What does he look like to you?

I'm not really sure if this belongs in Lit or here, but since this forum is moving slowly I put it here. Feel free to move it if you want. :)

I've heard a lot of things about Dobby. :) Some of you like him, some of you hate him, some of you like his voice, some don't.

Some of you are just reminded too much of Jar Jar Binks. ;)

But for those of you who don't like Dobby in some way, what would you make him look like?

What did he look like to you when you first read Chamber of Secrets?

The Dobby they have in the CoS is just too ugly. I always imagined him (and other house-elves) as somewhat...cuter than that. (And I don't care much for his voice, either)

To me, he just sounds too much like a kid in acting classes, you know, taking his time to properlysound out every word and sound: "Harry Potter must not go baCK to HoGWarts..." Maybe that's just me though...

What does he look like? Gosh, I don't know. I'm not good at that. The pictures so far look ok. Not great, but not too bad. I guess he should be a little, uh, cuter. Sort of puppy dog like -- eager to please, slightly confused, with that guilty-dog look when he does something "wrong."
But not too cute or smiley. He most often has a concerned or puzzled look on his face, I guess.

What does he sound like?
Exactly like the guy who reads the unabridged audio books. Exactly like that.

Not like the film version.

I dunno - just different. Nose longer and thinner, 1. Ears different - thinner and pointing upwards. Feet are too large.

I know what you mean about the expresion, DB. He should look like he is a smiley person, but doesn't smile very much because he always has to think about being bad.

He should be very twitchy and jumpy - like always expecting the malfoys to burst through the door.

I Hate how they are portraying Dobby.

The picture that was in CoS is exactly how he should look, much cuter, and yes a sort of smily creature. Not like Chris Columbus' version, that Dobby could end up SCARING people. And the voice is really annoying, I cringe, I really do, I also cringe when I think what Winky might look like. If they ever get that far.:rolleyes:

I imagined him less taller, less anorexic and more cute. With wide clothes, or whatever he wears. And different ears too.

Though I also thought he looks otherwise , I like how Chris pictured him - he looks like Browne in the "faires" , but his voice was supposed to be thin (?) .

I actually think he looks pretty good.

He, IMHO, should be skinny as he is. It's not like the Malfoys fed him really well or anything, right? And he did tend to scare Harry, not by being gruesome but by being jumpy and surprising. I don't think he looks jumpy. :) He could be cuter, if they wanted to, but the elves are supposed to have a pathetic feel to them, and if they're adorable then they'd be pets, not servants. :D

His voice is what bothers me. I think it's too deep, but it's also something I'll adjust to.

Now I'm just waiting for Bridget to jump in here screaming "pink! pink! he's pink!" :D

Well not Dobby's character... The film version I hate.

It's so icky, I imagined Dobby, as bottle green, with reptile skin, big grin, poiny ears, and big eyes, and slightly fatter, I can imagine him eating some cake, then hitting his head on a table...

His voice was WRONG. That voice is the voice of te devil! Infact, Dobby resembels satan... Reddish colour....

He looked exactly as Mrs. Grandpre had him drawn in the books. I always imagined him like that. The picture I saw of him on the poster made me angry.

i've always imagined Dobby to be shorter, teary-eyed, and with a high squeaky voice.
