keep in close touch. Be careful Harry. All of you be careful.” I said as I made my way into the Great Hall.

After breakfast I made my way to the dungeons with Naomi for Potions. We just worked on our catalogues that were to be finished in two weeks. I was halfway done with mine. After Potions I had Charms. So far very few of my classes had been examined by Umbridge. Only Arithmancy and Ancient Runes had been watched over by the pig. During the break I wandered around trying to find Harry. I caught him for a split second as he was heading off to Divination.

“Hey Harry, everything all right?” I asked sneaking up behind him.

“Yeah sorta, I found Hedwig injured during History of Magic.” he said staring at the floor.

“Where is she at now?”

“Grubby-Plank took her. I sort of ran in McGonagall to.”

“She’s in good hands don’t worry. You can use Emerall for long distance letters if you’d like.”

“Thanks. I’m thinking about skipping Divination to work on my essay that Snape gave me.”

“You do realize your talking to me right?” I said giving him a little smile.

“Yeah I know. I just need to catch up on things.” he said finally looking me in the eyes.

“Would you like me to help with some of your homework?” I asked.
“I’ll keep the offer in mind.” he said, “Well I think I’d better get going to Divination.”

“I think that’d be best. Keep your head up, things will get better I promise.” I said putting my hand on his shoulder. I then made my way to Arthimancy.

Thankfully Umbridge hadn’t visited any of my classes yet. I think she was focusing more on the younger years instead of the N.E.W.T. levels. Arthimancy was easy and in Ancient Runes we just did some translations. After my lessons I went to see Umbridge to get approval for my Quidditch team to play. I found my way to the third floor to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom. I climbed the familiar staircase to her office and knocked on the door.

*and the rest*
“Who is it?” she said in a sing-song opera voice, “State your name and your reason for entering.”

“Mariel Rouge Naberrie, Head Girl, Prefect, and Quidditch Captain asking approval to reinstate the Ravenclaw Quidditch team, ma’am.” I said in a very mellow voice trying not to sound cocky.

“Ah yes my dear please enter.” she said. I opened the door and saw that the office was completely organized with everything labeled, “Please Miss Naberrie have a seat.”

“Professor Umbridge, I’ve come to ask for approval to reinstate my Quidditch team. We are very eager to get out and start practicing. It’s not like us Ravenclaw’s to slack. As you may know, we want to succeed in all that we do. I’ve prepared a full parchment asking for approval and reasons to show you what a great team we are.”

“Thank you very much but I’m sure a parchment this thorough will not be necessary. With a prestigious captain to lead them such as yourself I’m sure Ravenclaw will represent Hogwarts proudly this year.”

“Well I’m glad to see that your views towards me have changed. I do want to apologize for the way I’ve acted toward you. And thank you for the compliment.”

“Ah my dear child, it is quite all right. I did not introduce myself very properly with an interrogation towards you. But I would like to ask you about your family. I’ve heard so much about you and your parents and of course dear Chloe. Why isn’t she joining us this year?”
“Well all that has been said about me is probably true, both the good and bad. My mother is home schooling Chloe and she is waiting till I graduate to introduce her to Hogwarts. Her powers are growing very rapidly as did mine. My father works at the Ministry and is considered Cornelius’s right hand man. My mother works for the Apothecary in Diagon Alley from home. She makes a lot of the potions that are sold there. Anything else ma’am?”

“Well that is all very impressive, but I shant keep you much longer from your studies.” she said stamping an approved stamp on my parchment, “Your team can resume their regular practice schedule as soon as you’d like.”

“Thank you for taking the time to see me Professor. Have a good evening.”

“And for you as well Mariel.” I flashed her a smile and walked out the door. I stood against the cold brick wall for a moment to realize what I had done. I basically made a pact with the Devil herself. As I made my way back to the common room I ran into Hermione who look very frantic. She then ran up to me and couldn’t get a hold of her breath.

“Hermione calm down, what’s wrong?” I said grabbing her shoulders.

“Snuffles came to our common room and Umbridge caught him!” she said jumping up and down.

“In the pit?”

“Yes! He disappeared before she really got a hold of him but still. You have to come to our dormitory now.”

“I can’t, I have to make rounds and so do you and Ron. Look I’ve got a private pit ok. Lemme try and contact Snuffles that way, if not I’ll project ok?”

“Astral?” she said finally calming down.

“Yes, now go and get Ron. You two have to patrol the Gryffindor Tower tonight.”

“All right, just be careful Mariel.”

“I know, you to.” I said, then made my way to the Ravenclaw Tower. It was well after dinner which I had forgotten that I blacked out for. So many people, including Deredian and Janine, were wondering where I was. Just then I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was Deredian.

“Mariel where have you been? Janine and I were worried sick about you when you didn’t show up for dinner.” he said grabbing my shoulders.

“I went and talked to Umbridge to get my team back then I dunno I just blacked out. I woke up past dinner time.” I said rubbing my head.

“Are you ok?” he bent down to my level.

“Yeah I’ll be fine I just need to go lay down.”

“Ok well let me at least walk you back to the Tower.”

“Thanks Darry.”

When I got back to my dormitory I conjured some floo powder to get to Sirius. I threw it into the fire and said the address to Sirius’s house and poked my head through.

“Sirius! Remus! Where is everyone?” I yelled. Sirius then came into view.

“Mariel what are you doing here? That oaf might catch you.”

“No I’m fine for about five minutes. I put a protection spell up, besides this is the last fire place she’d expect. I just wanted to make sure that she didn’t catch you.”

“No I’m fine. I pulled away before she could grab me.”

“All right then. I’ll be contacting you in the next week or so to update you on everything.”

“Ok, sleep well Mariel.”

“You too Sirius.”
