“Finding Away Around”

Summery: Ron and Hermione are determined to "find away around" a curse that their ancestors placed into their bloodstream.

A Ron and Hermione Fanfic

Luthien Elentari

A/N: This fanfic would not have been written if I had never met Miss Chelsea and the admirable Miss Laurel. I give them many thanks. I would never forgive myself if I forgot Allyson, Mom and Abby for reading this and giving me advice. I give thanks to Arabella and Zsenya who inspired me through their wonderful Ron/Hermione fics.

This fanfic is dedicated to Abby

Chapter One

He didn’t deserve her Ron thought. Sitting across from him was Hermione who was doing her homework. Harry would be perfect for Hermione. He was brave, famous and a good Qudditch player. Although he thought I’m prefect and Keeper for Gryffindor’s Qudditch team. That ought to mean something to someone like Hermione. “Ron can I borrow your quill?” she pointed to his quill which was lying on the table beside him. “Since you are obviously not doing you homework” she finished.
“Yeah, sure” he muttered pretending to read Transfiguration for Advanced Wizards and Witches which was staring up at him.
“How far are you in that book?” she added, writing on a blank piece of parchment.
“Uh” he answered, flipping to the index “Chapter three”
“Were supposed to be on chapter four Ronald”
“Oh, right” he said flipping to chapter four.
She looked so cute. Her hair was flying out of its tight and secure bun and her quill was scratching across the parchment. If only she would notice him.
“How did Quidditch practice turn out?”
“It was alright. I blocked a few goals”
“That’s wonderful Ron!” she said eagerly.
“Yeah, I guess so”
Hermione paused her writing and looked up at him with her small brown eyes.
“That is definitely something to be proud of” she smiled and blushed a little then returned to her work.
Over the next hour the sky darkened and more and more students returned to the common room. Ron had finished his reading and with a little help from Hermione he finished two essays.
“---Ron, the moons of Uranus differ from Jupiter’s moons because they are made out of different elements not because Uranus’s moons are purple and Jupiter’s moons are red” Hermione said leaning over his worksheet for divination.
“Oh right” he said crossing out his answers and replacing them with Hermione’s.
“When are you going to learn how to work on your own?” she muttered crossly under her breath.
“When you stop helping me” he answered honestly.
Hermione looked up at him “I don’t help you all the time” she said blushing slightly.
“Yeah quite a bit actually” he said with a slight sign of arrogance in his tone.
“That’s only because I’m a nice person, you should be lucky that I’m nice because if I wasn’t I wouldn’t be helping you with your homework right now”
He grinned “I don’t think that’s why you help me with my homework”
Hermione grabbed her books and papers with such ferocity it made him jump.
“I’m going to bed” she called out heading off to her dormitory.
“Wait a minute Hermione, I didn’t mean--”
“I perfectly know what you meant Ronald” Hermione yelled halfway up the stairs.
“Hermione—I need help with my transfiguration homework” he yelled across the room.
“Good night” was the last thing he heard before he heard a loud slam.
A crowd of fourth year girls by the fire playing Snapdragon stared at him.
“What a stupid boy” he heard one of them mutter.
“Idiot” her friend whispered placing the cards into two piles.
Ron just ignored them. They were bloody fourth years? What did they know?
If Fred and George had seen this they would have mocked him until the day he graduated. Ron rubbed his temple and tried hard to concentrate on his essay for transfiguration feeling incredibly stupid and annoyed. Everything had been going well, I finished some of my homework and Hermione had even helped him. Why did he ruin it by being a complete git? It had been an uncontrollable urge to see her reaction to the question he concluded. She had seemed quite offended by the question; did that mean that what he was implying was correct? Was it possible that the reason she was helping him with his homework was because she fancied him? His stomach turned over. Hermione might fancy him he thought happily, suddenly in the mood to complete his essay which barely had two words written on it. Hermione might fancy him.

~*~
It was around eleven o’clock when Ron finished his homework. The common room was empty except for the fire which was popping and cracking noisily in the center of the room. He gathered his things playing with the idea of sleeping on the armchair instead of having the hassle of walking up the stairs to his dormitory. It took five minutes but he eventually wound up in his bed. He had barely been lying in his bed for five minutes when he heard a soft knock at the door. He heard Seamus groan loudly.
“Who in merlins name would be awake at this hour?”
Ron pulled back the curtains and headed toward the door.
“I’ll get it” he called.
He didn’t know how to react when he saw Hermione standing outside the door in her bathrobe her cheeks the color of raspberry jam.
“Oh hello Ron” she said softly looking anxiously around the dormitory to see if anyone was listening. Was something wrong? Did something happen? Is she hurt?
“Hermione is everything alright?” he asked imagining all the horrible things that might have happened while he had been completing his essay down in the common room.
“Yeah Ron, everything’s all right it’s just—” Hermione began
“I wanted to apologize for yelling at you in the common room. I shouldn’t have gotten so angry” she finished her voice shaking.
Ron was in shock. Hermione had never apologized for yelling at him.
Especially at eleven thirty at night in a bathrobe.
“I—well was being a complete—git, you really don’t need to apologize” he answered trying hard to hide the amount of pleasure he was receiving from this.
“No Ron, Really I shouldn’t have yelled at you like that. Especially in front of the whole common room” she paused “I’m sorry if I embarrassed you”
“Yeah well, I’m used to it by now”
She wrinkled up her nose.
“We don’t fight that much” she paused again “Do you think we fight a lot?”
“Uh sure”
“We had the S.P.E.W fight, the cat and the rat fight and the Yule Ball fight; you don’t think that’s a lot do you?” Hermione gave him a hopeful look then ran her hands through her hair. He had never seen this side of her ever. Who ever thought Hermione could ever be so not together? This was weird.

A/N: I'm going on vacation. So I may not be able to post for awhile. Thanx for reading this though.
