We're going to start at the top of the page with the Navigation Bar. This is at the top of every page.

Right below where it says Welcome, yourusername is a link for your Private Messages. There is where you will see if you have any new PMs and how many you have stored (sent and received combined total). More info on PMs below.

Site Navigation: I added this modification. This is where you will find the links to the other sections of the site

Allow vCard Download :You may choose to allow other users to download a vCard containing your email address, birthday, and username. If you want to keep your email address private, do not allow vCard downloads.
Thread Viewing Layout: If you prefer the old-style layout (using two vertical columns rather than the new horizontal layout) I have added a modifiation so you can use the old layout. You can switch to it by choosing "Left."

Event Reminders: This is a Calendar Feature. More about that below in the Calendar section




FAQ: Will be adding site rules to the FAQ soon



Member List: Post Counts have been removed from the member list, ages of posters have been added.



Calendar: The calendar works a bit different than on the old software. There are now two calendars (with the option to add more).



MI Calendar: This is where MI member birthdays are displayed. At the bottom of the public calendar page is a jump menu to get to your private calendar.


Weekly, monthly and yearly views


Jump to Today option


Add single, ranged or recurring events


Add all day events


Your Private Calendar: You can add events to the Private Calendar. The events you add can only be viewed by you.


Event Reminders: You can request an event reminder for any item that has been added to the calendars by either you or the MI staff. Click on the link for that item. You will be taken to the page with the extended information for that item. On that page is a link to request a reminder for that event. Event Reminders show up on the bottom of the main forums page in the Upcoming Events section of the What's Going On? category. The Event Reminders may be moved to the top of the page. That is yet to be determined.




Quick Links: Like the title says, quick links to navigate to various sections



Log Out: This is one of two places where you can log out of the board. This link is visible at the top of every page. There is also a log out link at the bottom of the main forum page.

Users Browsers Forums: The number of users browsing each forum will be displayed beside the forum name. (5 Viewing)

View Muggle Informer Staff: Names of administrators, moderators, and other people who volunteer their time to work on various sections of the site.



What's Going On? : Who's Online, Birthdays, Board Statistics, and


Birthdays: Birthdays will only be displayed for members who have been active in the last 180 days.


Event Reminders: Events for the next seven days that have been posted on the Public Calendar will show up here. You can also request event reminders for items that you post to the Private Calendar.




Log Out: There is a log out link at the bottom of this page only. There is a log out link at the top of every page in the navigation bar.



Quick Style Chooser: There is a pull down menu at the bottom left of every page where you can choose forum skins.



Archive: This is a search engine friendly archive of the board. It provides a basic structure that search engines can spider to grab all the content of the board.

Search This Forum: This is where you can conduct a search for that forum only.



Thread / Thread Starter, Rating, Last Post, Replies, Views: These are links. Click on them to sort the page. Ratings are only allowed in the Tales From Rivendell and Beyond forum.


Sticky threads : are now defined by this icon http://mazland.net/forums/images/misc/blue/sticky.gif


New Posts Since Last Visit: http://www.mazland.net/forums/images/buttons/blue/firstnew.gif Threads that have been posted to since your last visit will have a new posts icon beside the thread title as before. The thread title will also be in bold text.


http://mazland.net/forums/images/statusicon/blue/thread_dot.gif What are these icons with arrows on them? They indicate that you have posted in that thread!


http://www.mazland.net/forums/images/misc/blue/subscribed.gif If you see this image to the right of a thread title, this indicates that you are subscribed to that thread.


Currently Active Users: Members browsing the forum are now listed at the bottom of the page.


Moderators: Moderators of the forum are now listed at the bottom of the page.


Thread Preview: Hover your mouse over the thread title. A box with the first 300 characters of the first post will be displayed.


Thread Views: Thread view totals will only be updated once an hour. Immediate updates are server intensive.


Redirection Message Pages: These have been removed. This saves bandwidth and may lessen the load on the server. Note: Some pages will still use the redirection page when cookies are involved to prevent some potential problems.

Rate Thread: This is only available in the Tales from Rivendell & Beyond forum.
10 people must rate a thread before the average rating will be displayed.

Numbered Posts: Each post is numbered. This is different than a post ID number. The number for each post is at the top right of the post. You can advise someone to look at page X of XXX thread, post number X, or you can use URL of that post number to make a link to that post. Clicking on the link for the post number will bring up a page revealing that post only.


Username: Click on the username to find links to

View Public Profile


Send a private message to the member


Send email to the member


Visit the member's homepage


Find More Posts by the user


Add the user to Your Buddy List



Avatar: If a member has an avatar, clicking on the avatar will take you to the member's public profile.


Age: The poster's age is listed below location and post count. Ages of posters are already displayed on the calendar and on the main forum page in the birthday section.


Report this post to a moderator: This is no longer a text link. This is now a clickable graphic http://www.mazland.net/forums/images/buttons/blue/report.gif


New Posts: There are small graphics http://www.mazland.net/forums/images/statusicon/blue/post_old.gif http://www.mazland.net/forums/images/statusicon/blue/post_new.gif next to the date and time that the posts are made. This icon http://www.mazland.net/forums/images/statusicon/blue/post_new.gif indicates a new post since the last time you logged in.


Polls :
When you make a poll you have the option to make votes public. If you choose this option all users who voted and and what choice they voted for will be displayed. The number of votes for each option on the poll will be a clickable link for the list of voters.
When someone votes on a poll, the thread's last post time will be updated, thereby returning it to the top of its parent forum listing.



Quick Reply: There is a Quick Reply box at the bottom of each thread page. This is a simple text box with no extra formatting controls. If you wish to reply to a post before reading subsequent posts, click on the Quick Reply button http://mazland.net/forums/images/buttons/blue/quickreply.gif. If you wish to use a reply page with the extra formatting controls, click on the Post Reply button at the top and bottom of the page or use the Quote button.


Editing Posts:

When you edit a post, you can preview it before you submit it.
When you edit a post, you have the option of posting the reason for your edit.



Users Viewing Thread: The names of the users browsing a thread shows up below the quick reply box.



Deleting Posts: When you delete a post, you have the option of posting a reason for the deletion. The moderators will be able to see that you have deleted a post.

Highlight: highlight text (this will show up red)

Left: this will align your text to the left

Thread: Link to a specific thread.

Usage: threadid
Example Usage: 5434
Usage: Name of thread goes here!
Example Usage: Name of thread goes here!

How do you find the threadid? Open any thread. Look at the URL in the address bar of your browser. At the end of the URL you will see t=xxxx. The number at the end is the threadid. Replace the phrase "threadid" with that number when you post the code.




Post: Link to a specific post

Usage: postid
Example Usage: 370605
Usage: Click Me!
Example Usage: Click Me!

How do you find the postid? Find the post you want to link to. Click on the quote button on that post. Look at the URL in the address bar of your browser. At the end of the URL you will see p=xxxx. The number at the end is the postid. Replace the phrase "postid" with that number when you post the code.
