View Full Version : Future Actors in the movies????

I heard that they asked Ewan MacGregor (sp???) to play Lupin in movie 3....Now, I can imagine him doing that!!! :)

Also, kind of off-topic but still *kind* of related, I heard that Elijah Wood would be playing the young Han Solo in Episode 3....I don't believe it, but that'd be cool!!!

Anywho, does anyone else know any rumours about who will be playing who?

Katia Elanor

Ewan would be a *great* Lupin! I hope he does! :D

Elijah Wood as Han Solo...hmmm...unlikely (since, I believe, the odds of Han appearing in Episode 3 to be about a million to one) but, hey, it might not be so bad. I mean, I sure as heck wouldn't mind seeing a movie that had both Ewan and Elijah. :D:D

Martin Kemp would be absolutely BRILLIANT as Sirius!

Fleurdelacour

Martin Kemp as Sirius would be brilliant. I've been saying him for years. With Eastenders behind him...

Or what about Alex Ferns as Lupin?

I was watching Johnny Vanughn Tonight on Monday, and Mark Williams from the Fast Show (veeerrry funny man!) was on it, and he said he's playing Mr Weasley...

Mark Williams as Mr Weasley... He's not the skinnest man in the world and he has hair...

Colli

Hayden Christensen is still playing Anakin. I seriously doubt Hans is 20 at that point. :( EW would make a really good Hans. And Ewan is still playing Obi Wan. :swoon:

And speaking of Ewan ;), yes, he'd make a fantastic Lupin.

ElfTBD

Now that would be cool for Ewan to play Lupin...although, honestly, since the prequels, it's hard for me to see him as anything other than obi-wan...*sigh at my brain*...I mean, I was watching Moulin rouge and all I could do was laugh when Ewan was on screen....

anyway...who do you think will play Peter?

Peregrinning Took
10-01-2002, 06:21 PM
Since I'm not British, I'm not really familiar with the British actors, but one person I think would do a really good job at playing WormtTAIL (Major duh...I typed "Wormtongue" *_* I think I've been reading LotR too much :o) would be John Hannah. Well, if he gained a little weight :D

Ohh...Ewan very cool...would so love him to be Lupin !!!

And I happen to like Renee Zelweger !!!

I'd like Jude Law to play Lupin, but Ewan would be just as good. I think Joseph Fiennes would make a good Sirius and Robert Carlyle a good Pettigrew.

I've heard many different opinions on who should play Sirius Black. Some of the suggestions are better than others, though I have yet to hear anything perfect (to me at least;) ) It be very important for Sirius to be good-looking, methinks (at least when he cleans up), as he along with Lupin are my fav. "adult" characters. (aka, the Ones I Swoon For:D )

Here are some of the suggestions I have heard around:

For Sirius Black:

Colin Firth (as Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice) :swoon:

http://orion.it.luc.edu/~avande1/firth2.jpg

Jason Carter ( I have no clue who he is or what he has been in)

http://www.jasoncarterfanclub.com/images/cons/futuresvoice/futuresvoice5.jpg

Hugh Jackman *drool*

(Though I must say he doesn't really have the emaciated look...hehe;) )

Michael Praed (gotta love the mullet ;))

Jeff Hordley.....(erm.....I dunno about him, yet I read somewhere that he had actually been considered for the part:eek: )

http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/images/2001/06/jeffhordley.jpg

That's all for now. (Please note that these are not necessarily my picks, just suggestions I have read online.:) )

So....who do you REALLY think should play Sirius?:D

Tell me about it.:D I've been on a Jane Austen movie kick all weekend. I just watched Pride and Prejudice a few nights ago, and.......mmmmmmm! I love this guy! (Though I don't know if he would make a good Sirius or not, but he is a great Darcy nonetheless!;) )

Here's more pics from the BBC's P&P:

Colin Firth would make for an interesting Sirius Black
Although I think Daniel Day-Lewis also looks good for the part---so long as he sticks to a haunted, emaciated look :)

As for Lupin, I'd go for any unknown actor who seems capable and wolfish.

and since we're in the subject, how about Ian McKellen for Mad Eye Moody eh? been watching my FOTR DVD and the Bag End scenes where he tells Frodo to get down reminds me of Moody's obsession with constant vigilance. :)

anyhow, just some thoughts

How could Ian McKellen be Moody?? He's supposed to be short n one legged.....hmmm......

Colin Firth looks darn good though......anyone saw him in 'The Importance of Being Earnest'??? He was great!

Peregrinning Took¬ R u sure about the Elijah Wood n Han Solo thingy?? That'll be waaaaay cool!! :D  Though the only role I'll forever remember him as is Frodo!! Imagine Frodo with a light saber.......

I don't recall Rowling specfically writing that Moody was short, and I expect the leg could be done with CGI. I was thinking of Tom Baker for Moody - but I wouldn't mind seeing him as the new Dumbledore, either (and spouse agrees on the latter) :)

I found this at IMDb:

Veteran British filmmaker and actor Richard Attenborough will never act again - unless he lands a role in the next Harry Potter film. The Oscar winning director of Gandhi is desperate to take on the role of Professor Albus Dumbledore, following Richard Harris' death in October, and is even prepared to break his vow of never appearing in front of camera again. However, the British Lord has not yet been approached for the part. He says, "Of course I'd love to play Dumbledore. But, I haven't been offered it." And asked if he is retiring from acting Attenborough says, "Yes. Unless you get me Dumbledore."

Hmmm.... This possibility had actually crossed my mind before.

Colli

:o Since I don't know any British actors (besides the obvious ones), I looked him up. :D

And I couldn't find a good picture...

I guess by the time whoever's chosen is in the getup, looks don't really matter.

It's the ability to appear like an uberwise, kindly old man with an extreme youthful side.. combined with the ability to show the anger of PoA against the dementors.

How old does everyone think Lupin should be?

I was re-reading PoA and it says Lupin is "quite young."

Of course, he's also supposed to be the same age as Snape. And as much as I love Alan Rickman, he is not what I'd call "quite young." (For that matter, neither is the James Potter in the mirror - who looks totally wrong.)

Elfëa
12-05-2002, 08:19 PM
But for wizards quite young may be more than to us, as they live longer :)

swiftsnowmane
12-05-2002, 08:20 PM
Yes, unfortunately that is one of the (many) problems I have with the movies. As much as I love Alan Rickman, he looks older than mid/late thirties (which is how old I imagine Harry's parents, etc would be). No offense to Graham Norton (I don't even know who he is)....but he does NOT look like my version of Lupin at all. Then again, I probably just imagine the characters to be much hotter than they are supposed to be.:D

This is kind of how I imagine Lupin:o :

I don't actually think Michael Vartan should play Lupin :p, but at least someone who looks like him!:D

Unfortunately Vartan's half American ;) and booked for a few years (hopefully).

JKR has said that Snape is early-mid thirties so therefore so are Sirius, James, Lily, Pettigrew etc. I imagine whoever's cast will be older than that.

LOL Fleur. I don't even want to imagine Graham Norton as Lupin. :D He's a great presenter, but so unlike cool, laid-back Remus. Michael Vartan's a much better match.

Peregrin - she writes Harry Potter fanfiction (top class) - if interested, can find it at schnoogle :)

Not like Secret Diaries- she has really created a world of her own (and no need to tell I'm totally obsessed... :o) Her last story is unfinished and I'm dreading for it's end... :( :D

Peregrinning Took, John Hannah would make a great Wormtail-he's so good at playing cowardly types. If they can't get him, Hugh Laurie or Richard E. Grant would be good. I always think of those three actors as being alike, if not in acting style, then looks.

swiftsnowmane, I was the one who suggested Colin Firth before the latest sever crash. I don't know why, but his name just seemed to come up when I thought of Sirius Black. Maybe because the wife and I had just watched Bridget Jones Diary and I thought he was properly intense enough to do the role justice.

The person I keep seeing as Mad-Eye Moody is a character actor named Jim Carter. I can't find a picture of him to save my life, but he's played these roles in these movies, if it helps:

102 Dalmatians- Detective Armstrong
The Little Vampire- Rookery
Shakespeare In Love- Ralph Bashford
Brassed Off-Harry
Richard III- Lord William Hastings
The Madness of King George- Fox
Black Beauty- John Manly
The Witches- Head Chef
Haunted Honeymoon- Montego
Rustler's Rhapsody- Blackie
Top Secret- Deja Vu

With the proper eye prosthetic, he'd be perfect! Look him up and see what you think.

Sirius Black
12-07-2002, 07:40 PM
John Hannah - yeah, great suggestion, didn't think about him... trouble is, I like him too much to believe him a baddie like Peter... But then, that would make him the perfect traitor?

Puleeze... Graham Norton, I absolutely adore his show (especially the tune), but he could just about pull off Lockhardt - and that's too late now. By the way, it's a pigment failure, not grey. If you want Lupin to be camp, try Stephen Fry :D

That first guy, snowmane, looks like some fanart painting of Sirius, not bad (if a bit too smooth), who is he?
Acting-wise I would suggest Jonathan Rhys-Myers, if he wasn't far too young. Robert Carlyle would be good for the non-reading movie folk, everyone would believe him the baddie!

I also enjoyed Judi Dench in The Importance of Being Ernest. I haven't seen her in anything I didn't like. Loved her as "M". Loved her in As Time Goes By. Loved her in Kenneth Brannagh's Henry V.

I know many people have suggested Christopher Lee and Ian McKellen for Dumbledore. I would like to suggest Derek Jacobi. I think he has the ablility to become Dumbledore.

Sirius Black

I really want to see Ewan McGregor as Lupin, but I'm still not sure about who I'd like to see play Sirius. Michael Pread just isn't how I imagine Sirius to look like, but I guess he might look the part once you have all the make-up (and he looks more gaunt).

I hadn't really thought of Judi Dench as Aunt Marge, I guess she could be pretty good as her, but I'm not entirely convinced still.

Colli
12-09-2002, 05:38 PM
:D Yes, Amb, but they slipped in a few Americans while no one was looking. ;)

The Sorcerer's Stone
Author J.K. Rowling insisted that the principal cast be British and she got her wish, with two exceptions - Richard Harris was, of course, Irish, and Zoe Wanamaker [I believe she plays Madame Hooch], though she has made her name as a "British" actress, is actually a US citizen. Other non-Brits in the cast include Verne Troyer, born in Michigan, USA, who plays Griphook (the second Goblin in Gringots' Bank) and Christopher Columbus' daughter, Eleanor, who played Susan Bones.

SB, there was an SNL skit where Sir Ian dressed up like Maggie Smith... and "she" went on a little tirade about Judy Dench. :D

I personally would hate to see her as Aunt Marge, I imagine Marge fatter.... because it shows she's "healthy". ;)

I could totally play Hermione if I wanted to, if she was eighteen. The only problem: is my hair TOO big? Wanna know how big I can make it? Picture Christina A. in the Moulin Rouge video...
Someone also told me I'd make a good Patil twin (when my hair's straight, of course!) but then again, the age problem...
Maybe in the fourth book I could play Narcissa Malfoy. Then I could hang around Lucius and feel cool. But then, there is that omnipresent age problem...too young...maybe they could age me, though. Too bad they can't DE-AGE me. I'd love to be young again and go about loving HP shame-free. :D

I first saw Derek Jacobi in The Pallisers in the '70's . He was the lead in I Claudius and did my favorite Hamlet. He was a fellow classmate of Ian McKellen at Cambridge. He was a mentor to Kenneth Brannagh and appeared in HenryV and Dead Again. Recently he was in Gladiator. Other roles are too numerous to mention. He has also been knighted.

Since very few know about him, it highlights the fact that he is able to disapear into a character, thus my feeling that he would make a wonderful Dumbledore.

Oh man, Michael Palin and John Cleese together on the Harry Potter movie set. I'd love to be a fly on the wall if that ever happened. :) But I think the casting people will go for someone a little older and less jovial-relax, I'm not saying Dumbledore can't be jovial or have a twinkle in his eye-it's just that as I've said before, the tone of the books gets more serious as they go on and I think they need someone who won't make you want to crack up by just looking at him. Michael Palin does that for me-he's probably my favorite Python and can crack me up even when he's not trying to be funny!

Oh man, Michael Palin and John Cleese together on the Harry Potter movie set.
I always forget John Cleese is in the movies until I see him floating past in a scene.
I want to know what on earth happened with Rik Mayall. Peeves was supposed to be in the movie this time round.
I'd love to be a fly on the wall if that ever happened. But I think the casting people will go for someone a little older and less jovial.
I think the problem with Richard Harris was (no disrespect intended) that he wasn't quite jovial enough. He didn't really portray Dumbledore's apparent absent-mindedness and subtle humour. I just don't think his heart was in the project.
Haven't seen it, but a quick Google search turns out that you seem to be talking about Ralph Fiennes?
Ralph Fiennes was the one with the tattoo in Red Dragon. I want his brother, Joseph, to play Sirius. I think Ralph would make a good Remus.

Remus and Sirius played by brothers? How cool. Doesn't necessarily have to be the Fiennes-brothers, though. ;) But would be very cool for the shrieking-shack-scene.

I do agree about Harris. Might have been the script though. Subtle humor doesn't seem to feature in these productions. That's why every funny dialogue between the Weasley twins was written out for the benefit of Seamus turning fruit into Whiskey.

Fleurdelacour

I know this has nothing to do with Sirius and Lupin , but I heard somewhere that Ian McKellen was being considered for the part of Dumbledore! I'm not sure how I feel about that, I think he would do a wonderful job, but Gandalf and Dumbledore?

I think that most of the guys mentioned to play the parts of Sirius and Lupin look too young. All of the other people we have seen from James and Lily's year look a bit older than they are in the the book. Whoever they pick has to be hot though, because I could not stand it if I was in love with Snape and Malfoy (Lucius, of course, not Draco), and Tom Riddle and there was not at least one good guy to crush on. I was so proud of myself, becuse in the books I did not like Lucius at all (I usually like bad guys, it's my bane) But after I saw that first picture of Jason Issacs w/ that long blonde hair...:swoon:... Regarding last Friday's report in the London Sun that Ian McKellen has agreed to play Dumbledore in the next Harry Potter film, a message posted Monday on McKellen's website says: "Ian McKellen has NOT agreed to succeed the late Richard Harris in the role of Dumbledore in the Harry Potter movies. He has expressed interest in perhaps playing a different role some time in the future of the series."

So who do you think he wants to play? Or maybe someone from the later books...

Pilgrim Grey

IMO Ian McKellan wouldn't make a good Mad-Eye Moody. I've always pictured him - this is going to sound weird, but bear with me - as looking like I. Cheese from the computer game Escape From Monkey Island... here's a pic...

Gary Oldman news! (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hollywoodreporter/film/brief_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1789640)
Jan. 08, 2003

Gary Oldman is in negotiations to join the cast of Warner Bros. Pictures' "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" for director Alfonso Cuaron. The third installment of the studio's franchise based on author J.K. Rowling's book series will begin production Feb. 17. Oldman would play wizard Sirius Black, the escaped prisoner of Azkaban who is later revealed to be Harry Potter's godfather. Adapted by Steven Kloves, "Azkaban" is being produced by Chris Columbus, David Heyman and Mark Radcliffe. Michael Barnathan and Callum McDougall are executive producing. Oldman, repped by CAA, ICM London and manager Douglas Urbanski, will next star in a trio of indie features: "Sin," opposite Ving Rhames, "Tiptoes" with Kate Beckinsale and "Interstate 60." Muggle Informer 14th January 2003 -

Insiders say Irish comic Graham Norton is signing up to play werewolf Remus Lupin in the third film of the Harry Potter series. Norton's past acting experience has included Irish comedy Father Ted.

Other insiders, say Viggo Mortesensen, Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings trilogy is set to play the rugged Sirius Black, however, rumour also has it Ralph Fiennes is set to play Black.

Ages ago at HP Galleries Christian Bale was rumoured to be playing Remus. Recently I heard from somewhere that he was a possibility to play Sirius. Yes, I'm not sure of his acting skills (yet another Brit actor I've never heard of) but he looks just right. :D

Somehow, I just realized that Anderson Cooper is EXACTLY how I pictured Lupin. Go figure. :D

The Anderson Cooper "bloke" ;) was the host of the first two seasons of The Mole, and he used to be a news correspondent for ABC.

But he's American, he's safe. :p

And Pam Ferris will do well as Aunt Marge.

*mutters*that's what they get when they limit themselves to British cast*mutters*

swifty, no offense taken. I was just really surprised when I saw the picture of Thewlis because he reminded me of Anderson Cooper.. and then it struck me that that's hwo I had imagined Lupin all along... except maybe a little more wizard-ish. :D

In the first season of the mole, Anderson had this.. eccentric, almost evil quality to him. Nevermind. :D

I nearly choked when I saw Alan Rickman as Snape. That was NOT my Snape! Not at all! Of course, my opinion has changed since then.. ;)

About the Ian Brown rumor, he's supposed to be going for a VERY small role. Perhaps Stan, from the Knight Bus?

Elfëa

So who's left uncast?
I'm really confused with all these rumours and people going around...

who are cast offically?

Colli
01-17-2003, 11:30 AM
Harry Potter ....... Daniel Radcliffe
Ron Weasley ........ Rupert Grint
Hermione Granger ....... Emma Watson
Rubeus Hagrid ....... Robbie Coltrane
Oliver Wood ....... Sean Biggerstaff
Severus Snape ....... Alan Rickman
Draco Malfoy ....... Tom Felton

Those are OFFICIAL. The next few are very SOLID rumors, like, confirmed by those actors' agents. I think technically they're still in negotiations, but the parts have been offered.

Sirius Black ....... Gary Oldman
Albus Dumbledore ....... Michael Gambon
Remus Lupin ....... David Thewlis
Peter Pettigrew ....... Timothy Spall

The rest are mere rumor:

Aunt Marge ....... Pam Ferris
*someone* ....... Ian Brown

And I think it's safe to say that the general cast from movies one and two will be returning... i.e. the kids, the professors, the Dursleys.

(edit) *snickers* What about Stephen Tyler for Mad-Eye Moody? :p :D

Fleurdelacour

swiftsnowmane
01-18-2003, 03:25 PM
I'm pretty sure that Rowling wrote that the Marauders and Snape are supposed to be in their mid (to late?) thirties. When Harry, Ron, and Hermione see Lupin on the Hogwarts Express for the first time, I think they even describe him as looking fairly young, depite his gray speckled hair.:)

Edit: Nothing's wrong with being old, Monkfish. I swoon for older people sometimes! I'm just afraid that they will cast someone ugly as Sirius and Lupin, and in that case being old will not help.;) I just want to swoon for them all, dang it!:D

Elfëa
01-18-2003, 03:51 PM
Okay.

So Alan Rickman is little too old looking, but then again I know people in their mid-thirties who have had gray hair for 10 years! And that's true! Some people get older faster than others... and Snape sure has got his share of danger in his life...

I'd quite say they all are allowed to look older than their age... :p

swiftsnowmane
01-18-2003, 04:04 PM
Well.....I guess. But even with all that I still didn't imagine either of them looking like 50 year olds. All well. :( *whimpers* I really really want to be able to swoon for the movie characters. amrael

And besides, once you've got Rickman who looks 50 (a very delectable 50, though ;) ) you must have somebody who looks like being his contemporary. You can't have a 50 year old man arguing with two guys in their thirties about their time at school. It would look quite weird. Better make all of them be older.

glaelia

from Dark Horizons (a movie news site) (www.darkhorizons.com):
Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban: Gary Oldman as Sirius Black, Timothy Spall as Peter Pettigrew, and now the final of the three most important new characters in the third "Harry Potter" movie appears to have been chosen. The Mirror reports that actor David Thewlis, best known for pashing Leo DiCapro in "Total Eclipse" or fighting off the two nutbags that are Val Kilmer & Marlon Brando in "The Island of Dr. Moreau" has landed the role of Remis Lupin, the new Defence Against The Dark Arts teacher with his own dark secret. "David is thrilled. He and Anna [Friel, his wife] are massive Harry Potter fans" says one source. Thanks to 'Lady Anakin'

From the Leaky Cauldron (http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org):

Reader LD pointed out that according to an interview he just did on "Today With Des & Mel" on ITV1 and his Web site, UK comedian and double bass player Jim Tavaré will be playing the role of Tom, bartender of The Leaky Cauldron:
For fans of Harry Potter I have landed a small role in the third movie The Prisoner Of Azkaban. I play Tom who works at The Leaky Cauldron. I didn't know much about Harry Potter until I researched the character on the various HP websites. Apparently he resembles a wizened toothless walnut.

You don't think Gary Oldman is :swoon: ? I'm coming round to the idea, even though he is different from what I imagined Sirius to look like. I'm pretty sure he can play the part, my only concern is in not seeing his other roles in his portrayal of Black. Same thing with Thewlis, except the only things I've seen him in I forget (was he in Braveheart?), sorta like how David Wenham was in Moulin Rouge:eek:

One thing that I'm glad for is that Ewan McGregor is not playing Lupin. Personally, I think he's wrong for the part, though :o in other roles. I don't think of Lupin or Sirius as seriously hot guys, as in face-on-GQ/one-look-and-your-done-for, but as people whose personality would make them swoon-worthy. Make sense?

I must agree, making the next two films without professor Trelawny would be a travesty. Hopefully by some chance they dont have information on the actress who will portray her. Yet there will be a Trelawny ::let us cross our fingers::

If they cut her character, almost 45% of the comical dialogue would have been cut.

I hope they dont leave anyone out this time around.

On Friday, Warner Brothers said that Michael Gambon will take over the role of Professor Dumbledore, after Richard Harris sadly died following a battle with cancer.

Gary Oldman will be Sirius Black
As widely rumoured, the key role of Sirius Black will be played by Gary Oldman.

And Timothy Spall will bringing Peter Pettigrew to life.

All three are well-known British actors who've starred in many films and TV shows.

They join David Thewlis - confirmed as Remus Lupin in January - and Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson from the first two films.

What about Cho Chang?

Fast Show fave Paul Whitehouse has scooped a minor role too. He plays a knight from one of the paintings Sir Cadogan.

At the moment there is no news on Cho Chang, but some other Hogwarts students have been cast and will be revealed soon.

Pre-production filming has already started
And all these new cast members will be on the set soon, with filming starting for real on Monday 24 February.

As we've already reported, the film crew have been working on pre-production filming, getting special bits and pieces underway.

But on Monday what's called 'principal photography' starts, involving the major members of the cast.

And we'll keep you updated on filming with news and exclusives, so don't forget to keep coming back here to check it out!

:notworthy <----- to cast people....

i found this link... don't know how good the stuff is... i'm at work and have no sound :(

the fast show (http://freespace.virgin.net/mike.spezzano/)

scroll down to 'other characters' and click on '"Suit you sir!" "Hello sir!" "Puppy - suit u sir!" "Oooh!" .... ie, paul whitehouse and mark williams in their most famous characters

EDIT --- AGAIN....

The Suit You Tailors

Two of The Fast Show's most enduring characters, the Suit You tailors, Ken and Kenneth, spawned a generation of people who can't pass a certain high street menswear retailer without a smirk.
The sex-obsessed pair sidle up to customers and then unleash a torrent of filthy suggestions about their client's personal life.

'Were you with a lady last night sir? Did she want it sir? Ooh, suit you!'

The Fast Show's most famous fan, Johnny Depp, appeared with the Kenneths in The Last Fast Show Ever. He played a bewildered American who is thoroughly quizzed about his sexual antics since arriving in the country. Surrounded on both sides by excited tailors, Johnny 'ooh'-ed along like a trouper.

OOO!!!! :( ok so this is a little off topic for FUTURE actors...but its more "once possible" actors....anyway...i just found out that Tim Roth Was considered for the role of Severus Snape in 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone', but dropped out to star in the re-make of Planet of the Apes (2001). The role was then given to Alan Rickman. ARG!!!!!!!!! That just makes me mad :( why would he turn something like that down?Tim Roth is AWESOME (for those of you who don't know him...his filmography is here http://us.imdb.com/Name?Roth,%20Tim pick a movie...any movie...go rent it and watch it.....NOW GO GO GO...you're not GOING fast enough!!) anyway. It's almost like when someone asks you if you had a choice would you be a super hero:angel: or a arch villian:devil:? Your choice differs by who is on what side. Malfoy-evil. Harry-good. Tough decision.

Elfëa
02-24-2003, 01:35 PM
Oh - but there is no such thing as hero!Harry and evil!Malfoy in the books - not when I'm interpreting it anyway.

They are both kids, with possibilities for both good and evil - as most people have, for all their lives.
They have not yet made all their choices, and hopefully, as it is in real life, our choices don't always affect the outcome, there is no separation to good and evil.

There might be a moral in life, but whose moral is it? ;)

And I just realised this isn't the lit forum :(

ChianaWeasley

I guess your right in that sense.

This is running into another topic, but do you think Malfoy may become good by the end of the seven books? Just wondering i'd like to hear peoples ideas on who will be "good" and "evil" at the end.

And for Elfea I use those terms in "" but it's just a question that ive been thinking about. Will Malfoy see the darkness of his ways and change?

Rosie, casting Oded would have been a crime in itself, cause makeup would have to take a backseat to CGI.....they'd need computers just to make him look haggard and gaunt! Oded could never look anything other than gorgeous.

And I just found out why Zoe Wannamaker wasn't in CoS! They cut her? Will she be in PoA? I hope so. She's a wonderful actress. And they had better leave in Quidditach. Both matches were integral to the story!

I guess there'll be a whole lot of Lupin! And hopefully Sirius. And maybe they will put in Hogsmeade. That would be good. sirius2004
03-08-2003, 03:24 PM
They're not...at least...that's what i heard. I heard (forget where...) that they're going to break GoF into at least 2 movies. that'd be AWESOME!!! I think it would also be a good idea if maybe they did the first 1/2 of the movie as one movie...then the second half as another (Duh? isn't that what i JUST said...srry...welcome to the department of reduncdancy department...srry about that) but they released them at the same time....but as two seperate movies. That way....u could go see the first 1/2 one day...then maybe the next weekend (next day...next hour...pick one) you could see the second 1/2. that would also give time for bathroom breaks, more popcorn/soda/candy/whatever it is u eat/drink in movies etc. anyways...just my two cents!!

Whoo, that would be extremely odd. Filming and releasing two parts of a movie at the same time. I just don't know. It's never been done. I mean you've either got to cut massive parts out or release a whole film to make any money. I'm sorry to say it, but I'm leaning toward massive cuts. Yup, can just see HP running from task to task to task. Blah. I sooo wanted to see dragons, merpeople and the maze. And who will they ever get to play Moody? That will be interesting.

Yeah. Moody's cool. They could keep all the tournament, and turn it into a tri-athelon (sp?). They could even keep the egg scenes (cuz they're good:D) that way. Hm. I'm forgetting some of the other things in book 4. I should know this, I'm currently reading it. Oh, well, brain's on the fritz right now.

On the Oliver not being there

Isn't he leaving Hogwarts anyway.
He was Captain of Quidditch in Harry's first year, so would surely be in his last 2 years at least when Harry arrives.

Not having him in PofA makes sense from this point of view

Sean B said "Don't worry.. I'll be back" or something to that effect, but in HP? I don't really think so. In GoF they'll be making cuts right and left and Oliver really only has a few lines in it anyway.. and unless Rowling has some crazy plan to bring him back in OotP....

So they really HAVE cut out Sean Biggerstaff in PoA? Well, he can't be in the next movie, he was in his last year in PoA! Unless.... could he come back as a Quidditch teacher in OoTP? After all, I think Zoe Wannamaker is gone (sorry about that!). Ooo, nice thought. Sean Biggerstaff a couple of years older..... Well, let's hope they make movie V!

Whoo, that would be extremely odd. Filming and releasing two parts of a movie at the same time. I just don't know. I don't know if it's still the plan, but at the time the first movie was released WB were thinking about releasing GoF in two parts; one at Thanksgiving and one at Christmas. I've no idea how they were planning on cutting it in half, though.

We need to start thinking about casting for the 4th one! I'm just gonna make a list off the top of my head of new characters, so post your favs for them:

Moody
Crouch Jr.
Crouch Sr.
Karkaroff
Madame Maxine
Ludo Bagman
Archie :D (wizard at the water spout wearing women's pjs)
Cedric Diggory
Fleur Delacour
Viktor Krum
Rita Skeeter
Narcissa Malfoy
Bill Weasley
Charlie Weasley (scary to think we've only known those two for two books...)

I know I'm forgetting (quite) a few, but oh well.

I'll have to do my list later, don't have time to go searching through my memory.

You do know Moody's already been cast, don't you? It's Brendan Gleason. Those of you who have seen Troy will have seen him as Menelaus, husband of Helen of Troy.

So's Madam Maxime - Frances de la Tour. She's not really my idea of MM physically, but I'm always prepared to be won over by the performances. Personally, I think she'd have been a brilliant Rita Skeeter

Kate Winslet in an interview said she'd like to play Fleur Delacour - but I'm afraid she's definitely too old for that.

I haven't read all the thread, but if I could jump forward to HP5 - I'd like to put in a bid for Prunella Scales as Professor Umbridge! Hem hem!

They've cast Cedric, a mighty looking lad if I do say so myself ;)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/images/40258000/jpg/_40258301_cedric150.jpg

His name is Robert Pattinson, and is rather sporty in real life too.

Prunella Scales... Tesco ad mother, and Sybil Fawlty! And get John Cleese back into Nearly Headless Nick! :D Yes, I suppose she woud be good, she does have that annoying voice :p

http://www.ananova.com/images/web/58281.jpg

I want Patrica Routledge to play umbridge though, she too has that annoying voice, and is all floral (well she was in Keeping Up Apperances anyway)

http://www.stuart.cann.freeuk.com/patricia.htm

I suppose that Clemence Poesy girl looks a bit Fleur-like... Makes me wish I actually watched Gunpowder, Treason and Plot...

ChianaWeasley
06-16-2004, 03:48 PM
That looks as if he'll do well as Cedric
I'm not so sure about Routledge as Umbridge....she's not quite large enough, and she looks as if she could have a kind side. Umbridge, definatley, has no connection to a kind side.

I am glad Kate winslet isn't playing Fluer, that really would be pushing the age barrier. Even though the actress who played Moaning Myrtle is easily in her mid-twenties...

I always pictured Madame Maxine to be portrayed by the actress who is infamous for the "Trudgeble" in Matilda

Peregrinning Took
06-16-2004, 03:59 PM
Ah, yes, I didn't know they've already casted a bunch. :o

Moody - Brendan Gleeson
Madame Maxine - Frances de la Tour
Cedric Diggory - Robert Pattinson
Fleur Delacour - Clemence Poesy
Crouch Jr.
Crouch Sr.
Karkaroff
Ludo Bagman
Archie
Viktor Krum
Rita Skeeter
Narcissa Malfoy
Bill Weasley
Charlie Weasley

Any word on Krum? He's the only one of the Champions not cast....That announcement on the front page about the Bulgarian casting has been up for ages, you'd think we'd've heard something by now.

And I've decided that Johnny Depp should play Archie, just because I want to hear him say "I'm not putting them on....I like a healthy breeze 'round my privates, thanks."

Well, sort of. Stanislav Yanevski is Bulgarian-born, but presently lives in London.

:swoon: :swoon: for Robert Pattinson (Cedric). I was worried that the way Dan Radcliffe has been shaping up, they'd be hard pressed to find someone who could dwarf him in looks while still being young enough to carry off a student's part.

And it seems that Katie Leung, poor lass, will be playing Cho Chang, thus earning her the rather undeserved enmity of about half the population of the planet.

This is what cinescape.com said yesterday about the casting of the Quidditch players in GOF:

BBC Newsround is reporting that they know the name of the actress playing the female Tri-Wizard superstar we'll get to see in HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE.

According to the site, the part of Beauxbatons student Fleur Delacour will be played by Clemency Poesy, a 21-year-old French actress and relative newcomer to the world of English cinema.

Rounding out the remaining international group of Quidditch players are Robert Pattinson as Cedric Diggory and Stanislav Yanevski as Viktor Krum. None of these names have been officially confirmed by Warner Bros. yet but Newsround is pretty certain that these young actors have gotten the parts.

HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE is due out in November 2005.

So Fleurdelacour and PT, you appear to be spot-on about the first two. The guy playing Krum has a Russian-sounding name, so who knows. Sounds like things are proceeding quite quickly with GOF. And that's a good thing!

EDIT: Ah, MarySue, you must have posted right before me! Good catch there! :)

Madame Maxine - Frances de la Tour

Viktor Krum - Stanislav Yanevski
Cho Chang - Katie Leung
Crouch Sr.

Karkaroff

Narcissa Malfoy

(I forgot about Cho, because I was under the delusion that she was in the third one. :o Whoops.)

And although Leonardo Dicaprio is American, I think he should play Crouch Jr.

ChianaWeasley

DiCaprio would be excellent as Crouch Jr. mainly because noone over here is really a fan of his anymore, and I never really liked him that much. Besides, he's better at being evil (The Man In the Iron Mask), but I'm sure it will never come to be. It will be someone british, they'll find the perfect person. :)

It would be dreadful if the girl who was cast as Cho, was cast before the fifth book was released. Just imagine, being all excited that you're playing Harry's love interest, and then you read OoTP. I would just cry. LOL. Poor girl...

Speaking of which.

The FX team has admitted that they'd like to redo Firenze. The SS movie version just didn't match the books at all, and as of HP5 that's going to matter.

They'll need to find someone who, with appropriate costume, makeup and effects, could portray Firenze as described:

- British
- gorgeous
- long blond hair
- astonishing blue eyes
- prone to making poetic sexy-sounding statements that provide little useful information
- seeing as he's a centaur, it will probably be revealed in HP6 or HP7 that he's dead good with a bow and arrow.

Palamino horse body + naked top half of Orlando Bloom = more :swoon: -age than is probably legal.

Tiger Louie

They need to be looking for red-haired actors to play Bill and Charlie.

They have a penchant for casting british comics... so how about Avid Merrion? He'd have to be Charlie as I don't think he could do 'cool' the way Bill is described in the book somehow.

lithorose
06-17-2004, 05:37 AM
I hope they never cast Bill or Charlie. The reason is that I don't want the ones in my head to disappear. I couldn't take it.:p Well, I could almost handle Bill, but not Charlie. Because he's one of the few characters I think is really cool that I don't have a good mental picture of.

You know who I always picture Umbridge as? A sort of cross between Moaning Myrtle and the grandmother off the television series Dinosaurs.:barf:

Who knows but what the actress who plays Cho will redeem her in the eyes of many! But then, the hatred of Cho seems to be an irrational, fiercely held pastime in Fandom.

I don't remember Firenze described in that way... will definitely have to reread.;)

Rita Skeeter could probably be played by half the aging actresses in Hollywood. Just give them some bright, garish clothing that went out of fashion in the early nineties, and long acrylic nails.

PT, I could see Paul Bettany as one of the older Weasley brothers. I never imagined Brendan Gleeson as Mad-Eye Moody; it was always some actor who already looked halfway gnarly in the first place, and the addition of makeup would just enhance the look. But the movies and the actors have a way of making you think, "oh, yeah. Good choice after all!" And I'm a fan of Brendan's from way back, so I'm giving a big benefit of the doubt here. I never imagined Emma Thompson as Trelawney, yet she nailed it for me. But Rita Skeeter, I have no idea right now who would be perfect for that role. I'm going to scour my movie guides and the IMDB for actors that might fill that bill.
Part of me wants to jump ahead to book 5's filming and cast Bellatrix Lestrange, but I...mussst...ressssisssttt!!! Arrrgh!

And, just confirming MarySue's description of Firenze:

A centaur was standing over him, not Ronan or Bane; this one looked younger; he had white-blonde hair and a palomino body....He had astonishingly blue eyes, like pale sapphires.

How old are Bill and Charlie supposed to be, anyway?

lizz
06-17-2004, 04:05 PM
Bill and Charly should be early twenties, not a lot older than Percy although opinions on that matter differ :D

Colin is a fine actor, I have trouble seeing him blonde, bzt londe wigs can be quite intriguing ;)

I´d like Ewan McGregor as Bagman :)

Fleurdelacour
06-17-2004, 04:44 PM
:swoon: Colin Firth... Ewan McGregor....

But yes... Like lizz, I think he'd have trouble being a blonde bombshell...

Tiger Louie
06-17-2004, 04:47 PM
After much racking of brains - the person I thought of for Ludo Bagman is called Gordon Kennedy - I'm not sure if you'd describe him as a comic actor or a comedian. I think he'd be great. EDIT: there are 2 on IMDB. I'm thinking of the one they've put a (I) after his name.

Firenze - Jude Law would be pretty good - as would Paul Bettany, for that matter... EDIT: more suggestions for Firenze - again I've got a couple of Scots in mind: Douglas Henshall and Kevin McKidd.

If you wanted someone with amazing blue eyes (but would have to wear a wig) then Vincent Regan, who plays Eudoras (Achilles lieutenant) in Troy would definitely pass that test!

As regards Bill and Charlie - I've just re-read PoA - and it was 7 years since Gryffindor had won the Quidditch Cup since Charlie was Seeker on the team. If he left at 18 then he'd be about 26 when GoF takes place wouldn't he? Bill is a couple of years older so bobbing around late 20's. Older actors could do this, and let's face it, there aren't that many red-haired actors in total. One American actor who might be OK would be Alan Tudyk. If you've seen A Knights Tale with Heath Ledger - he's in that doing a pretty OK English accent.

ChianaWeasley
06-17-2004, 11:12 PM
I could see Gerard Butler as Sirius Black, he'd do just as well as Oldman, and alittle more around the right age frame for Sirius. Or perhaps, with a bit of Make-up he could be Moody. But he isn't quite the calibur of Moody...but I want to see him in the films! :o

He was excellent as Marek in Timeline

I have a couple more suggestions for the cast - some may only be familiar to Brits on the board:

Malcolm MacDowell for Barty Crouch Snr.

Marc Warren for Barty Crouch Jnr.

Hermione Norris for Narcissa Malfoy

Eddie Izzard for Rita Skeeter (no, I'm not joking - Rita sounds quite mannish the way she's described :D)

How about Jeremy Irons for Karkaroff?

ChianaWeasley
06-19-2004, 09:17 PM
Oh why couldn't I be British?! I'm the American left out of the loop! Curses!!!

Oh, well, on to Google!

MacDowell for Crouch...hmm...I have always seen someone well...larger for Crouch and much more uptight. I can see MacDowell playing out the 'I-have-made-sacrifices-to-be-minister' attitude, but it just doesn't quite seem to fit...

Not bad, not bad at all, exactly what I've pictured for little Crouch. I fully agree with that match. Warren would be perfect. Never seen him in a film though...

For Narcissa I see...a younger and blonde Angelica huston!
http://www.grandprospect.com/images/hollywoodimages/Angelicahouston.JPG
what do you think? She's a superb actress, she could pull off the "is there dung under my nose?" persona. :p

That's Eddie Izzard....wouldn't a cross dresser for Skeeter frighten a few young children? I know I'd make me a little nervous. NOTHING against cross dresses of course.

I think Irons would be a very good Crouch!

Fleurdelacour
06-19-2004, 09:31 PM
I can so see Eddie Izzard pulling off Rita Skeeter! :D

Ah yes... Hermione Norris... She has the nose! And I loved her in Cold Feet (ah how I miss it... James Nesbitt lives down my road though )

Ooh I see what you mean Chiana about Angelica Houston...

Oh Irons! Why didn't I think of him?! :p I could swoon:swoon:

Princess Aurora
06-20-2004, 08:25 PM
Well hellooooo Cedric! :D :swoon: Now that Sean Biggerstaff is gone (*cries*), it'll be nice to have another swoony character that's closer to my age. ;)

And Colin Firth TOTALLY should've been Sirius... oh what swoonage. And as a side-note, I saw a Friends rerun with Gary Oldman in it the other day... I'd forgotten it was him in that episode!

Also, I hope Paul Bettany gets cast either as one of the Weasley brothers or Crouch Jr. I think he'd be great. And actually, I thought of that actor without being able to remember his name, so I was glad to see that when someone posted the picture of him, that was who you were all talking about. :D

 What episode? What season?

And I saw a movie with David Thewlis today called Dragonheart. It was pretty silly. :p I hope they don't do the dragons in GoF like the dragon in that movie....I didn't recognize Thewlis for the longest time.

But you know, I've now seen the third movie three times, and I decided that I really like David Thewlis. At first I thought he was too old, but then I realized that being a werewolf would probably have more of a serious toll on your health (mental and physical) than JKR hints in the third book. And, after some thought, I've decided that his moustache kind of fits in with the kind of character he is, too, along with his neat sweater jacket :p

Hehe... it's the episode(s) with Monica and Chandler's wedding. Joey has a part in a World War I film, and his co-star is Richard Crosby (played by Gary Oldman) who is supposed to be a very well-revered Shakespearean actor. In one of his scenes, Oldman shows up for work hammered, which is quite amusing to see. :D

The ironic thing is, I believe Thewlis is the youngest of the actors playing "that generation" (Black, Snape, etc.) isn't he? :D

Their ages arent really mentioned in the book but the should all be in their early to midthireties. Sirirus of course much aged because of his imprisonment in Aszkaban and Lupin looking older because of him being a werewolf. Its funnybut the only one I really have an age issue about is James. he just looks too old in his fotos, like he is midthirties too.

I thought Moaning Myrtle was too obvious, since the actress is about thirty or mid twenties. But I think James and Lily do look too old, but maybe they....age in the photographs???

Sorry couldn't come up with anything better ;)

You know, JKR has some explaining to do with the photographs. I hope she does it in the next book.

After Percy left his family, I remember that Harry was looking at a picture of the Weasley family and noticing that Percy had appeared to walk out of it.

Then, when Moody shows Harry the picture of the original Order of the Phoenix, Harry's parents are sitting on either side of Wormtail!

Do the people in the pictures know what's going on now or what?

There's a thread around here somewhere about the photos if anyone has any more ideas.

And, back on topic, the actress who played Myrtle is 38!!!

Tiger Louie
06-22-2004, 04:21 AM
Yeah, Shirley Henderson, who plays Moaning Myrtle is no child!! Thing is, she has one of those faces which looks way younger than she actually is. She's quite small, so quite child-like in stature. Hope they don't re-cast for GoF, as she was very good indeed, I thought.

I put the ages of the actors playing the Marauders and Snape further back in this thread, after it had been pointed out that I can't count and being born in 1963 didn't make David Thewlis in his early thirties, rather his early 40s.

The photos are an interesting issue. Given that people seem to be able to move from painting to painting at Hogwarts, I sort of imagined that the same might be true for photos - but it does rather seem that people stay in their photos and the time the photos were taken. I can't imagine that Percy has ever seen eye-to-eye with any of his family except his doting mother, can you? I would imagine him forever leaving photos in a huff for one reason or another

I actually didn't have any idea that Moaning Myrtle wasn't a child until I saw her in Bridget Jones's Diary. And even then, it was only by her voice that I recognized her! :D

I didn't make the connection when I first saw CoS, but BJ'sD was on cable a week ago and I suddenly realised:

"Hey! I've heard that actress wailing piteously in a lavatory before, haven't I?"

Talk about typecasting...

MSM - I think they might avoid using Bloom for Firenze for the same reason they reconsidered asking Sir Ian MacKellan to take over as Dumbledore; it would seem too much like a reprise role, and they'll want the viewers to look a Firenze and think "This is Firenze", not "Oh look, it's Legopony".

Although he would look the part.

I recall a brief interview with Katie Leung, although I can't seem to find it now. She expressed great excitement at the prospect of playing Harry Potter's love interest, and gave the distinct impression that she hadn't yet read OotP, nor checked out the fansites. Be a bit of a shock wen she finds out, although I agree with lith that a sensitive portrayal of Cho could ameliorate the ill will that's been rather unfairly heaped on the character.

I think Cho's only fans right now are the slash writers, who see in her a rationale for Harry being turned off girls for life.

I think lithorose is also right about Rita - she just needs to be obnoxious and garish, and plenty of actresses could do that.

I'm much more intrigued by the notion of casting Bellatrix - that's going to be tricky. It would be easy to overact the part and come across as a campy villainess. I'm struggling to think of someone who could blend the evil, the fanatacism, the madness and just a touch of sexuality to create a Bellatrix that really inspires fear and hatred.

Juliet Landau is a little too young (possbly fixable with makeup), and although she lived and worked in the UK for four years she's American. I just wonder if she could do a Bellatrix that wasn't too clearly a copy of her performance as Drusilla.

Leung is going to have to put on one really good show, to redeem the love of the public for Cho. And if she pulls it off, well then, my sincerest congratualtions to her. Lol. But, if most people aren't really happy with Cho, such as me, they wont be easily swayed. I give her credit for taking a role, especially with the future her character holds.

It would be dreadful if she doesn't know. Please read the book my dear!!! :D Ouch, if she doesn't know...just ouch!

I read that too! Found it to be a riot!
And I loved how she posted her corrections for people's theories.

The idea that she would come and check to see what we think is neat, she gives a damn about her fans, which is rare these days. And it would be great if they actually took our ideas for the films!

Roger Lloyd-Pack is well known and loved here in Britain as the very dim Trigger in the long running comedy 'Only Fools and Horses'. He has done some film work but most of us know him from tv.

David Tennant has just appeared in a fantastic adaptation of Anthony Trollope's 'He Knew He Was Right' as a vacillating Vicar being fought over by two sisters. Very funny, and quite nice looking too.

Jeff Rawle is another actor best known for comedy performances - often playing put-upon characters.

None are how I imagined the characters physically, but I'm sure they'll be good.

ChianaWeasley

Poesy looks like she'll fit the part, and if they've been in theatre you know they'll do well.

Pattinson looks the part for Krum, but can he pull off the infamous "Herm-i-own-iny"???? ;) :p He's got the nose, so I'm pleased. Oddly enough, I wanna see him walk! Can he pull off the Victor Krum hobble?

No, I'm not picky....:p

(Pattison is Cedric)

I agree with Angelica Huston for either Narcissa (she really hasthe look ) or even better (more screen time) Bellatrix! She does evil quite well.

I'd love to see Damien Lewis :swoon: as a Weasley, but I think he may be too old.

Jeremy Irons would be very good as Crouch Sr. or Karkaroff, I think.

And if Book 6 is not out before Movie 5 (although it better be!), I think we might get a clue to Firenze's future importance by who they cast.

Yep - PJ is a past master at the old forced perspective, isn't he?

I wouldn't rule out the great Anjelica Houston on nationality grounds - she can definitely 'do accents', and there's already been one american in the films to my certain knowledge - even though she's far, far better known over here in the UK than anywhere else: Zoe Wanamaker, who plays Madame Hooch in HP1.

Anyway, I hope they would consider her - if she was interested. I think anyone would fall over themselves to play Bellatrix. So far, she has absolutely no redeeming features, which should be gravy to an actor!

Well, if Alan Rickman can play someone who's supposed to be 20-something years younger, I think Ralph Fiennes should be able to play someone who's supposed to be 20-something years older.

In fact, I would think it's easier to play older, especially since Voldemort will have so much makeup and such.

A question...

They've been quite strict about using only British cast, apart from foreign-born characters like Fleur and Viktor. Do you think they'd allow actors from elsewhere in the Commonwealth as well? There are some actors from Australia and New Zealand who I think would be very effective in certain roles, but I don't know if they'd be considered eligible.
