If you see a message that says "Sorry, the server has experienced a dreaminess overload, but should be back up shortly. Thank you for your patience." That means that one of the administrators has closed the board temporarily to work on something. Some maintenance can be done with the board open, some cannot. The board will be back up as soon as they are finished.
If you get a page saying there has been a mysql error, or one that says there seems to have been a problem with the database, then there is something wrong that probably needs fixed by the server host. The database may have just lost it's connection. If you see this page, it automatically sends an email to the administrators. Please do not repeatedly keep refreshing the page. It only sends more of those emails to the administrators, and clogs up the mailbox.
If you get an error saying the page cannot be found, then it's probably a problem with the server. One of the administrators will have to contact the server host to have the problem corrected.
Please remember that one of the administrators may not be around when the problem first happens. When we find out there is a problem we have to email our server host. We have to wait for him to read the email. It may be something he can remedy, or we may have to wait for him to contact the main server host, and then we have to wait for them to answer him. We have to wait for him to then email us with a reply. This can take minutes or hours, depending on who's around when it happens, what time of day it is, and what the problem is.
NEVER EVER PANIC if you can't access the site. Check to see if our sister site, The Council-of-Elrond (http://www.council-of-elrond.com), is up and running. If it is, that is where the administrators will post updates if the problem is going to take a while to fix. You are welcome to post there while waiting for the Council-of-Elrond to be fixed. If both sites are down, then it's most likely a problem with the whole server. If that happens, be assured that the administrators and the server host are working on the problem, and the sites will be back online as soon as possible.
