Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban has received five nominations from the Visual Effects Society (http://www.vesawards.com/)'s third annual awards. Winners will be announced at the 3rd Annual VES Awards gala on February 16, 2005 at the Hollywood Palladium.

Prisoner of Azkaban is nominated (http://www.vesawards.com/nominees.htm) for:

Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects Driven Motion Picture; Best single Visual Effect of the Year; Outstanding Performance by an Animated Character in a Live Action Motion Picture; Outstanding Performance by an Animated Character in an Animated Motion Picture; Outstanding Models and Miniatures in a Motion Picture and Outstanding Compositing in a Motion Picture.


The movie is also nominated in the 10th annual Moviefone Moviegoer Awards (http://movies.channel.aol.com/franchise/moviegoer_awards/nominations.adp) for Best Picture, Best Family film, a Best Supporting Actress nomination for Emma Watson and for the Greatest Moment from film for Harry flying on Buckbeak.

The top five nominees in each category will be presented to millions of moviegoers, who will then vote on the winners. So go and vote for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban & Emma Watson.

To add to the list of awards, Prisoner is up against Spider-Man2, Troy, Shark Tale, Shrek2, Bridget Jones: The End of Reason, Scooby-Doo2, The Incredibles, IRobot and The Day After Tomorrow for Film of The Year at this years BAFTA’S (http://www.orange.co.uk/entertainment/film/bafta/).

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Jan 13 that seven films, including Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, are being considered for a makeup Oscar. The six other films in the category are: The Aviator, De-Lovely, Hell Boy, Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, The Passion of the Christ and The Sea Inside.

The committee will view clips of all the films and then select as many as three of them for the Oscar. All Oscar nominees will be announced on January 25 . The Oscar broadcast will air on ABC on Sunday, February 27.

It was announced this Jan 17 that Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is in the running for the best British picture award at this year's BAFTA's. The other films nominated include: Dead Man's Shoes, My Summer of Love, Shaun of the Dead and Vera Drake.

The British public will also be able to vote (http://www.orange.co.uk/entertainment/film/bafta/) for their favorite blockbuster award which will be between Shrek 2, The Incredibles, Troy and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Other awards the movie are up for include Make-Up & Hair, Achievement in Special Visual Effects and Production Design.

The BAFTA's will be awarded on February 12, two weeks before the Oscars.
